Thank you for reacting to another Led Zeppelin album, Crystal. The band is in top tier of greatest artists of all time. I'll always melt and fall into a peaceful state when The Rain Song plays. It's one of the greatest pieces of music I've ever heard. Also, it was used to great effect in the movie Almost Famous. Again, thank you or an amazing reaction, Crystal. Your videos are a much-needed light in my life right now.

Crystal! Happy Friday! So good to see you doing this album. The story behind “The Rain Song” is that George Harrison said to John Bonham, “You guys never do any ballads.” In response Bonham allegedly said, “I’ll give him a ballad” and reportedly quoted “Something” in the first two chords. The 60s had so many great rock bands, but so did the 70s. Would love to see you get to The Rolling Stones in the future. 🤗🤗🤗❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏

So glad you're hitting these great albums so quickly! Side 1 is awesome but I have a feeling you'll prefer side 2. These guys were coming off of LZ IV and Stairway to Heaven, and still hit another home run with this one. Musical geniuses at their peak. The Rain Song is a masterpiece, it reminds me of side 2 of the Beatles' Abbey Road album. Great reaction as always!

Led Zeppelin changed its sound up a after the fourth album in order to keep their sound fresh and on the leading edge of seventies music. The orchestration of "The Rain Song" is quite spectacular. The song taught me a half dozen new chords back when I was learning how to play guitar as a kid in the late seventies. I'm looking forward to watching you check out side two. 😃

Hi Crystal! Glad you're reacting to this one, a great follow up to Zeppelin 4. It was a real change of direction from that masterpiece, and they took some flak for doing so at the time. They did the right thing in the artistic sense. Love all the change ups, that James Brown shout out that is The Crunge gets me every time. You'll love side 2, No Quarter is...I don't know, words are hard to come up with. Great reaction as always, cheers!

saw/heard an interview where Robert said he was experimenting with 'the song remains the same' (and maybe some other songs on this album) were he sped up his voice after the album was recorded but then had to release it like that due to a time deadline (contract obligations) said he regretted speeding up his voice and he is not happy with this album. I agree, I dont like the sound of his voice (helium) hopefully you see the song remains the same/rain song live (from the 1973 movie concert "the song remains the same") and hear how it should be sung!

This is often my favorite Led Zeppelin album. My only October plans are to see Coheed and Cambria at the Hollywood Palladium tomorrow night 10/7. I worked at the WB lot while they were filming PLL. I have no idea how many times I saw this over 2.5 years, but they had extra long golf carts for people getting studio tours. So many times I would see the tour cart and right behind them another cart filled with 3 to 5 of the PLL actresses, and no onebin the tour cart would look behind and see them. My office was right next to their stages so I saw it a lot.

Crystal, being as huge of a fan of the Beatles as you are, you'll be pleased to learn that your favorite song here was created as a result of a challenge to Jimmy Page by George Harrison. "The problem with your band is you never do ballads," to which Jimmy Page responded, "I'll give him a ballad," and he wrote "The Rain Song." He even quoted Harrison's "Something" in the first two chords of "The Rain Song," simply to be funny.

Okay, here’s a take but I don’t want to start any fistfights with Zep heads out here. Maybe Bonham could have sat “The Rain Song” out like on “Going to California.” I know, I know… but I’m not a Bonham hater. I’m just of the opinion the snare drum was a bit of overkill and slightly distracting from the melodic theme. The percussion on this just felt like an afterthought to me. It’s just an opinion. Don’t flame me 🤪 I’ll listen to other opinions.
@CrystalMarieShannon Жыл бұрын
This is actually such an interesting take and I am so glad you shared it!!!! I wish we could be offered an alternative version of The Rain Song without the snare to be able to experience it and to compare! 🧡

@@CrystalMarieShannon Plant and Page got close to it once but frankly, percussion on this song has become canon over time. I just think there’s other percussive strategies that might have been more harmonious and in keeping with the ethic still, not losing the minor explosive effects they wanted to achieve at places in the composition. But I’m not a Bonham hater! Lol. It’s really the only Zep song in the catalog where I differ with them in their approach. I’m sure they care, huh? 😉
