It's so catchy and fun and you find yourself humming it allday long. It was on my first ABBA record I got in 1976, the very best of ABBA and an instant favorite of mine. At the time there was no Dancing Queen and subsequent songs released, so this stood out as a very happy not happy/sad rockpop song and remained a live favorite. It was released as single in Australia during the peak of the ABBA hysteria downunder and was top 10 hit. That's why it was actually included on their 1979 Greatest Hits Volume 2 and it was in their live set of 1977 and 1979 world tour, when for instance Mamma Mia was not on the setlist. So this is a special song in one way or the other. Why Did It Have To Be Me was another fan favorite for live concerts and was performed on both world tours... so they knew what worked live. Björn's vocals are funny but they did the trick by almost letting the ladies take over in the chorus making it so distinctively ABBA again and a bit more pop in the chorus than in the verses... It sounds simple but again it's cleverly produced song.

When it came out, even the biggest ABBA fans panned ‘Rock Me’. But I can guarantee that you’ll be humming this tune for hours. It’s one of their catchiest melodies - and maybe their most insistent ‘earworms’. (It’s actually one of my secret favourites.)

This was at the tail end of ABBA’s glam rock phase which was replicated British rock of the early 70s. I’m glad they redefined themselves in ‘75 with SOS. Tyler- you are correct; they were attempting to hone their sound. SOS depicts the transition towards a more progressive sound.

Happy Birthday, Björn 🎉🎂(78) Yeah. It is he who sings (I think with a somewhat forced voice). In 'Move on' he also does the narrator's voice at the beginning (also a bit forced... towards elegant or wise). He is quite well gifted vocally, but obviously not to stand out next to Agnetha and Frida. Without a doubt, his greatest talent is the creation of lyrics. Take care Marissa & Tyler ❤🇨🇱😘👍

I never thought ABBA was experimenting to find their sound. Benny & Bjorn's creativity level was always high & were always creating new types of songs. If it sounded good, they'd record it. This is why we are all able to enjoy a great variety of ABBA's music.

On the first 3 albums ABBA tried different styles of music in short 3' songs; you don't have to like everyone. Rock Me was certainly inspired by the successful UK glam rock - as others wrote Slade, Sweet, Suzie Quatro ... . from the Chinn&Chapman kitchen. Like does Your Mother Know and Hole In Your Soul, Rock Me was a live banger, see Live Australie 1977/The Movie, arranged in a totally different way with the female voices and choir.

My favorite ABBA song "I Still Have Faith In You" wich was the first song they released after 40 years (Idk if you've heard it already but I cluldn't find a reaction to it). If you ever decide to listen to it I highly recommend using headphones. I've always had a better listening experience with them. (EDIT: Ok, I've been informed that there is a reaction to ISHFIY, I just can't find it 😂) It would also be fun to see more ABBA live reactions and maybe even ABBA singing their songs in other languages (like Swedish, French, Spanish).

The music was recorded with the idea of Agnetha singing the lead, however the lyrics were changed at the last minute and it was decided that Björn would take the lead and he is struggling a bit here because of the key it was recorded in. It sounds better in live versions in which the key is changed just a bit lower and so Björn is able to sing at a more comfortable range. Also, the live version has a nice bit of additional piano instrumentation from Benny. Definitely worth a listen: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eWqzhp1qoNeggK8

Hello , so glad to see You again with more ABBA songs (but not on Mondays hahaha) and you choose a special song today, because is the 78th birthday of Björn Ulvaeus, who is the lead voice in these song Congratulations to you and happy birthday for our dearest Björn "Rock me" (1975) from the third album, the self tittle "ABBA" is a funny song , simply lyrics and rocker voice by Björn, with a powerful piano by Benny the girls Frida & Agnetha join in the chorus with all her power In one TV perfomance Agnetha & Frida dance with hapiness, specialy Agnetha near to her husband, and in another verse Frida playing with Benny at the piano and there is another video with a TV perfomance at the Eddy Go Round Show in Holland (August 1975) ABBA did a nice interview and play five songs: Ring Ring, Waterloo, Tropical Loveland, Rock me and finally S.O.S another TV perfomance was in U.S., and in Tv to Australia "Rock me" was one of the songs that ABBA performed in the earliest years ABBA performing these song live in their memorable Europe & Australia Tour 1977 it's fantastic to see the ladies dancing in the verses, and Agnetha seeing Björn in the chorus with all her love I wish You a great week my best regards from Buenos Aires Argentina 🇦🇷 South America

This is an example of their early work, where they're kind of experimenting a little with their sound. Being from that time, I instantly recognise the style as being a nod to glam rock. The fact that Björn is singing the way he is immediately reminds me of Slade's Noddy Holder! That sort of gravelly tone to his voice, which isn't his natural singing voice. The video to this song makes it far more apparent what they're aiming for. It still works for me, but without a certain context, it can be a tiny bit off-putting if you're expecting the usual formula of the girls singing almost exclusively. The instrumental parts are on point, though. Instantly recognisable as ABBA.

Not a bad song relative to the time and era it was recorded. But it doesn't stand up in the light of today's music to which Tyler and friend are used to. My criticism of the song is that it sounded like a copycat rock number. The instruments didn't sparkle in comparison to many ABBA classics.
