the thing about Indonesian street food is that some of them are served with just a little bit of seasoning, and they provide condiments on the table (spicy sambal, sweet soy sauce aka kecap manis, salty soy sauce, pepper, vinegar, even salt) so you can create your own "concoction" to make it taste to your liking. so if you happen to find a dish that tasted very mild, look for the condiments and have fun with it. make it sweeter, saltier, spicier, more acidic or a combo of everything.

This is a great tip and so true. There were sides on every table we sat at, so it was very much a "choose your own adventure." It was a great day of eating 😀

@@SayurItuSehatkebiasaan marah dulu ini netizen 😅 di komentar awal tulisannya "some of them" bukan berarti semua makanan Indonesia, dia cuma kasih tips kalau saos/kecap/sambal (condiments) di meja itu emang sengaja disediakan buat nambah cita rasa, jadi jangan ragu buat ditambahkan kalau rasanya mild/kurang nendang. Ga ada yang badmouthing atau jealous of your beloved country, dia kasih saran bahkan bilang have fun.

how to eat chicken noodles in Indonesia, please stir the noodles with chicken and vegetables to eat, it will create a real taste, not a flat taste when you chew, the spiced chicken taste will spread in the noodles, don't eat them one by one but mix them evenly, then use the broth This is to make your mouth fresh again after you chew the noodle mixture with seasoned chicken. It's best not to pour too much broth into your bowl of noodles because it will reduce the taste of the seasoned chicken meat👌this is just an input for people who are eating it for the first time. Indonesian chicken noodles especially with separate broth😁👌

"roti" just means bread here. but if you're looking for a thin flatbread kind of roti, then i'd suggest getting yourself some roti canai (also called roti maryam) or roti paratha. you can get it with curry, or simply with sweet condensed milk. they usually sell roti canai at acehnese stalls/restaurants. get yourself some cold teh tarik too while you're at it! these stalls are usually open until midnight. also, watching this makes me miss jakarta. great vid!

Sate / satay is originally from Indonesia (and then spread to South East Asia by diasporic Indonesians). So sate is not just chicken sate that is normally soaked in peanut sauce. This peanuty chicken sate is originally from Ponorogo, eastern Java. There are so many types of sates, such as sate Padang ( mostly beef / beef tongue), sate sapi (so many styles, hundreds), goat sate. And so many more.

a thing that rarely mentioned, is that some South East Asian countries are using phonetic language, spelled exactly like how they're written. and luckily, Indonesian language is one of them. this makes learning how to pronounce them become easier (if not much more), and at the same time, drastically reduce any chance of mispronounce since the possible variations become really limited due to being phonetic... (might even be able to spell them with almost 100% accuracy before you guys even know what each words mean) with exceptions of some assimilated/borrowed words, for the vowels, in general, they usually go like this: - a, like the a of delta, or when dentist asks us to open mouth and say "aaaah" - i, like both i of India - u, like both u of Zulu - o, like the o of bravo, tango - e might be trickier than others, since there are 2 variations, which both are present in English word "enter". it'll take time to learn which ones using the first "e", and which ones using the second "e" most consonants are more or less the same as English. maybe some of these: - c, like children, cheese, choose, but without the "h" (we rarely have words that stick c and h together) - g, like gaga - Indonesian "r", personally, I'd say it's similar to Spanish or Russian. it's a clear "r" where the tongue vibrates at upper palate
