Jaguar has never shied away from making headlines, but in its 90-year history, it's arguable that nothing it has done has sparked as much global conversation as its controversial rebrand. After unveiling a new brand image that redefines what Jaguar represents in the 21st century - quickly racking up millions of social media hits and driving a surge of over 1300% in online searches for "Jaguar" - the company has once again broken the internet by finally revealing the first car in its transformation into a luxury electric vehicle manufacturer. An all-electric GT priced at more than £100k, shown in two bold colours: Miami Pink and London Blue - the former reflecting the Art Deco surroundings of its unveiling at Miami Design Week, and the latter drawing on Jaguar's British heritage.
The Type 00 concept, which we first encountered during an exclusive briefing at Jaguar Land Rover's Midlands headquarters a few weeks ago, offers a bold glimpse into the direction Jaguar is taking for this reinvention. It’s clear that this is not a car for the shy or retiring. The first images of the Type 00 - pronounced “zero-zero” and symbolising zero emissions and the new dawn of Jaguar’s next chapter - reveal a daring pink vehicle.
The design language Jaguar is using for the first of its trio of electric cars, set to debut over the coming years, was described by Chief Design Officer Gerry McGovern as: “exuberant modernism.” And looking at the car, it’s hard to argue that they haven’t nailed the brief. With its front hinged butterfly doors, elongated bonnet, sweeping roofline, and fastback profile, the Type 00 exudes drama.
Flush surfaces lend it a slightly brutalist aesthetic, and the rear features a Polestar 4-style glassless tailgate, with cameras discreetly tucked under brass plaques on the sides. These plaques are adorned with a two-dimensional Jaguar Leaper, marking the debut of Jaguar's new branding elements on a vehicle.
The Type 00 is a significant milestone for Jaguar, in more ways than one. Join Ginny as she reveals everything we know about it so far.
Are you a fan, or is this a bad move from Jaguar? Let us know in the comments below.

That’s exactly what I thought as well - looked like the original Batmobile from the 1980s Michael Keaton Batman movie. What on earth is the long bonnet for? It’s not like they have a frigging huge engine to put under it. Are they putting the battery there to make the whole car lower to the ground? Otherwise it had better have a huge frunk to use that space. Plus they got rid of the most recognisable and beautiful icon - the leaping jaguar that adorned every previous jaguar like a figurehead.

McGovern knows what he’s doing. He took Land Rover completely upmarket, moving away from the agricultural, military and overlanding roots that made Land Rover famous. At the time people predicted the demise of Land Rover, but it has never been more successful. This is that same moment for Jaguar. It is about 10 years overdue.
@SetoPerrier
@SetoPerrier Күн бұрын
When Gerry McGovern redefined Land Rover’s design philosophy, critics feared that prioritizing luxury and modern aesthetics over rugged, utilitarian designs-hallmarks of models like the original Defender-would alienate traditional customers and jeopardize the brand’s identity. McGovern, however, implemented a strategy centered on creating vehicles with universal desirability while retaining Land Rover’s DNA through refined sub-brands: Range Rover for luxury, Discovery for versatility, and Defender for ruggedness. This approach, emphasizing emotional connection and long-term appeal, proved transformative, with models like the reimagined Defender and Range Rover achieving global success and propelling the brand to new heights, contrary to the initial skepticism .

Even the test mule looks like it sits impractically low to the ground, but at least the tires aren't as low- profile and the roof is higher. Can't tell if the bonnet is shorter from the angle of the pic, but I hope it actually has a frunk/froot.

Not a fan of this but there is an easy solution for the low stance while parked. It could be equipped with an air ride suspension that raises the car when you’re driving it.

As a two time Jaguar owner (iPace now) I love it, but won’t be able to afford one and even my iPace is annoyingly big to park (as is everything these days). So much better looking than the Bentley they are targeting but then the Bentley looks quite silly when it’s wider than the country lanes around here. Can we have a cut price “Rover” version please.

It’s a statement of intent, to reinvent the brand to be bold and forward-looking. If the production cars look this interesting they will sell. Not everyone needs to like them, but enough people need to love them enough to buy them; and they will. Without a distinctive product the brand will pass into history. I like it.

It's looks so clean, don't like the way the doors open though but wow, (I still hate the ad and the way they went around the rebrand) but wow is this a stunner. If it has a supreme sound system, good suspension and they manage to pull off the exterior look and stance in production. wow. Imagine it in all white or metallic black

The initial ad with the gender neutral models was quite stupid. That was a bad first move. Jaguar should have started with an actual car ad showing this concept. Things might have been slightly better for them.

Cracking. London Blue from the E type launch and pink reminiscent of the launch of salmon pink XJ6. It's not a car for the masses and that's great it's where Jaguar are best positioned as history shows. A low long bonnet is very jaguar and the curving in of the rear wings is very XJ saloon of the earlier designs. What I now need to hear is performance and range data . At the price base noted that's value I just hope they don't make the same mistake as the E Type launch and set its price way too low. Bearing in mind that an I Pace sport with loaded spec is close to £90k. Also not forgetting on the EV side Jaguar are current world champions in Formula E on the constructors side so their knowledge of EV tech is top flight and that will surely transmit across like the days of fossil fuel racing did for the road cars. I will certainly be looking for a test drive and maybe it will provide a step from my I Pace which currently is proving difficult. It will not however sit in the garage next to my 1986 XJ-SC as it's over 5.3m long,, time to move :).

I find this design a bit uninspiring I am afraid, although it does show that I was not the only fan of the Chrysler Crossfire they seem to have taken inspiration from that and the 1938 Mecedes 540k streamliner .I do love bright coloured cars though, A pink Honda , Bronze/orange Fiat Strada and Punto and a Yellow doblo and a Yellow Renault Dauphine they are so easy to find in even the biggest festival car park plus of course the more unfashionable they are, the bigger the bargain on the second hand market !! I really hope Jaguar have a hit on their hands as virtually all there previous models have been ground breaking at launch Love your show Big thanks to all of you

If it comes to market after 2030, it'll have to be full electric. There's no point in Jaguar investing in an ICE version, unless they plan on selling that solely outside of the UK. Besides there's nothing wrong with a BEV, if it suits the driver.

I ordered a new electric car in July (getting it this week) and I would have loved to have been able to buy a Jaguar so I would have been their previous target audience (I bought an Audi Q6 e-tron). It was disappointing that the only electric Jaguar was the I-Pace, a lovely car but at the end of its life and they never replaced it. I really don't like this concept car - it's horrible, particularly the rear view which is, I think, the ugliest I've ever seen (and that includes the Cybertruck). The rebranding has certainly lost me, although I guess I'm pleasantly surprised to see so many positive comments here. This is an interesting concept car for someone, in my view, but not for Jaguar. I would contrast it with the recent Lotus concept car, which I thought was great.

Wow! I currently own my second I-Pace (love the I-Pace) but I've never had an ICE Jag so I wouldn't describe myself as a typical Jaguar driver. I wish they has progressed the I-Pace and kept it more up to date but it's still a fabulous car. There's no way I'll be able to afford a 00 and at 74 I'm certainly not their target market but I really like it. Not sure about the very long bonnet, can't see the reason for it, and can only assume it must have an enormous frunk. I recently drove a Polestar 4 and I barely even noticed the lack of a rear window so that wouldn't bother me. I'm looking forward to seeing the production car as I think it will probably be better than the concept. They needed to do something drastic and this is certainly drastic.

The colors are fun and it's really nice to see something than then standard Black, White, Grey, Blue and Red. I'm a fan of more variation in our paint colors and finishes. I am not the target audience for this, but I can appreciate pretty. Having now finished absorbing the whole video, here are my general opinions. We're deep into the 'woo woo' mystical vibe man. How much of that actually comes to market... who knows. I find the concept cars as a whole generally give me a let down when the real thing comes to market. The innovation and nifty things I liked in a presentation are often policy regulated out by government highway/traffic safety regulations or left out of certain markets. If Jaguar is looking for the wealthy younger person that wants to show a bit of flash in their personality while keeping with luxury... great. An EV with spiritual/soul-feeding vibes about it hits right into that demographic. I wish Jaguar luck. They just need to steal the monster good charging of the updated Porsche Taycan. I'm more curious now on how they continue to fill out their line of model offerings. And yes, anybody that hasn't subscribed already to this channel is a nutter. This is a great channel with awesome presenters.

This is a stunning car and Jaguar needed to do something bold, different and provocative. With the best will in the world, they weren't going to be around much longer if they kept on plowing the same furrow, so I welcome this. Maybe they will succeed, maybe they won't, but I feel that they really had nothing to lose in trying this new direction.

Problem for Jaguar is that, this took Jaguar years to conceive and at a huge financial cost to bring to the concept stage but the Chinese car manufacturers can bring any car to the production stage for the consumer within 12 months. By the time Jaguar bring this to the customer, this will be all old tech. Hardly any EV will be collectors cars ever !! Chinese EV manufacturers don't have heritage and history whereas Jaguar does. I like Gerry McGovern designs and hope this succeeds.

The car looks beautiful under studio lighting, with proportions that don’t make much sense in real life. A heavy colossus designed to transport one or two people, lacking aerodynamics and anything but sustainable. “Form follows function” doesn’t apply here; it’s more l’art pour l’art. However, if the function and spirit of a true sports car were incorporated, it could result in a fantastic vehicle-but one that would look entirely different.

The final version is usually a far cry from the concept car. If you look at the test drive car, the windscreen is bigger, the front is more curvy, the body is less sexy. All the good design were taken away leaving all the bad design.

The number of younger urban dwellers who can afford a £100K car is a lot smaller than their current market. And a 5+ metre long vehicle is not an urban car either. Influencers keep cars 6 months max, so if that is who buy it, expect a glut of used ones shortly after launch, and residual values to fall through the floor. I'd also suggest that car will amaze me if the real range is over 300.

After creating so much anticipation, promising to revolutionize the world, here’s what the Brand promises to deliver in two years. It’s certainly excellent news for the Chinese brands, who must be laughing at the spectacle this legendary brand is making of itself. While European and American brands waste time on announcements, the Chinese create brands and launch products into the market. It’s good that we spend time studying the future, because we don’t have time for the present. Then, revolutionary in what? It has four wheels, doors, engines, windows. It’s just another concept car, like so many others that never go beyond being just that. Frankly, I’m tired of brands that want to indoctrinate consumers, that want to change me. As a consumer, I am the one who chooses, and I know what I want and what I don’t want. To conclude, perhaps the Jaguar model, Type 00, indicates the true fate of this concept: To be nothing more than Zero.
