I've said this so many times before. Four of the greatest ballads ever created were made by 2 rock bands at around the same time. Journey with 'Faithfully' and 'Open Arms' and Foreigner with 'Waiting for a Girl Like You' and 'I Want to Know What Love Is'. Both bands fronted by arguably the greatest singers in rock history. Love your appreciation of this classic song, Shon.

I'm sorry, but I fully disagree with your choice of Foreigner being nowhere, even close to Steve's vocals and talent during this era of music! I would easily replace Foreigner with two other singers with a HELLAVA a lot better bands, ONE, Def Leppard, and the other??? REO SPEEDWAGON, AND I JUST CAN'T LEAVE OUT, JOHN COUGAR MELLENCAMP!!!
@trevortamboline2793 ай бұрын
@@rhondamcbath6279 Oh man... John Cougar Mellencamp has a BETTER voice that Lou Gramm??? BWAHAAAAAAAA... stop it. Lou Gramm is better than all of the lead singers in those bands. Hands down. Steve is the undisputed king... but there are many, many people out there that are amazed by Lou's fantastic voice. I've NEVER heard anyone say that about John Cougar's voice. Ever.

This is the first song I actually watched the official video. Obviously when it came out that really got me into journey, not the first song of theirs. I'd heard the first song of theirs I had heard. I can't remember the name. Anyhow, it was in the movie caddyshack blaring out the golf bag from Rodney Dangerfield's clubs. I can't believe I am not remembering what it is right off him. Sorry I'm half asleep. Anyhow, that was probably the first song I heard and I didn't know it was them but open arms was the first song that spoke to me so to speak cuz back then in the '80s and the '70s I still believed in well. I still believe in it now but I know it's far and few and between of the love that is always spoken about in these songs. You know all the love songs from the '80s and stuff like that and the movies. You know the awkward guy you know finally gets the love that he wants s or deserves with the exception of the last American Virgin which which pissed me off at the end because of my beliefs. But anyhow, your journey has a lot of great songs. I even loved playing the arcade game cuz it had the music

My best friend and I always sang this song as a duet in choir class on Fridays. She passed away in May 1992 at the age of 13 (I was 14). So this song reminds me of my dear friend.

I definitely think this one is better than Faithfully, it's a more powerful arrangement (more of a power ballad than Faithfully) and I connect to it on a deeper level because it literally describes me and my boyfriend. When we got back together we made this our song because it's just so beautiful and moving, the first couple times I listened to this after we got back together I sobbed and I still cry when I hear it sometimes. I definitely want it to play at our wedding :)

You're right, he just lets it go. That's why it sounds so good: he opens his throat and it flows out rather than pushing or straining. This song has a real problem: it's too short. But it was their highest charting single. My current Steve Perry obsession is "Patiently" from the 1979 live in Chicago, Comisky Park concert. Insane!
