I don't get the need to compare this to the Raptor or TRX. It's not supercharged, or widened. It never declared that it was a competitor. This is in the new category that the Tundra TRD Pro and Tremor are in; the highly capable full size pick up. GM will no doubt have a SC/Wide-body desert runner style truck, so you can buy your way into the sense you're actually physically strong and/or attractive. Yes, I do agree this is over priced, but it comes fully optioned. The only options were the technology package, the tiny sunroof, and the multi-flex tail gate. If you price out the TRD Pro and Tremor to similar specs that the ZR2 has standard they both are almost at $70,000. Plus neither of them have advanced DSSV shock, true front lockers and both have sad sounding engine notes.
@Inferno45
@Inferno45 2 жыл бұрын
The Tremor competes with the trail-boss not this. The zr2 is supposed to be a direct competitor to the raptor and trx but it is missing the power and wide-body stance. I believe that gm did this to create a mid range off-road truck segment to fit between the trail-boss and the future full raptor competitor that will come out later.

The front locker option is great and the market for the TRX and Raptor for necessity is realistically far smaller than what the road shows. I see a ton of TRX and Raptors everywhere. Most need a TRD, Rebel or Tremor at best. So with this, Chevy already has their trail boss ZR2 which is a good competitor in that segment already. So Chevy should have reached for that next category and gone with a wide body truck that would compete more with that. But chevy...

To be fair, the ZR2 is basically a loaded High County. The Raptor that starts around $2000 more is an XLT. ZR2 is a well rounded truck. Show me all the Raptor and TRX owners.. or even just Jeep owners that use their trucks offroad and to their full potential. It's all just bragging in your driveway about what.your truck *could* do. Ask any average jeep owner about the sway bar disconnect and they'll think you're a crazy person. ZR2 DSSV suspension is great offroad like TRX Bilstein and Raptor Fox branded, but way better on road than the other two. If you want a Raptor with similar appointments you're $10,000 more than ZR2. That $10,000 is the factory pre-runner. ZR2 is actually way cheaper. The honest critique about ZR2 is it would've been nice if they offered a less luxury version. ZR2 is a well rounded truck that is capable and more practical.

Perfectly said. This a Trail Boss with fancy shocks and a front locker. The Raptor’s frame and suspension is completely different from an ordinary F-150. This truck is a Tremor competitor not a Raptor. This truck can tow just like a regular Silverado because it’s a regular Silverado. The Raptor sacrificed some of its hauling and towing capabilities so you could jump it. I wouldn’t follow a Raptor or TRX on a jump in the ZR2. The Raptor's engine isn't exclusive to that truck as well. It's used in other F-150s, albeit with less power, it's used in the Lincoln Navigator with the exact same power numbers, it's used in the Ford Expedition as well. As for the TRX, it's the same thing. The supercharged 6.2 V8 is used in the Charger, Challenger, Durango Hellcats and the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. So it's not exclusive to that truck either. It's generally cheaper to use an existing engine with a different tune for a special edition car/truck than to develop a new one from scratch for just one vehicle. Especially now that car companies are struggling to produce and sell new vehicles and make profits.

Yeah, as a Chevy fan I can say they are out of touch with what their enthusiast consumers wants. They are only about appeasing the soccer mom segments right now. I actually just traded my 2017 Camaro 2SS for a truck and I went with Ram, Chevy's interiors were just pitiful (until this new 2022 update). They have no off roading SUV like Ford or Jeep, they have no enthusiast truck like the TRX or Raptor. They are starting to feel like the early 2000s Nissan era, killing anything interesting they have, being late to or scared of committing to every segment that the other 2 jump in and take over. It's sad really.

Flexes better than a Bronco :). I want one! There were issues with those rear lower shock mounts and shock damage on the ZR2's. The multimatic shocks on the CO ZR2 were like $1k ea so if you damaged one it wasn't worth replacing it with another multimatic. Chevy needs to figure out how to move those more outboard toward the wheels. Not ready to trade my '20 Rubicon for one and if I did, a Powerwagon would prob be more in my wheelhouse for another truck (owned a 2016 Powerwagon). And Andre's right, if it started around $60k it would be a much better deal.

Curious to see what the markup prices at dealers will be. Average price of a Trx where I live is 100k. Same with raptors, and yet they sell them as soon as they hit the lot. I somehow don’t see the Zr2 being anywhere near as popular as the other two, so hopefully that will keep the price more reasonable.

Would be interested to see how this compares to raptor and trx in REAL WORLD off roading. I think they could've rearranged the furniture WRT to standard equipment to undercut the others more in price. This same suspension and lockers on the new standard box reg cab would give Chevy a pseudo Wrangler that's 1.5" shorter in length and wheelbase than Colorado, and weighing in at 1000lbs lighter and 22" shorter with 19" shorter WB than Raptor.

The problem with any vehicle running independent suspension is that it doesn't articulate. You have droop and compression, but the wheels tilt relative to the body. The only way it can be called articulation is if the wheels tilt separately from the body, and that only happens with straight axles. That's also why vehicles with independent suspension are very unstable in situations that require a lot of articulation: If the body changes angle, the wheels do too. This means that even a slight amount of body roll can cause any wheel suspended independently to suddenly lose its grip. That's extremely bad in all off-road situations.

It is crazy to think people will spend $70k, $80k, $90k on a truck and then go smash it into rocks, pinstripe it against stickers and trees, flood it up to the hood in river crossings, sling mud all over the interiors, and go 4wheeling through saltwater infused sand. I spent just under $60k on mine and still have flashbacks of the pinstripes down the passenger side, or the small kisses on the lower passenger side of the paint matched front bumper from a rock... or the numerous times I've rubbed the roof on the clearance marker bars for parking garages.

What is that camouflaged truck at the 6:00 mark..HD maybe?? 33" tires are not enough, 35" or minimum 34" are needed from the factory for this ZR2 and the AT4X. I don't think that it is worth the 13k over the base LT Trailboss for e lockers and shocks. I will say, I think GM finally built a true (everyday driver) off road truck, those Ranchos should have been gone a loong time ago from the z71 package.
