Welcome to Jinjer. That's all her. Perennial live at Wacken shows her talent well. They're considered progressive or nu metal.

They do mix a lot of genres which is great because I'm not a fan of genre labels and boxes people put artists in. In any given song they may mix in Reggae, jazz, pop influences and various forms of metal. In big ways or in subtle ways. They are excellent live and although they have plenty of really good music videos there are quite a bit of live videos from them on KZbin. A natural next video for reactors is sometimes Perennial Live at Wacken Open Air 2019 but you really can't go wrong with any of their official live videos including a new one they just released of their song Call me a Symbol. The drummer was originally a classical pianist. He has a very unique kit and style. Like every other member of the band he plays multiple instruments. Tatiana has a very smooth texture to her singing voice and IMO she's pretty much unmatched in harsh vocals. Her singing voice has an edge to it but it's smooth at the same time and she isn't a soprano but can get up there if she needs to.

Vlad is not conventional drummer in the least. Everything he does is intriguing - even the sound of his snare is rather divisive but I simply love it.

I love this list. It's the perfect guided tour intro to Jinjer. The only thing I'd change would be to put the Vortex OMV in the top five or six. Also that new live in LA deserves a place. Ukrainian Melodic-black-prog-hard-death-groove-jazz-nu-djent-metal-core! Slava!

funny you should mention Spiritbox .... it actually goes the other way -- Spiritbox took notes from Jinjer. glad you picked drummer here -- this video was made with the intention of showing him off (he was a new-hire at the time). loads of funky jazz influence. stylistically, probably my favorite drummer of the modern age. you've only just scratched the tip of the iceberg. follow the rabbit hole all the way down, you'll be thankful for it. prog-groove-metalcore is the closest i can classify Jinjer ; deffo a unique sound.

What I love about Jinjer is that they always keep you on your toes. As you get used to bands using generally the same kind of song structures that we're a custom too. They manage tease that a break down is coming before it hits or drop off of some heaviness seamlessly in something very melodic. They don't do blast beats alot but when they do its so tasty. You're going to love this band. Add every song from them to your list and give each recommendation 5 time multiplier.

Jinjer has about everything that you could ever want in a progressive metal band. The fondation of many Jinjer songs is jazz. Tatiana has one of the best voice ranges in metal. Tatiana's growl is very similar to Randy Blyth of Lamb of God. .

Ok... rabbit hole of Jinjer ... at least check out Perennial live at Wacken, Teacher Teacher official video, and Who is gonna be the one ? official video. Their ability live is equal to if not better than studio. the creativity and technique is stellar. If you really want to freak out pay close attention to Tatiana during both clean and harsh vocals .... she has a half dozen or more variations of each style.

Dude, great reaction. Instant sub! You get it. Welcome to the Jinjer Army--you've been Jinjer-rolled! Yes, uniqueness abounds here. Unique drums: Vlad sets his kit up very low and flat (not tilted, or even tilted slightly away from him) and plays with an open-handed (uncrossed) ambidextrous style that's jazzy. He plays a ton of "ghost notes" on the snare drum, and he tunes his snare super high. Then he uses a second snare, a piccolo, that's tuned even higher. His style is ergonomic and smooth looking, and he can switch up rhythms constantly and amazingly. Unique vocals: Tatiana does indeed combine elements of different singers, but she's a leader. She started by trying to emulate Opeth, Randy Blythe and Gwen Stefani. You can hear a bit of an almost Brittney Spears tonality in this song. You won't hear much of that throughout the rest of their catalog. She's a vocal chameleon. And a superhero. I call her Captain Metal. Unique bass: lots of tapping, lots of really creative playing. I'm a bassist, and Eugene's parts are very challenging, yet he never overplays. He brings a lot of melody and a ton of groove and funk to their metalcore. Unique guitar: Roman uses some really odd chord voicings, and his picking is incredibly fast, smooth and intricate. He brings a ton of harmonic complexity, but again he never overplays. Their songs are highly thematic, and everything about the song is in service to the theme. Musical, lyrical, vocal, rhythmic double-entendres. The visual presentation of the videos, the song structure--everything is in service to the song and its theme. Here the theme is duality and contrast. The astrological sign Pisces is two fish swimming in opposite directions. One being brings life; another runs for death. The heavy screaming chorus provides rather extreme contrast with the mellow verse, yet as you said there's no jarring discontinuity. It all flows together fluidly--like a fish in the water. Two sides of the same coin. You can even feel a tidal ebb and flow in the fluid circular guitar arpeggio, a subtle rise and fall of dynamics. Did you catch the goldfish in her ear gauges? It's all about water. The imagery is all liquid. The lyrics describe softness and vulnerability in the verses--and roaring defiance in the chorus. Everything about the song transforms in the chorus. Guitar tones, rhythm, vocal delivery--everything changes radically. Yet somehow smoothly. It's about darkness and light, yin and yang, hard and soft, a plus and a minus. If you were "searching for a hook to catch on," this fish might just snag you hook line and sinker! Jinjer is my favorite band since Rush retired. They are so good live you won't even believe it. (They just dropped the first video from a brand new upcoming live DVD to be released in May!) It's a good time to become a Jinjer fan. They will also almost certainly release a new studio album this year, and will be touring extensively and inexhaustibly to support it. All of this will be gold for reactors as well. I can tell you really appreciate this music. Savor the greatness, my friend! It don't get any better!

That was an intelligent reaction. Vlad, the drummer, has a very jazzy style, very busy but never showy, always serving the song. This video was created soon after he joined the band to show off his chops, and it went viral because of the shock value of Tatiana's vocals. Tatiana commands a huge range of vocal sounds and styles. To my ear, in this particular song, the clean vocal styles & sounds break down into 4 main parts: the 1st verse is more speechy with a more velvety, smoky timbre; the 2nd verse is poppier & sounds more nasal with quite a bit of fry, a lot like Britney Spears; the 3rd verse features a sweeter, more ethereal tone; finally, the outro includes a fairly high & powerful mixed belt with some distortion. I'm convinced that Tatiana could be a professional vocalist in any popular musical genre that has vocals...I'm just glad she's chosen a genre that I love. As to genre, Jinjer is aptly described as a progressive groove metal band with a wide variety of metal influences plus a sprinkling of jazz, reggae, hip hop and blues influence. I'm convinced that they could exclusively play jazz or reggae at a professional level if they wanted to. Every member of the band is top-tier. This video is widely used by Jinjer fans as a point of entry for reactors because it's not too heavy & has enough shock value to intrigue. The band has a pretty large catalogue of great songs...you'll get a lot of recommendations. Welcome to Jinjer!

Great to see a knowledgable reactor, so I've subbed immediately! I think "Teacher Teacher" (music video) and "Perennial" (live at Wacken) are the Jinjer videos you should do after this one. Another band you should listen to is Epica. While most of their stuff is quite hard, they also sprinkle in some ballads. I suggest these two to illustrate the span: * The Obsessive Devotion, live at their pandemic streamed concert "Omega Alive": kzbin.info/www/bejne/gXPGdoKcZ6akm6M * Tides Of Time, live in Utrecht (NL) in 2019, fan-filmed but decent: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e2WnZH-hiK5-f9E

Jinjer is "genre-fluid". You just can't tell what they are going to do next. They often manage to combine styles in beautiful yet unexpected ways. I think of them as sort of "progressive death groove metal" but that's a terribly constraining categorisation and a disservice to their creativity. Some say they are the heaviest jazz band in the world.
