This song came out right before my Dad died. I was able to play it for him. First time I remembered that man tearing up. He said "sounds like he wrote this about me". Everything matched my Dad's like down to his brother Joe, the ages, the years. Only thing different was my Dad was in the Army and not Air Force and my parents were married in October instead of June. The man grew up with 8 siblings and a widowed Mom on a cotton farm in Texas. Great song. I'm glad my Dad had a chance to hear it and feel such a connection to it.

This song touched my heart for several reasons, but the biggest one is that my daddy passed away in August 2018. I first heard this song when I was going to karaoke right before he passed away. That one part in the song where he says “my ole tail gunner Johnny McGee” took my breath away. My daddy’s name was John McGee. When he was younger, people called him Johnny McGee and my brother’s name is Johnny McGee. No explanation needed! 🥰

This song hits home so much, but it’s because of my Dad. 5 of my Uncles and my Dad grew up during the depression years and they all went into WWII. Thank the good Lord, all of them came home safely. Although they endured some injuries. They all made it home alive. I have so many black and white photos from their years, mostly from WWII era and through Korea. My Dad also enlisted in the Korean War too. I always took the wording “you should’ve seen it in color” as you should’ve been there. I lost my Dad 7 years ago. I miss him everyday. I hadn’t heard this song in awhile, and I just started balling while watching this. During my Dads memorial service. This was the first song on his photo video that played, with mostly the black and white photos. I’ve requested this song to be reacted to by so many, you’re the only one that I know has done it. Thank you. I really enjoy your show. Oh and this is NOT a cover. Jamie wrote this in I believe 2008 with 2 other gentlemen and then he put it on his album.

We literally have our hallway dedicated to this song. Black and white on one side and color on the other with a sign that says "You should have seen it in color." It was played at my wedding as our second song(my wife and myself knew each other for 25 years before we got married.) We were both going through tough times. She was the first girl I danced with when I was 10 and will be the last one until the day I die.

As a child of depression Era parents and a grandmother who lived with us as a child, songs like this always touch me with a sense of pride and a sense of sadness! These people lived and loved thru hard times and a world war! Something many today have no clue of! My neighborhood was full of depression Era people that I fondly remember, and can today ride around the neighborhood and tell you who lived in every house I pass! I guess the sadness comes from the fact that the values these people had are dying away and their goodness and honesty are dying away as well! I'm afraid there will be no one to show the new generations what it was like to be ladys and gentlemen and to live with humpty and honor! Yes I have many old black and white pics of my family's past that I have looked at 100s of times since I was a little boy about 55 years ago!

The story goes he was in a recording studio in Nashville looking at the black and white photos of famous artists on the wall. He made a comment and the owner said "you should have seen it in color ", that inspired him to write this song . He then sold it to another artist, who he won't name, to record. He then asked this artist if he could have it back to record himself and he did. He won song of the year.

The last time i did see here she was really sick and the last thing i heard from here is her say " im glad i got to see you grow up and be the man you are now" if only she was here rn just so i can hug her one last time.

These kind of songs speak of hardship, life, and it makes no difference the "color" (a little play on words) of people. Many of us understand about survival, being hungry, but maintaining. Dad's, Uncle's, who went to war , sometimes we had losses in families , which happened to many of us, race didn't make a difference , poor was poor, losses in our families were losses to all of us, it's a human condition that we all can relate. I grew up in black & white photos, but ALL of our lives had one thing in common, we're all human and share more than we don't . I'm a Southern boy, mixed race, and I've seen the same everywhere I've been... we're just trying to make it in a cold , hard world that's not very kind. My life in photographs was black and white, in real life we seen all the "color", good , macabre, blood and gore, but we all experienced these things...as people. God bless

Funny thing about this song is he had sold it. But used it in his audition at the music label. They said they would sign him and they wanted to use that song to start his career. So he went and told the artist that he was getting signed and he was excited for him. Then he said there is only one catch. They want in color to start things off. The other guy was like of that's what it takes to get you signed then take it. Just shows the community the country singers and song writers have.

That song makes me miss my Grandparents and their farm every time I hear it. My Mom was their 6th child who surprised them when her Mom found herself pregnant at 38. I loved helping with the hay bales and picking raspberries to make jam. Particularly since I was allowed to eat all the fresh berries I could stand as long as I filled my buckets. I think those raspberries might have been the only fresh fruit I got for the 1st at least 12 years of my life. Most of the photographs on their walls were black and white or technicolor of my Aunt's and Uncle's when they graduated.
