Winter may be a long, dark, and dreary affair in England, but I'm still alive (just about). The sun finally came out for a day and so I grabbed my board and a camera and went out to get a skate session in. Amazingly, my leg muscles haven't wasted away to nothing, so here's some footage where I actually land tricks - which is a radical concept in England in January. Enjoy.
Need a new board? Want to get your hands on one of these lovely new Moonshine hoodies? Head over to www.offsetskat... and treat yourself. You deserve it.
The music on this video is called "Watching the snow through the window", and it's by glaciære. Head over to steviasphere.b... to buy the album. It's good stuff.
Anyway. Like, share, subscribe, do whatever you please. If there's any trick in particular you'd like a tip for, drop a comment below and we'll see what we can do. And if you appreciate these tricktips, please buy us a coffee at www.buymeacoff... to help keep this project going!

Hey Louis, glad you've got a space to skate right now. I'm kinda struggling a bit - the only really safe location close to my house has the most abrasive surface known to man! I think I might have to just accept the fact that a board will have to be sacrificed to the cheese grater to get me through this.

@@FreestyleTricktips Sure. When I was a kid I thought skateboarding was about flipping your board around. Now I'm also very interested in the movements of the whole body especially the upper body. This is where you truly shine!
@FreestyleTricktips
@FreestyleTricktips 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I was much the same. If you look up footage of me from the early to mid 2000s it is bloody awful. Lots of flips, but everything is awkward. No flow. I actually quit for a while and only got back into skateboarding at all through longboard dancing. All that cross-stepping, carving and board walking did wonders for my style. Made me think more about movements and less about flips and rotations. Best thing I ever did.

I can barely get any momentum for casper disasters when im not rolling fakie, kinda amazed how you pull out 360 ones from basically standing still
@FreestyleTricktips
@FreestyleTricktips 4 жыл бұрын
I realised a while back that you can't really do a 360 one from fakie cleanly - you want to exit out of any casper disaster rolling forwards if you can due to the way your momentum shifts as you come out of it - so I'd need to roll into it forwards. The problem is that if you roll into it too fast, the damn thing just throws you off. So the solution is to roll relatively slow, wind up like crazy, and use your upper body to push through the first 180 as hard as possible - meaning the final 180 should feel just like a regular 180 casper disaster. It takes some getting used to for sure, but it's a great feeling once you've got it.

@FreestyleTricktips
@FreestyleTricktips 4 жыл бұрын
Definitely find a relatively non-abrasive surface before you give it a try. It'll tear up your rail like crazy. Also, I think 97a is the sweet spot for these. 95a is too grippy and tends to judder a bit. 99a+ is likely to slide out if you're not careful.

That one is a 360 heliflip. Or a gaz-heliflip if you're feeling particularly silly, as it's basically a gazelle version of the heliflip (please don't call it that). I'll do a tricktip for the "base" heliflip (which is "just" a bigspin) at some point, but I doubt I'll ever do a tricktip for the 360 version, as it's such an absolute pain the ass (and back) that I have to visit a chiropractor just to think about it. Seriously, I think I do about three of those a year. They're not easy and they hurt. A lot.

Hah. It's ALWAYS the bebop that gets that response/question. That pop from hang ten is the real bebop. The one basically everyone else on KZbin calls a Bebop - the fakie 180/half cab one - isn't. I actually asked Hazze Lindgren (who invented the trick) about it a couple of years back and he confirmed it for me.

That's a Vita, although I love my PSP (Go, for the record) dearly! Not sure what I was playing back then - I know I had a HUGE addiction to Rainbow Skies over the winter, and then I started playing the language-patched Catherine: Full Body at some point not long after. Right now (when I have time) I've been playing a few original Playstation games - usually the first Armored Core or Vigilante 8.

The other trucks I highly recommend are the Paris 108: offsetskatesupply.co.uk/product/paris-108-trucks/ I've currently got those on my single kick setup (there's a video on here of me building that board up), and they're really great to ride - just good solid trucks.

Do you know how you're supposed to get into The Hospital (an old stall trick balancing on the nose, one foot underneath the tail/nose, one foot on a truck, heavily leaning forward) in a similar way as a no handed 50-50? Contrary to casper stalls, 50-50 or rail stands, it's pretty tough to get into The Hospital without having a foot on the ground at first (as in a 'poorly done casper stall' ;) ).

Oh, right. Now I know what we're talking about. I wouldn't really consider that a trick per se... I think anything where you're starting standing on the floor like that is pretty much just an interesting way to get onto the board. See also: bomb drops, drop-hops, "ghost railflips", etc.

It was actually through a Saturday morning TV show in the UK. They interviewed Dan Gesmer while he was in London, and it blew me away. I went out and tried to learn to nose wheelie/hang ten and promptly fell on my face. Thanks to the internet, I found the original version of www.freestyletricktips.com - bobstricktips (now sadly gone) - and started learning freestyle. I was hooked. The actual video is on KZbin now: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jXzbnYaifdqWapo Funnily enough, watching it back, I didn't even remember the Rodney Mullen clips in there. It was the Gesmer stuff which always stayed with me!

You talking about the ragged state of my shoes? That's a mix of something called Ripcare - a slightly more wear-resistant substitute for Shoe Goo - and regular 'ol superglue. Use superglue to bind any actual tears back together, then paste Ripcare everywhere until you're really nailing that Hobo Chic. It's going to be the hot fashion trend for 2020.

Hah. That's a 360 heliflip. I've not done a tricktip on basic heliflips yet - I will eventually - but they're basically a kickflip bigspin which doesn't flip. You start out in the kickflip position, but as you do the kickflip, you grab the board on its side between your feet, spin 180º, and then push the board back down with an additional shuvit, rolling away fakie. A while back I realised I could twist like a madman and do a complete 360 in the air, meaning the board goes 540 in total (and my spine screams in agony). I don't do them often. They hurt.
