Can there be more than one person with the same trail name? I am aware of someone who already is using Mary Poppins and has been for a few years ... not sure what the informal "rules" of trail names are. I agree that it would be a fitting trail name ...

Good on you Mary. Trail tip, if you're going to continue to use sawyer squeeze bottle, cut down a squidgy shop bought bottle of water that can then be compressed but can be used to scoop water and then fill your squeeze bottle when needed.

Waxman good tip. I hope she is adding some electrolytes too, we really like the Nuun brand tablets, so easy to carry and add.

We’ve commented as replies on a few other remarks... so happy to find your vlog and to get to know you as you hike north to our wonderful Pacific Northwest! One tip we learned from experienced hikers was that about a half hour before you plan to stop and eat, put some of your couscous into a sturdy ziploc bag with enough cold water to cover above it a bit . Zip it closed and just put the bag in a pack pocket. By the time you stop it will have cold soaked to softness and you can just eat it out of the bag cold. Saves time and fuel. If you prefer to warm it you can add a bit more hot water after spooning it into your cup. 😋
@MarysOutdoorAdventures5 жыл бұрын
Great tip thank you! I’ve actually got a small jar now solely for this purpose as I love cold soaking as well as soaking meals before cooking to save time as well as fuel at camp!

Hello Mary, greetings from Northern California. I am happy for you. Congratulations on your first mile. It's good that you monitor the water status along the PCT. Temperatures are warming up in California. You will appreciate bringing your umbrella. Hope that you have a lot of sunscreen. My adventure in "experiencing your adventure" begins now. I'm hooked on these great PCT hiking vlogs. I've seen all the 2020 hikers, and most of the 2019 hikers but I missed yours for some reason. Found it now. Hope you don't mind my late comments after you've already hiked. I can't help myself. It's very tempting to comment and compare your observations with the other hikers. I am getting very familiar with the route, but every vlogger has a different personality and style. Thanks for recording your adventure for our enjoyment. It is art and it is inspiring for myself as a day hiker. Happy 2021.

Hello Mary and welcome to the USA. You may be the best arrival to the US since Elvis returned from the Army.... well, close anyway. After such an exhausting trip to get here, your actual hike must seem like a vacation. Here's wishing you a successful hike that becomes a journey of discovery. Hike at your own pace, not others', and take time to stop to let all of nature's beauty, healing powers, and peacefulness refresh and encourage you. And may you discover the wonderful connection between the natural world into which you are now immersed and the One who created it and said: "Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while."

Greetings from Maine, northern terminus of the AT (Appalachian Trail). You have perfect first day plan, especially after your long journey to get here. Better to go too slow than too fast in the beginning. Since you like fruit and nut bars, look into Larrabar brand when you resupply. Most major grocery stores carry them (although I am not sure about west coast.) Peace, Love and Kindness.

What a fabulous video! Wish I was there with you Mary and so pleased that you remembered your highway code, but I did think you got a little too close to that cliff edge! Keep the 'sensible' Mary Poppins head on when pacing yourself and you will be fine. x

You are always with me Mum 😊 I have your keytag attached to the top of my pack so see it everyday and every now and then I hear it clink and it sounds like Tinkerbell 😊

Love the shoes! And the shirt! What a lovely first day. I think you're going to need more protein in your diet. People underestimate how much you actually need when you're on the trail. Best of luck.

Thank you, yes I’m getting lots of protein included where I can. I even carry out blocks of tofu!

Hi Mary! 😁 I created a playlist for myself exclusively for your PCT videos. Cant tell you how much I'm looking forward to following your journey...the good, the bad, and the in-between. I almost got teary-eyed as I watched how giddy you were when you started out. Trekk-on! 😊

Welcome to San Diego Mary, my home town. What a journey you've accomplished just to get on trail. Wow. (Listen to your body and take it EASY the first couple of weeks.)

Hi Mary…..I just watched your video of the Goat Rocks Wilderness and wanted to see more about you starting hiking on your first video. I have to say you are a brave woman to take on the task of hiking this trail all the way alone….although you found a partner. I would have loved to hike with you. Must have been a big challenge just learning about this trail and getting organized to actually do it. But what I want to stress to you is when you stepped over that pole near the beginning of the video. You will learn if you are in snake country where there are poisonous snakes like rattlesnakes…..you do not just step over a log. You learn to step up ON the log, look down the other side of the log to see if any snakes are lying there and then step OUT away from the log. You learn this from experienced people. Lots of times rattlers will be lying right up against the log on the other side where you can not see them and if you step close like you did you might get bitten. This might come in handy in England if there are poisonous snakes there. I live in NE Oregon and if you come to Oregon again, come and see us. Thanks.

Thanks so much for the tip C Q! Luckily we don't have any poisonous snakes here in the UK but I'll be sure to check the other side of logs carefully if I visit other countries again 👍
