You’re right about new cars dating quickly with the electronics. I think that’s at least partially on purpose. That’s similar to the late 50s where designers were changing cars styling every year to help make 2 year old models look dated. The person who buys a $100K or $200K Range Rover is going to going to lease it and get a new car in 2 years. The used value will plummet as a result. And Range Rover doesn’t really care if their car doesn’t last more than a few years. It’s kind of sad, but that’s the world.

Enjoyed your review and off roading. BMW has made some great naturally aspirated inline 6 engines. I have the 2002, E46, 330ic, beautiful engine.

I agree I think it would be smart to offer a utility model with a base fuel injected engine and straight axles with a coil over suspension. I think if the price could be 30k they ould thousands of them.

Fred, you should get little pink Squatch stickers and put them on every vehicle you’re in. Like 2” or smaller. And HIDE them in a spot folks won’t find it until a LONG time later.

No Fred, the V8 engine is actually a Jaguar engine and it was Jaguar who blocked of the V8 to make a V6 engine for the smaller F-type series cars. So the supercharged V6 & V8 engines are the same as in Jaguar F-series cars. And the first Range Rover was born 1970. Also hare in Europe the Range Rovers are actually being used as farm trucks.

range rovers were not luxury vehicals at the start they were bigger and had ok road manners so could b driven into town ,they still had rubber matts ect so could b hosed out . the old v6 was done that way to avoid having to pay to go through more safty testing as the v8 block had already gone through it all.

A straight six for the first time? Oh no, the 2nd gen p38 Range Rover was available with a 2.5 straight six diesel from bmw from 1994 to 2002.

gm did that with the 4.3l v6 it has the same bore and stroke as a 350 sbc v8 but its missing 2 cylinders they are great engines in my opinion

There is a car hoarder close to me who has several derelict cars on his abandoned farm property. He has an old series 2 Land Rover that has been sitting there for longer than I can remember. I would really love to rescue it, but he is rather ornery and violent whenever someone asks about any of his cars.

inline 6 engines are inherently balanced.... good choice for a luxury vehicle. great review Fred!..... looks on par with Lexus LX600, it's meant for luxury cruise up to the ski lodge, etc..... not a 'serious" off roader, but that's why Jeeps and 4runners exist.... so many years ago Toyota had the Supercharged Previa, it used a supercharger that was computer controlled and could switch "on and off" as it had a clutch on the front of it. when you needed a power boost it would engage the supercharger- made a big difference in power on the bottom end, if that same engine could have had a turbo to keep the boost up on the high end i think that would have been spectacular.

@@Queensizemusic where we go off roading, both the Lexus and the land rover would get destroyed in the first 500 feet. if you're curious, look up "gatekeeper on the Rubicon Trail"..... that's the easy stuff. so from my perspective, the Rover is a fine vehicle, just has it's place in life. FWIW: the Land Cruiser 300 was discontinued in the US... the Lexus LX 600 is the big brother to the Toyota Sequioa. there is a new Land Cruiser out in the US for 2024, but it is now a different vehicle.

The auto level and air bags fail around 30-40k miles and the older v8 were always blowing head gaskets.
