Hi Bonnie. Glad I found you! It's been hard finding anyone with knowledge in this profession. I ordered the twice as sharp ookami gold/ package ($1,100) in 2020.. haven't done much yet though. Bad first move start?? 😅

That is a decent machine for bevel edge shears. A little harder to learn on.

@BonikaShears thank you for your reply. Any referrals for what to grab next to actually take this seriously -- Do u I need to spend 5k yet? 😬 I just ordered your book off Amazon too!

The Scimech Jr is just a little more than you paid. We also have used machines. Check out our website at www.Bonika.com. You don’t need to spend 5K but I would upgrade if you want to sharpen convex edges.

Thanks Bonnie! Does your clamp allow you to mount the assembled bevel edged shears so that you can sharpen the entire blade down to the pivot area? My clamp doesn’t and I can’t reach the bottom half inch of the blade when assembled in the clamp, so unless I take it apart I suppose I would have to do it free hand if I didn’t take it apart. Also, regarding that Jaguar tool, do you know if there’s a special tool that ever came with those Rusk shears having the UFO screw on one side and flat tip on the other? The Rusk 27 Beta thinner for example. I see some sharpeners have built custom jigs with a flat tip bit in them, but I was wondering if Rusk ever supplied a tool for them when sold new because how would the stylist ever be able to adjust the tension? What a pain those are…
@BonikaShears
@BonikaShears 2 жыл бұрын
The old Vortex with a similar screw had a tool that was pretty ineffective but worked in theory. I never saw a tool with the Rusk shears. I can't say they ever had one. Maybe some other sharpeners can answer that one.

Can you resharpen cheaper convexed pet grooming shears to be bevelled? I find convex shears for dogs slide hair more than doing a rougher bevelled edge. I use the TAS, and have to change wheels to go between convexed and bevelled.
@BonikaShears
@BonikaShears 2 жыл бұрын
Many groomers prefer their cheaper convex shears converted to bevel. You may want to consider a flat hone like the Scimech to make it easy to change grits and bevel as well as convex. We will have a couple of used ones for sale at the upcoming Sharpeners Jam garage sale.

Why do you walk away if screw is not adjustable
@BonikaShears
@BonikaShears 4 ай бұрын
Good question!! If the screw can not be adjusted correctly the shears will fold and flip the hair no matter how good an edge you put on them. So don't waste your time.

About the point of the manufactuer not being proud of their product because they dont put their name on it. I cant talk for them, but i can put foward my own experiense as a Blacksmith, wood worker and leather craftsman. I refused for the longest time, to put my own name/stamp on the things I made. For the reasons it ruined the aestetics of the product, and dirt/grime often ended up in it. Like axes and knives sap/wood fibers or bark ending up in it and making the tool look bad. Besides the makers mark often seamed like bragging to me. I didn't start adding my mark untill a person i studied blacksmithing whit, made a thing for some one, and he had done the same thing like I did (Not putting his maker mark on it). And this other person claimed the gift was made by himselfe, giving no credit to the acual craftsman. After that I started adding my mark to everything i make. I still dislike it, it still feels like bragging, but I do it so no one else can claim they made somthing I made.
