First Impressions Ride Video - 1987 Honda VFR400R NC24

This is just a small ride on the VFR to give you guys my first impressions. It's a little bit of a directionless video but I don't think that I'm going to get another properly decent ride this year what with the weather and external factors, so here you go!

First sports bike I had was an 87 nc24. Wish I knew what I knew now I wouldn’t have binned it several times, but they do say “wisdom comes from experience and experience comes from making mistakes” 🤔🤣

They are good roads as long as it's not a busy time (this was unfortunately). If there's a break in the weather I'll hit you up for a bimble.

on my NC21 I remember having to put together about 4 different extensions just to do the front spark plugs.

I know those roads very well! Get them at the right time and they’re fantastic with a bit of everything… judging by your video and location, is it this bike up on FB market place at the moment?

It's a VFR trademark! They totally took some mojo away from the 800 when they went back to chains. Hopefully in the spring it'll have some growl to go with it.

With a decent can on the whine isn't as prevalent. Same for the NC30 and VFR750. Mine sounded like sewing machines until I got decent cans on.

The 400s of that era were way ahead of the stuff the UK market got like jelly mold CBRs. My NC30 was the best bike I ever had. Shame I had to meet a woman and get a house and needed the cash.

Yes indeed. Honda in particular put out some staggeringly great stuff. The NC27 CBR 400 and MC22 CBR 250 are bikes I've massively hankered after. The 250 is rare as anything though and I saw one go for £4300 recently.

Low oil pressure light at higher revs?

No but good spot. It's a speed warning light that comes on about 50 mph. Not sure why but it is likely something to do with it being an import and Japanese relations of the time.

Ye ha, second comment! Reminds me of a vfr800 I had 20 years ago, a bike I should have never sold.

I'm betting that was the 800fi before it went to the chain-cam and VTEC? I had one of those about 12 years ago and it was utterly fantastic. A real do it all machine. I had to sell it because it needed a new exhaust (the old one sheared off!) and I was too poor to afford to replace it. Much regret about losing that one.

Yes that's right, the gear driven cam fi in green; I had the vtec later on but sadly it was running on 3 cylinders (never buy a bike untried from a large dealer and have it delivered on trust) and no one could determine why so I got rid. Like you I have a blackbird now, and whilst I like it very much, it doesn't push quite the same buttons as the 2001 viffer.

@@wightwalker2453 V4 engines are wonderful things. The Fi really did feel like a pinnacle though. The VTEC, while a nice bike, never did feel the same. It somehow felt bigger and heavier to me.

I am not a small jockey 😆. They're OK but compared to other bikes, they are srinagar lacking.

Except for the ones you really need! Air filters need to be basically home-made customs for example.
