Been a joiner/builder for 35 years and winding down now. Seriously one of the best building related videos I've watched on KZbin. The only thing I would suggest is to use an sds plugging chisel to go deeper where you put the stitches. Well done young man.

Love using lime mortar. Repointed a farm house that was 1780 with an 1850 add on the back, last year. It was a mess and around 800 bricks replaced or turned around. Chimneys rebuilt. On my own lol. Messy but so satisfying to see the end result. £200 a square meter on pointing, West London way. Got a flint walled house to do this year in April.

Interesting as I used to do a lot of this for many years and I wouldn't touch a job like this without scaffolding, far to slow and dangerous on a ladder. 28mm is to deep in my opinion its something Architects have made up in recent years and no one seems to challenge it, the old rule of thumb is the depth should be one and a half times the width of the joint, so if the joint is 10mm the depth is 15mm. The mix is to weak, NHL 3.5 should be 3 to 1 and some purists will say you should use Hot Lime or Putty but thats something they just always argue over.Pointing guns and grout bags are not suitable as the water content needed to make them work us to high and will lead to shinkage and cracking. I don't think the existing was flush it looks like understruck but when it weathers does look flush so probably the way to go. Also always start at the top when pointing. £6000 to do that down my way.

Thanks so much for all of that information Andy, I really appreciate it! Spoken to so many people about ratios, some said 2-1 some 4-1 and as you said 3-1 Yea, definitely glad I went with the hawk method, as it's a better way to compact in and ensure there's less shrinking. Excellent as always sir. Love a restoration job, always interesting things to do and they’re a welcome change of scenery. Have to laugh though at Americans trying to pick fault on your work 😂😂. They might want to take a look at their own practices before criticising anyone else.

I remember working on a job repointing 9 houses. Soul destroying! I jacked the job in the end and went to work for someone else 😂 think I burnt out about 4 4” grinders or more

I think this is absolutely quality work. Really hard to put a price on this because it does require experience and attention to detail. I would definitely estimate and not quote, especially with this job. If I was to have a guess, I would estimate £6,000ish…

Cracking job in general ! 4-1 mix is weak for lime ! It should be around 2.5 but it does say on the bag with nhl , also start at the top , so the next day you re-wet the brickwork to ensure a good key! This is a common mistake from modern brickies , not criticising just hoping to give a few pointers lol POINTERS
