"This song isn't funny but it helps me sleep at night" That intro says it all right there. Unlike all his other content, this one really is him venting. There's a video called "Bo Burnham on social media" and it's a mix of clips of him explaining why social media isn't great. A good quote from that is 'Social Media is the markets answer for a generation that demanded to perform" and "If you can live your life without an audience, do it"

To be fair, he's always been a good singer, he's just struggled somewhat with singing fully in tune. But his studio recordings have always sounded very professional and been fully in tune. Just look at his Repeat Stuff music video. And while I agree that he seems to have improved over the past years and possibly taken lessons, there's definitely no way to say that all he did was pitch down his voice in All Eyes On Me. Most pitch correction (usually with melodyne) sounds very natural, and few people if anyone would be able to tell if it was used. Not to mention that using pitch correction is basically just a natural part of the modern vocal production pipeline.

@@poloreacts27 I have to agree with her. While it can be tricky to offer constructive criticism without coming across as trying to tell a creator how to run their channel--due to the multitude of trolls who can be found online--I do occasionally like to speak up to a promising new creator who seems to accept feedback, and just offer my two cents. I've watched a LOT of reaction videos since the pandemic began (as I'm sure a lot of people have), and pausing after virtually every line makes a video very hard to watch and enjoy. There were some perceptive points made, but at times it seemed like you were stopping just to explain what the words meant, rather than wait a little longer to gain context and give your interpretation of the lyrics' deeper meaning, and your opinion in terms of where the song is going, etc. On the positive side, as a fellow introvert I admire you for stepping out of your comfort zone. Looking forward to more. Also, I'd suggest checking out an Australian musical comedian named Tim Minchin, whom Bo has stated was an influence on him when first starting out. Here's one of my favorite of his videos titled "Prejudice": kzbin.info/www/bejne/gYexkGOnq9qbntk Just another humble opinion lol.

@@timpwhit One of the reasons content creators pause so much is because so many of these reaction videos get blocked by the original owner of the content. Not this artist but most. Even though its protected under fair use if we let the video play for to long they may block the video for copyright violation. Most of my videos are flagged and I have to do a dispute every other video or so which is draining. But I get what you're saying and I agree with your critique which is why I'm not offended. Trust me I'm much harder on myself than you guys are and this takes some getting use to. I never watched reaction videos prior to this so I'm learning the niche. I appreciate your feedback.

8:18 I think also, more generally, it costs a LOT of money to put on a production. Crew, booking the stage, setting the stage, sound, recording, advertising to get people out of the home and into the seats... it can cost upwards of five figures, easy. A year's salary for someone on minimum wage. And artists spend that regularly because they want to perform. Art is selfish, in that way. We spend time and money that could be used elsewhere in pursuit of creating something that'll stand the test of time rather than uplifting the needy.

Yay for more Bo! Both of the songs you've listened to so far are technically from comedy specials that he's done. His specials are usually a mix of songs and other bits, some funnier and others more serious, but usually a combination of both. If you want to check out some that are more traditionally funny, I'd suggest Lower Your Expectations and Straight White Man. Very little of his work looks like traditional stand-up. It's all very theatrical and technically complicated (for example Right Brain Left Brain and We Think We Know You). Hope you continue to check out more of his stuff! Really loving your reactions so far!

Random thought as he talking about artists and how they are revered in today's world. Some of the greatest artists who's names we know today (wether painters or writers) died poor and relatively unknown. The appreciation of their work by future generations is what made their name. Makes you wonder what great artists are out there but get lost in the ocean of content. There's an Edgar Allen Poe out there somewhere who will never be a household name, and van Gogh's whose painting will never sell at all, let alone be worth millions. I suppose that's the gift and curse of art being a subjective value.
