Is the r7 not significantly faster?
@HoldenWiley
@HoldenWiley 7 ай бұрын
@@calebcoyle532 The R3 is significantly slower, correct. However, it puts out what it advertises. It depends on the rider. The R3 is a better starting bike, not to fast not to slow. Its light, you can toss it around, and still pop wheelies. The R7 is a beautiful bike, but it is misleading. The R7 was made to replace the R6 which is a 4 cylinder, the R7 is a two cylinder which means even though it has more engine power, its top end and acceleration are drastically slower than advertised. Both are great bike, R7 is more aggressive looking. Its all within the rider. Get what you like. But from my experience R3's are fun as hell and me personally if I were to upgrade. It be a R6 or R1 never a R7. Similar bikes, both 2 cylinders. So you might as well upgrade to a 4 cylinder if you're going for speed Brother. Ride Sade!

Good advice to a newer rider, good on ya. The only part I learned differently over the years, was the rear brake. Some riders sarcastically say "the rear brake is there for a reason" but never explain why. Using the rear brake along with the front brake for setup into the corner instead of using all front brake, will set the suspension in a state where the entire bike squats as opposed to only front end dive using just the front brake. Makes for more stable tracking mid corner (the throttle roll on especially), and better suspension geometry on exit. Basically helps eliminate some (not all ofcourse) of that front end bobbing up and down through the cornering process.

For back road driving with twists and turns, the smaller 300-400cc bikes are the best. Highway riding, maybe a bigger bike for the power. I do mostly backroad riding, along twists, turns and hills and I'm still riding a Ninja 300. I love the little bike!

I have owned a a 2015 R3 for 7 years - it has fully adjustable Ktech cartridges and linear springs in the front forks and a Ktech Razor RR shock in the rear, and Pirelli Diablo Rosso 2 tyres. The only other mods are a Pazzo clutch and brake lever. I still have stock exhaust and rear sets - and have no intention of changing them for street use. Anyone thinking of changing the exhaust or adding a slip on, or even a ECU flash - it's a waste of time until you have at least got the suspension sorted - because in standard form the suspension is horrible for anything other than cruising or commuting and negatively impacts stability through corners and braking. At the very least a set of emulators and linear springs in the front and a rebuildable rear shock with rebound adjustability, and some sticky tyres like S22 or Rosso 2 make the R3 ten times more fun to ride than the stock bike,

I'm not sure I buy into this "starter bike" stuff. Any bike can be a starter as long as the rider has a healthy respect for what it can do and understands defensive riding. The people in cars not paying attention are the biggest threat to bikes.

Working your way up the food chain is the only way to grow quickly as a rider. However if you just want to putt around town and you have self control, you can really buy any bike. But if you want to gain skills on 2 wheels, you get a starter.

I love my 2020 Yamaha R3, going to keep it for commuting/fun. Super nimble, tons of fun in the corners, quick enough, I’ve ridden all over the PNW with mine. I’m glad I got a 321cc parallel twin over a 250cc. The Nina 400 is awesome, easily making 47-50RWHP with an ECU flash, and some bolt-ons. Norton Motorsports has the hookup for turning these 300-400cc motorcycles into fun capable commuter bikes.

@bigoc55
@bigoc55 2 жыл бұрын
I was in the same boat. Not sure between the R3 and Ninja 400. Ultimately got a used R3 for a few grand. Instead of buying a new bike. And man am I glad I went that route. The ninja 400 definitely has more power. Buy the R3 as maxy said is so smooth and nimble. Both bikes fall into corners. But instead of getting a new bike and putting out 6k got my R3 for $2500. And can keep with up my buddy who has a 400 when we are carving up corners. But on the straights it’s not as big as a difference. As u might think. And because I can carry more speed and my corner exit speed is better and we both got our bikes the same weekend. And both of us were new riders.

As someone who has taught many people how to ride for the first time, the Grom is a great starter bike. Its not somone's last bike also, and they retain their value well when it comes time to sell.
@MaxysDailyMadness
@MaxysDailyMadness 3 жыл бұрын
As a first time rider, you need something that can't be easily overlooked by other drivers. Riding a grom, you are only adding to the 'invisible' factor as a motorcyclist. They are too quiet and too small for a new rider. They are fun and cool all round bikes though.
@ion123456
@ion123456 3 жыл бұрын
@@MaxysDailyMadness They are also very limited on what you can experience.. I couldn't imagine hopping on the highway to get to the good riding roads on a Grom. Whenever I see people on them they are just riding around in inner city traffic.

@@MaxysDailyMadness I have to agree completely here maxy. I used to think that groms were the pinnacle of starter bike culture. My brother got one for his first and I was always able to just toss it around a felt like I learned a lot. That was until I just picked up my 2021 z400. It’s been one month on the dot and I realized I didn’t know a whole lot like I thought I did. But since I’ve owned this 400 I feel like I’m a much more capable rider.
@pleasedontwatchthese9593
@pleasedontwatchthese9593 3 жыл бұрын
@@MaxysDailyMadness I don't think the Grom is the only starter bike, 300s and 600s are fine also, depending on who the rider is. But I don't think its a bad one too. I see new riders make the same mistakes no matter the cc, and its better to be making them at lower speeds on a cheaper bike. At least for the first few months. I have also seen riders recover from things a larger cc bike would not allow like poor turning and throttle control.
@pleasedontwatchthese9593
@pleasedontwatchthese9593 3 жыл бұрын
@@prodby.jerm1 If you started on the 400 it probably would have been a larger learning gap than if you did not do the Grom first, you would have been even less capable rider. Brand new R3 costs $5000 in India 🥴🥴 The R6 in your last video at a gas station is a great deal for 5k in India as the new one costs around $20000

I did at first...but owning a gsxr750 gives me plllenty of thrills..I'd rather get a ninja400 or an r3.. I do think it will sell very well..I see a lot of R3 owners upgrading. Its 30 more hp..

@@motorcycleartist after re-thinking my comment, it probably will sell like hotcakes. I bet it will be many people's first bike, like a 650 class. I just know I am not interested. Now a R9 would be amazing lol 😆

@@ericwalkr910 I def would get an R9..all that torque down low plus 115-120hp..hellll yeah..bike would be around 420-5lbs.. that bike would be A HUGE GAME CHANGER FRFR.. I think yamaha is playing safe ,release the R7 n if that does well...Boom!! ..The R1 is just TOO MUCH..all these 200hp bikes are INSANE..

The Grom is a great first bike. If your not an inspiring street Rossi wanna be and you enjoy stunting or just riding for fun. Dont take advice from this crew would be my advice.

Groms are bad for first riders because they are quiet and small. Two critical factors that will be fatal to a new rider. Earlier this month a new rider in my area got a grom as their first bike. They were struck and killed by a car because the car couldn't see them.... They are great bikes and easy to learn the basics on, but become dangerous the second you leave the neighborhood.
