Americans get a lot of criticism from around the world, and we in the US are certainly not perfect. Some of the criticisms we deserve and some we do not. While we deeply appreciate our allies who help us--not so much who don't or don't contribute their fair share. We do make good aircraft and have been the leaders in both fighter and stealth aircraft for a long time. The EU consortium has built great aircraft for their time, but haven't kept up with technology development for 5th and 6th generation aircraft. The EU is only now panicing that NATO countries will buy the F-35 and cripple the EU fighter production. Well, duh! The EU is only 20 years behind time in developing stealth. They are fighting hard against buying the F-35 and instead urging NATO to wait 20 years until they get around to developing a stealth fighter. They built great planes for their time but failed to invest the hundreds of billions of dollars to develop a 5th generation fighter. But I also criticize my own country for not also developing the stealth support aircraft needed. Our AWACS, tankers, and other critically important support aircraft have been totally ignnored. If the enemy takes them out, we will be burned toast. Personally, I'm stunned that we do not have a stealth tanker, AWACS, etc. program. They are our weakest link in a major war with China or Russia. China's so called stealth fighter is not a competitor. It lights up on radar almost like a normal aircraft. But China will eventually figure out how to make the right stealth coating. But by then, we will be another 10-20 years ahead of them in the technology. Russia has a decent stealth fighter, but doesn't have anywhere near the integrated offensive system that the F-35 has or the 360 visual and heads up display of the F-35 helmet. May the UK be stronger for the Lightning II which is the future generation of the P-38 Lightning in WW II which the Germans called the Forked Tailed Devil. The original Lightning was an incredibly effective aircraft and my hope is that the F-35 carries on that tradition. Future Block upgrades of the F-35 (all versions) will make it even more leathal. Meanwhile, there is supporting technologies we are developing that will make the F-35 and F-22 less vurnable to our adversary's defenses. Personally, I would have preferred a major upgrade of the F-22 because it is both a fighter and an attack aircraft. The F-35 is a dog if it gets into an actual visual dog fight because it's not that maneuverable. The designers were relying on its stealth to protect it, but as we all know, once you develop an advance technology the adversary soon follows with a counter technologies. I think Trump is going to accelerate the 6th Generation stealth aircraft because Russia and China are developing more sophisticated air defense systems and have accelerated their stealth technology development. The US is also working on some amazing technologies that will impress the world when they becomes public. Obama crippled both our military and our military technology development, but we are coming back to the lead fast under Trump and Mattis. One great area the US is developing is swarming drone technology to defeat the Russia S-500 ahead of strike aircraft. Meanwhile, the F-35 hasn't quite lived up to its orignial design specifications, but it's getting there rapidly. Pilots here in the US say that they can defeat just about anything in the F-35. But so do the F-22 pilots. Anyway, enjoy. I think the F-35B is actually the best of the models because of it's ability to operate just about anywhere. Crater the runway--no problem, the F-35B can take off vertically from anywhere. Need to make an emergency landing on any ship that has a helicopter pad? No problem; the F-35B can do it. Need to operate off roads or out of parking lots? No problem. I served 21 years as a Marine infantry officer with 3 years in combat. I retired 30 years ago, but I'm proud that the Marine Corps demanded the Joint Strike Fighter Program include the vertical takeoff variant to replace the UK developed AV-8, which was an excellent aircraft that served the Marine Corps well for decades. Thanks UK. But the F-35B is a star wars leap in technology compared to the AV-8. A tip of the old Donegal to the Brits for leading the way in vertical takeoff. MAGA!

The educated and literate among us realise the contribution the US has made to the world, the US funded us to survive against the axis forces, without we’d have perished. We don’t forget the US fighting contributions either. We repaid the US loans in the 1990’s which people think was exploitation! Heads up to the guys in the video that weren't sure if they were coming in. They went over the runway at ~1500' AGL in 4 ship fingertip; it's the overhead brake. They peel off one by one, 5s apart, to get spacing to then circuit around for landing.

If anything good came out of the most ludicrously expensive defense program in history the F35 JSF program tuned up the F22 Raptor engines specific to the specific designation. It is CRAZY powerful. Currently the most powerful jet engine in any current fighter at over 40,000 pounds of thrust. Unbelievably the VTOL F35B split turbine variant of the engine is able to crank out even more somehow. This program began over 20 years ago now. The F35C variant has not been able to pass the Navy's own carrier requirements yet during actual sea trials of the F35C yet. It is supposed to now go into service in 2019? It better be the most AWESOME carrier launched Naval fighter ever at this point.

Yes the F-35 has stealth, is easier to fly, has greater range, speed and payload, but the Harrier still did its job and was still a great successful aircraft. Proved its worth in the Falklands.

F35B is the most versatile of the platforms. Can carry a heavy payload. Replaces the harrier and is the most advanced fighter on the planet. British didnt build their own stealth fighters because of cost. The $ is cheaper than the £. Dont forget British BAE systems built 15% of the programme. British carriers no steam cats to save cost, yes thats true. However, it was known MOD didnt want allied jets operating from british assets to launch airstrike. Thats like a US jet taking off from an raf base and bombing syria. That wasnt going to happen nor be allowed. Fact. Before the clowns say f35 was beat here and there, so was f22s by german tyhoons at red flag. So was a US carrier and it battle group beaten by swedish and french subs in war games.
