Daechwita is a military music but most known for when the king's entourage moved through the public in ancient times. The music is played here is not Daechwita but a rap beat embellished by some of the traditional instruments of Daechwita. Suga in his two roles, most importantly that of lower class Suga, is saying it loud announcing he is the king.

G DRAGON THE KING OF KPOP
@ericweinman94472 жыл бұрын
@@himaririku9254 Suga is referring to rap specifically. The way his underground sunbaes savaged him for joining the Idol platform, inferring he no longer had hip-hop bona fides, ate at Suga's craw. He spent years trying to be regarded as a rap king by being aggressive with his skills and using his rap to put down the sunbaes for being overly concerned with him. That is the Chosin Dynasty mad king he portrays here. The other is a commoner which for Suga is what he aspires to be. Suga feels he has proven enough and just wants to be grounded. If the people deem him king he can share as a commoner king with people without always worrying if he is the best. So he must kill his old self off. As he says in this year's Yet to Come I am a bit bothered by being called the best. I just to make music for the love of music. Saying G Dragon is the king of K Pop is kind of a "duh" statement. Everyone who likes K Pop knows at the individual level G Dragon was and is the King of K Pop. So, I am not sure if your need to say in caps what you felt you needed saying is simply stanning Idol worship or not understanding who Suga was trying to say he was king of when he said play it loud to Daechwita. At any rate, don't worry. No one is stripping G Dragon's title. And definitely not Suga who has tremendous respect for G Dragon.

If you're interested in learning the cultural references Suga made in the lyrics, I recommend DKDKTV's explanation video... They explain the 'putting my past in a rice chest" line and many others... Most have to do with more ancient Korean history, back when Korea had dynasties of kings during what we call the Middle Ages (roughly 1200-1600 AD) Great reaction! I didn't even realize you hadn't seen an MV yet, because I keep forgetting how few there are for any BTS or solo rap/hip-hop songs 😕

I believe Daechwita is the music they would play when a king walks into the room. So he shouts "Daechwita" to basically call himself a king and announce himself. The song is about a king who becomes tyrannical. The king becomes too proud and it becomes a battle within himself.

It is common for listeners new to BTS who speak English to compare the rapline to American rappers. However my advice is to listen to the music just as you would American songs, for the cadence's, musicality and flows because you can hear them in the music. I know people don't understand the language and some want to understand the lyrics but the language doesn't translate to English well. I have been Army since 2018. And for me once I know what the gist of the song is by reading the subtitles, it really doesn't matter much after that because when it all boils down to it, it's about the music, their vocals and cadences from the rap line. Try and listen for how it makes you feel. A lot of times I listen to songs while in my car because they bring a whole different vibe! Enjoy your journey. 💜💜

Great advise! I listen to basically everything, including tons of music in languages I don't understand. I listen for the mood, musicality, and melody before getting into the lyrics. Thanks, guys. I'm so happy you're finally interacting with the lyrics. I like that you pointed out how Suga uses pauses between lines to emphasize certain things. I don't I've ever seen other reactors pointing that out before. The "rice chest" line is indeed a cultural reference. I think the subtitles in "Daechwita" MV is one of the better ones in terms of rhymes and language register (using "pill popper" instead "drug user", for example). Getting translation to rhyme is one of the hardest tasks in translation. I'm a translator myself, so I know how much work goes into that. If you prefer using lyric videos, then by all means, use them. Please do whatever is most comfortable for you. Just two things: First, choose lyric videos with good translations. I think people (including myself) have pointed the trustworthy and the untrustworthy ones. Because lyric videos only give you one line at a time, maybe you can also have the doolset website displayed in another tab/window, so you can see whole verses at a time. Second, you might want to preface your reactions by stating this preference, so people don't scold you for it LOL. Some reactors do two or more videos in one reaction, first the lyric video, second the music video, and then the live performance, etc. Or watch the music video twice, once for the music or visual or choreography, and once more to break down the lyrics. I'm sure you'll find a way that suits you the most.

His idea and use as the music producer of traditional music used by the military to announce the King as a flex to make a video where he is a greedy king. It’s Soo well blended musically. His lyrics and the MV is chalk full of historical references. The whole idea is killing his inner greedy corrupt by power “king” to become the young rebel man of the people. It’s brilliant and he controls the whole process the production smd idea for MV. Nobody does it like him.

What you can do is watch the lyrics video first AND THEN watch the music video if it has one or live performance. Almost all the time BTS is so much better live. The studio version is great but they are born to perform on stage in front of a crowd. They sing, dance and rap all at once live and it's incredible to watch please take this into consideration. If the song doesn't have a music video Armies can suggest great live performances for u to experience. For example, you can watch the lyric video for Outro : tear and then go on to watch the live performance at wembley stadium. H Just bear in mind the translations on some of the lyrics videos may not be completely accurate ( doolset lyrics is great for accurate translations and cultural notes on things you may not pick up on) as well, music videos also have explained videos by bookish theory, dkdktv and xceleste to explain to foreigners about Korean cultural references and lyricism that you don't understand but I urge u to react to the mv along with the lyric video if you can or live performance. Great reaction guys

I'm digging your sarcasm at the end. You two are like some of the guys I chill with so I feel like I'm just chilling with my guys. BTS in general, including solo works, tend to tell stories in their music videos which is why ARMY tend to prefer music videos. For instance, the lyrics may read like it is about a relationship but the video shows what type of relationship it might be like inner struggle and relationship with yourself rather than a romantic one. I saw some recommendations for Interlude Shadow which I love, the music video which is called a comeback trailer is missing a verse, so looking at the lyric video for that one will definitely be good since it will be the full version. If you have time, watch the mv. Agust D like you saw is Suga backwards with DT which is short for Daegu Town, the hip hop crew he was a part of before BTS. The one thing that I always love about Suga is that he always goes back to his roots. In other songs, he always says he's a D boy-- which means he is a Daegu (his hometown) boy. Anyways this comment is long enough so until next time, peace

He loves doing strategic pauses and adding that signature “mmh” into his raps haha, it just gives him that much more attitude 😂 And then going into a really long, complex, wordy bar just afterwards. YESSS A MUSIC VIDEO 😂 and honestly we only say watch the MV over lyric videos bc a lot of the lyrics videos may not be 100% accurate since lyric videos creators are trying to get the videos out immediately after the song drops to get more views. And some of the earlier videos don’t have subtitles (before BTS became popular world wide) so lyric videos might be your only option there. I learned the hard way that if you select “autogenerated” that usually means you’re going to get gibberish and useless subtitles. And some lyric videos are better than others because of both superior translations and because they also add comments/notes to explain cultural references. And there are “explanation videos by a Korean” if you ever want to look even more closely at their lyrics which explain more of their lyrical impact since the explanation videos explains cultural references that nonnatives would completely miss. I know that’s a lot of information at once, so really, just do what you guys enjoy to do and don’t feel pressured by us to react to anything specific! I really enjoy watching your reactions to BTS- initially because I love seeing any non BTS fan react to their music. And since BTS has dabbled in so many genres of music, usually a new reactor can find something in their niche. Clearly your niche is hip hop and rap. As you can see, there are many rap line songs that are being recommended to you. When I watched your reaction to A Born Singer, you guys asked towards the end if BTS rapped any songs in English or if there are any english rap recommendations. Their English-only songs are Dynamite, Butter, and Permission to Dance and none of them are rap only. They wouldn’t necessarily have English only rap songs since they’re a Korean group. I know BTS and other non western hip hop might be a little outside of your comfort zone (yet you guys are awesome and branching out!) but I hope you continue to enjoy listening to their Korean rap songs as hip hop from a different non-English speaking regional scene. Yes, the members have the ability to rap in English (you might notice they use English loan words in their lyrics) as the members become more fluent in English in order to better connect with Western fans and the Western music industry. However their KOREAN lyricism that is delivered with an amazing flow and cadence is so incredible. I feel like you guys are mindful that Korean and English are different but you still appreciate the flow of what you’re hearing, which I like a lot! 😊 BTS members found inspiration in old school hip hop and I think you’ll really like their references in the song “Hip Hop Phile” (there is no MV, so lyric video is your only option lol). Even if the BTS rap line decided to perform one of their songs that is originally in korean to complete English, their delivery and flow wouldn’t be the same at all since 1) Korean words are not translated to sound the same as English words and 2) the structure of the korean language is very different to English- like the structure of their sentence is complete opposite of English. It makes it even more impressive that they can manipulate both English and Korean to use English loan words seamlessly in their Korean rap lyrics and still make sense at the same time. Hip hop has now branched globally with so many regional scenes across the world that it’s amazing to see non-American groups hold their own. Maybe one day instead of non-American rappers being compared to American rappers, maybe one day it will be flipped where a newer American rapper will be compared to a non-western rapper….maybe one day… I know this sounds like a troll comment, and I promise it really isn’t. I really enjoy your reactions and I’m happy that you’re reacting to artists, like BTS, who are outside your area of expertise. I can tell that you guys truly love rap and hip hop, and I’m so happy that you guys are trying out BTS. I hope you continue to enjoy doing this! Looking forward to your next video!

You admitted that it wasn’t your style of music and that you watched it mainly for Snoop, and it was obvious that you didn’t like it that much. Which is totally understandable and i’m glad to see you expressing it respectfully like you did! As for the rap songs from BTS, i’m sure you’ll like most of it. But of course it’s okay even if you don’t! We enjoy watching you guys discovering their music anyways💜 As for the Korean lyrics vs the English translation, it will never be completely accurate. In most cases further explanation is needed. Also, in Korean, the concept of rhyming is almost non-existent. But still BTS rappers manage to do it. Here’s what one Korean-American literature professor said about it: “Although the world's foremost linguists consider Korean to be one of the most scientific languages, it is terrible for rhyming due to the grammatical rules and patterns, specifically the conjugations, and shortness of the words. In fact, the notion of rhyming is absent in Korean poetry. That is why Korean rappers focus more on flow and rhythm, unlike American rap, in which rhyming is the most important aspect. Therefore, the BTS rap line inventively utilizes consonance (the recurrence of similar sounds, especially consonants, in close proximity) and assonance (similar sounds of vowels) to create imaginative rhyming patterns. This is why I've been saying that no Korean rapper or poet can match the rap line when it comes to rhyming skills.” I hope to see you react to more BTS songs, especially such as Tear, Ugh, or Ddaeng (the last two with the explanation video from DKDKTV please). Guys, you're so entertaining! Honestly you'll always get lots of opinions from people but just do what you want to do - I quite like lyric videos too but it's true that you see a bit more personality through their nonverbal performance/communication through video. Do a mix or whatever you feel like on the day you're doing the reaction...or I guess what people are specifically requesting. You can't please everyone and you'll get to hear their music either way :) I'm smiling so much at how you react to your own enjoyment of this music so far, lol. With that too - keep being honest! The real ones can take it if there are songs you don't like! You're giving our boys airtime and a real chance to convince you which both mean a lot, plus you're giving them credit for their skills and following...so even if songs turn out to not be your cup of tea we'll still enjoy you navigating your way through their stuff.

Daechwita is the horn music in the background played to announce the king is moving about- our boy Suga/Agust D is saying “Daechwita Daechwita play it loud Daechwita” as in he’s the king and he’s coming through so announce the king’s arrival. The song is also a clap back to other rappers that criticized him for having gone from underground rapper to mainstream/idol.

[2:00] Yeah those are headless bodies under the mats. Good spot! Not many get the reference. The boxes have their heads. Mad King loves his heads.. You'll see. [2:50] Daechwita is the marching type of music that is reserved to be played when the King is on the move, either in parades or on a war path.. This is a bit of both, Emperor is on the prowl ;) [3:50] Rice chest is a historical reference (I'm sure dozens of ARMY have already explained where it comes from.) - there is actually really good explanations for BTS videos, that will make you understand them SO much better of you use them (Just keep away the Italian one with Spring Day, please, it is just way too overly dramatic.) [4:43] Because your ear is not trained yet to pick up Korean, you can look up the lyrics, but there is playing with the languages (which usually is RM's specialty, but Suga can be surprisingly clever with it too) "I was born a tiger I ain't no weak pill popper like you" and then he goes into flexing thing - but in the flexing part there is Korean word that has a part that sounds like "pill" (it is actually pir) so he's having a play on how the words sound also, not just with the meaning in one language. [7:25] After all, this producer works in a studio he named Genius Lab ;D (even though we might argue that there is another genius (or several others with Suga) in the group.. ;D) [10:29] "He killed himself" or he killed another part of himself.. You need to know that he practically ran away from home, probably evoking his father to disinherit him, or at least close to it.. Another thing you need to know that this historical movie and tv-drama set is a real exact copy of the main palace of the last king of Korea.. Suga's (Min Yoongi, last name first) ancestral grandmother was the last empress of Korea. He started this music video in the exact copy of the throne, that by blood belongs to him - (there is several of these noble blooded people, and like the last king of the throne was not a Min. And there is another of those noble liners in this video (getting the *bleep* smacked out of him), as there is two other noble liners in BTS along Suga, these two happen also be related to each other, and they did not know each other before meeting in BTS and realizing they are of the same clan. (These clans are HUGE. Min clan is about 167,000 people.) Anyway, he has thrown away his "royal blooded himself" and is saying here also that some of us are born into royal bloods but the real king is the one who does the work to earn the skills and the honor does not come without the obligations. Agust D also has earlier song where he says "Min Yoongi is dead already (I killed him)" Min Yoongi is Agust D's/Suga's full name. That song is also about other things, but I'm taking it also partly how he was ready to throw away his former self, to the point of writing off all of his past, to pursue being a rapper against his parents opinions, and against all odds try to become skilled enough that his lyrics would touch somebody. * There is so much culturally in this MV and we are not even talking about why there is time travelling (AND Jin!) and how the car relates to this other (later) video, and how the car itself has a strong meaning.. Just know there is a LOT. This is how BTS videos are. AND this is not EVEN a BTS video. This is Just a product of impeccable Genius Lab and it's crowned Emperor Min PD.

AgustD is Suga spelled backwards and tD stands for Daegu Town (Town Daegu) which is his hometown in South Korea. A-G-U-STD. AgustD. It's not whether you like a song or don't not everybody likes everything. What I'm curious about is if you guys are open to other genres of music other than hip hop and rap. They do many different genres from hip-hop/rap, pop, r&b, EDM, latin, slow ballad, etc. This song is a lot deeper than it appears at first. I recommend you watch the video from DKDKTV: Daechwita explained.

Here is a recommendation for you. This one is a performance video with songs from their PROOF anthology album released on June 10, 2022. There are three songs, one is an older unofficial song that was released officially on their Proof album, and then two new ones, and they had a special guest as well (Anderson Paak on drums). This was in California they performed in April, when they came to the U.S. for the Grammy's, and their Las Vegas 4 day sold out stadium concert series. You might need to go into settings to choose English subs. There is also a conversation they had after the second song about their PROOF album and memories. This was released on Their 9 year anniversary. *Don't forget to turn on closed captions and go into settings to choose the English subs* BTS 'Proof' Live (Born Singer, Yet To Come, For Youth) w/English subs - kzbin.info/www/bejne/b6StkHxnoa2jptU We LOVE their music videos because it's a different experience. They are very talented and artistic, and they have their hands in every aspect of their art. They are performance artists, so we prefer live performances if possible. They thrive on stage, and their vocals, rap skills, and choreography are on another level when they are performing for ARMY's. You will see what we mean eventually when you react to a live concert or music show, or award show. ARMY's become part of the performance. Anyway, I will link you the ARSON video, please react to it. J-Hope - ARSON MV (turn on Cc's, choose Eng. Subs) - kzbin.info/www/bejne/h57ThZ6hlrCMibc

Folks have told you what Daechwita is - I just want to say that there are a few ways he uses it in the song. One is as music played to announce that the king is coming, but it's also music to announce that an army is coming. I'm pretty sure he intended both. He's got the strength of ARMY behind him. It's also so Korean it defies translation.... Our Yoongi finds a lot of clever ways to clap back at people who say he's sold out to the West 😁 There are a lot of Korean cultural references here that help it all make sense. I usually suggest people plan to watch this video three times, so you can focus on musicality, lyricism, and visual story, because all three are really interesting and it's too much to take in all at once 😁 I come back to this one again and again and hear or see new things.

Thanks for the reaction! Glad you've been liking it so far and that you added Arson to your playlist!! Won't comment on everything you said but my least fav BTS song that's a tough one... I really like the song on (kinectic manifesto film version) but the version they did with Sia .. i love Sia but didnt understand why she was there, she only sang an english version of chorus and it didnt quite fit in my opinion😅 but that's literally my only pass from their whole 300+ songs catalogue and it's on Sia not even on them so...there is literally no BTS song I don't like I think! Of course there are songs I enjoy less than others but the emotional connection makes me totally biased😂But even when it's less my personal taste they've always been making sure to release nothing but tracks that have the highest quality...if you dont like the song you will like the video, or the message, or the wordplay, or the behind the scenes, or the live performance or the choreo like there's always something that makes it not possible to say it's bad Anyways looking forward to the next one :)

I cant say I have a least favorite BTS song, because even their underrated songs are soooo good. At this point, it would be personal preference, some songs might not come off as good to others as it is to me. But they are very versatile, and with a discography as vast as theirs, it might take time before you can listen to a majority of their songs. Love the reaction by the way! 💖👋🏻

With BTS, the music videos and their live performances are integral components of their art, so much so that the best reactors are now doing multi part reactions where they include a lyric video or an explanation video as well as the music video or live performance. This is what's needed when you are dealing with a band of this calibre. BTS are far above the surface level of most Western music.

If I HAD to pick a song I didn’t like if my life depended on it..it would be …yikes I say my least favorite is Permission to Dance. I’d never want anyone to make fun of it because they still put a lot of work into it and I’m sure many many people like it.

Not the best song for me neither, but the charm of them performing it live and all the fans dancing along to the easy hand choreo and na-na-na-ing ....it's such a dopamine boost and does exactly what they intended for the song, bring everyone together and lift our moods. How are they so genius.

until you recognize each member's voices when singing/rapping (which i promise, you eventually will and it's legit the best feeling ever) I recommend using the color coded videos first and then you can watch the music videos at least when you do the full group or rap/vocal line songs. For solo stuff most of the title tracks for mixtapes/albums (singles) have music videos.
@foxfox932 жыл бұрын
I hope you continue to do music videos in the future, there is usually a lot of symbolism in the videos and I think y'all would enjoy that. Watching you pay attention to the wordplay and trying to find the extra meanings was really fun, I love it when people pay attention and don't just vibe and miss things. There might be bts songs you won't vibe with because they do a lot of genres and you may not enjoy it all, but their talents really do go beyond genre and they have no bad songs, only a couple bad remixes lol 😂 which isn't their fault that someone remixed their song badly... I think if you learn about the members as individuals you will appreciate them even more. Thank you, have a great day!

He references Korean history..Eg This word for “rice chest” he uses is 뒤주, which is not used at all these days and only well known in context of the Crown Prince Sado. This was a very sad story. The Crown Prince was said to have been really smart and loved as a toddler, but his father the King started to be more and more strict and abusive as he grew up. He was abused and publicly humiliated by the King all his life, until he started to go crazy in his twenties and started raping and killing people around him. The King then took the crown prince status away from him, and locked him in a rice chest where he starved to death. To “put the past in a rice chest”…what does it mean? It definitely has feel of “killing the past” rather than “storing the past” in that rice chest. And it would also imply a very painful and dark past.

just dropping by to show appreciation! it's hard but i'm glad you're trying to catch the bars. it's probably not what you do but there are explanation vids for some bts songs since we're non-korean speakers and the bts rapline aren't lazy on lyricism so we lose a lot over mere translations. 🤧 "you nice, keep going."
