In this episode we look at doing a first time window clean, also this is a construction clean up so there is paint, cement and other debris to remove from the glass. I’ll show you what tools I use and how I make the windows look amazing!

Hi there. Just wanted to say thanks so much for your super informative videos. I’m a cleaner of all the things (commercial/residential) and fairly regularly have to deal with windows that have been through renovations. With your videos I think I’ll be able to get much better results with much less frustration. Many, many thanks from Canada 🇨🇦

Thanks Trad man. I love the way you try to make things as simple as possible. How would you go about cleaning up the window tracks and frames?
@TradMan
@TradMan 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, yeah got to keep it as simple as possible so for new folks they don't get too bogged down with info. For tracks it depends how bad it is. If the tracks are full then you'll need a hoover, if not to bad then just a damp clean cloth and a little soap to help. For frames I use a damp cloth usually and sometimes a bit of soap or Unger Rub out if there are stains

It’s mostly only high end builders that try to protect windows in the USA. 😊 Here in the USA we have low end, middle end and high end businesses. Regardless of what business it is. 😊
@TradMan

Yeah we do have some builders that will put a protective blue film over the glass but it's getting rare to see it, they just leave it to the window cleaner to fix lol

Is the bronze wool not dragging every thing all over the window. Why not razor it and then the wool or is it just preference?
@TradMan
@TradMan 5 жыл бұрын
If it's paint or cement then yeah I'll razor it but you'd be surprised how good bronze wool is for taking off stubborn dirt. 🤜🤛

How much extra would you charge for a builders clean given that its potentially going to take you a lot longer than a standard clean that you could be earning better from for you time eg x1.5 or x2 the normal rate
@TradMan
@TradMan 5 жыл бұрын
I charge by the hour, i give them a rough idea how long it would take but never an exact quotation as it always takes longer than you think lol. Charging by the hour means you don't loose out if it's a really hard job
@imsteveoneill
@imsteveoneill 5 жыл бұрын
@@TradMan yeah i get you did one a while back for a private one off house and it took me a lot longer and got stung cusi didn't charge them according and just on a normal window price. All the debris on the windows like you said silicone, heavy dust and cementy bits eate in to my time ....Lesson learnt
@TradMan
@TradMan 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah constriction clean up is normally very time consuming so an hourly rate means you can't loose :)

Which wool you are using? How to best get rid of cement and building sands?
@TradMan
@TradMan 4 жыл бұрын
It's bronze wool. If there's big bits of cement your better using a solution to remove it. For small bits you can use a razor or even the bronze wool but just depends on how much cement your up against

have you scratched glass before and do you ask your customers to sign a waiver
@TradMan
@TradMan 5 жыл бұрын
Not scratched anything yet but i try not to use the razor much. Getting a signature is not something done much here but I've never had an issue. I always say to customers that sometimes after cleaning, it may reveal damage from builders and that I'll let them know if i find anything. That way they know.

@@TradMan Great vid. Good advice! I've been blamed for pre-existing damage by careless tradesmen several times, but managed to get out of it. Telling them up front (before any water hits the glass) is a great idea. Thanks. P.S. How did you manage to break the Unger scraper? Led to believe they were virtually indestructible. I was about to buy one, should I reconsider?
@TradMan
@TradMan 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks buddy! Yeah there is a little plastic bit that sticks out so you can remove the blade, that's the bit i broke so the plastic plate the blade sits on just slides out now. As far as i know they don't make just the plastic plate on its own so have to buy a new razor. :(

Here in the U.S. the builders like to take off the film on the outside of the windows and then pour cement and splatter it all over the glass...makes it a real nightmare...that's why most window cleaners here wont do construction cleanup.
