Awesome timepiece. I just picked up my first Rolex SD43. I picked the 50th anniversary for my 50th Bday. Absolutely love it.

Nice Vid. The Sea Dweller is a very nice watch. More imposing than the Sub. 43mm is not a big watch however. It does sit a little higher although the case back does sink in to the wrist a bit so it's height is not noticeable. It is 35 grams heavier than a sub but still sits comfortably and has no sharp edging that will dig in anywhere to cause any discomfort. The clasp is a little too long and the divers extension does not hide well behind the clasp, which I think it should. I would prefer to see a twin trigger release rather than the old clamp shell locking system too. No disputing the Rolex sublime build quality, high end materials and a superb movement. Rolex does move forward very slowly in modernisng design to accommodate the old traditionalists. The gondola style case and lug system could certainly do with an update. Their lugs don't curve down enough to really hug the wrist as Seiko's short lugs and Oris proprietary system have been doing for many years now. The case and bracelet still appear as two seperate entities struggling to bond in a loving marriage. If you notice the Seiko Tuna and monster for example as is the Oris Aquis and Tt1. The bracelet flows off the case with a smooth continuity. Together as one. The oyster bracelet could also do with a revamp. It's looking really old. It's very bland, boring and overly simple. Compared to the creative curves and contours on an Oris Tt1, an Aquis or Ulysse Nardin maxi marine, or a Sector Ocean master bracelet. They are decades ahead. I own the Sea Dweller and the Sub 41 as well as many other nice pieces. Sadly I believe my 2 Rolex's are aesthetically the most boring in my collection and maybe it's time to get with the program. Having said that. The Sea Dweller is up with the best steel sports in the Rolex range.

Interesting points. It's clam shell, not clamp shell and Rolexes, not Rolex's. To compare this watch and brand to Seiko, Oris and Aquis is a little disconcerting. The people at Rolex are not too fussed about all the wholesale changes you suggest and its consistency is why the brand is so revered and why many other brands copy their models ad nauseam (hello Tudor, Omega and co). I personally think a twin trigger is a bit girly. I do enjoy a different opinion though and at least your opinion is coming from a qualified owner and not from somebody who loves to hate Rolex simply because they can't acquire one.

A couple of minor spelling errors is not really the issue here. Yes I own 4 "Rolexes" and all quite new as well as an explorer 2. Was simply referring to design and aesthetics and in no way comparing quality to the cheaper brands. Oris, Longines and Seiko among others have been making watches since the dawn of man as well. Having a vast collection over more than 40 years, I do know what looks good, although subjective, I know what hugs the wrist and sits beautifully on the wrist as well. I spend my life anylising watches, feeling watches, loving and hating watches. Quality wise the Rolex will stand above most in my collection without a doubt. However in the category of Aesthetics, design, sex appeal, wrist comfort, in my personal opinion only, I think there are better ones in my collection. Another few small issues I have is why the 904 stainless Rolex uses scratches so easily. Sometimes i clean them with a soft microfibre and leave surface scratches. Whats that shit about? Wjy Rolex does not have the legibility and dial clarity of many of my other watches. If you have ever looked at the dial of a Ulysse Nardin Maxi marine 41mm, or a Rado 45mm hypothermia titanium, or a simple Longines Conquest then you will know what I mean and wonder why the clarity is sharper than a Rolex. The other issue I have is why the Rolex case pins have to be such bastard to remove and apply. Everything is just so difficult with them.

@@joelopic You must work in the industry to be whinging about the removal of case pins. You clearly have some all-round knowledge while I'll typically snob those other brands off. In my collection I have a bunch of kid's watches - a Tudor Pelagos, Omega Planet Ocean, IWC Top Gun, Blancpain Bathyscaphe, JLC Master Compressor and Hublot Big Bang and then the only two watches I wear - a blue dial Sky Dweller and the Sea Dweller 43.

Haha, I'm just a humble semi retired security guard with a little property investing on the side. I love every watch you own , an absolutely amazing and tasteful collection indeed. My favourite IWC though is the Aquatimer 2000. The JLC is a beauty and I would be wearing it a lot. But we are all individually diverse. I wouldn't trade my Oris watches for anything. Strange but true.

Do you have to be a big and tall guy to wear this or a short and stalky guy can pull this off?
@ItaiFaierman Жыл бұрын
I think it depends more on wrist size than body size 👍
@dstjoe Жыл бұрын
@@ItaiFaierman what about the proportion of the forearm length? I don't see many people talking about the size of the watch in proportion with the arm length.
