I believe they were basically dared to make a disco song KISS style after bragging they could make a hit out of any genre. And here it is. The OG "nailed it."

the record studio wanted them to move to a more commercial sound and disco was big at that time. Paul Stanley argued anyone could make disco and story goes the demo version of this song was created in a few hours

Kiss has such a long and interesting history, you would probably really enjoy all the lore and mystery behind the band. They performed in makeup with secret identities for many years before finally doing a face reveal, which was a huge deal at the time. They even starred in movies in character, Kiss and the phantom of the opera for example. The theatrics combined with good music produced great shows and lots of fans.

Damn went to the kiss resteraunt & have listened to their music since I was a kid (from my dad introducing me, I was born in 2000) parents went to their concerts. Never bothered to look up their history, I will now, thanks for the comment. Didn’t know any of that

I was one of the kids who discovered KISS in 1979. I was 8 years old. I had a friend who hid his KISS records in the attic because if his mother saw the records in his room, she would have thrown them out. Haha! Good times! It wouldn't be until 1989 that I'd see them in concert on The Hot in the Shade Tour. Of course, not the original lineup but I did get to see Eric Carr before his untimely death. I brought my wife to her first KISS concert in 2010. Why not start at the beginning and watch Black Diamond Live 1975.

Hmmm. Eric Carr? Eric Singer is the current touring "Peter"... Right?...

"I Was Made for Lovin' You" draws heavily from the disco style that was popular in late-1970s United States. According to legend, the members of the band were in conflict with their producers, who wanted the band to shift to a more commercial sound. In response, the band argued that lucrative disco songs could be written by anyone in a short time frame. The story goes that the song's demo was completed in mere hours after the bet. While the story is unproven, Paul Stanley, who co-wrote the song with Desmond Child and Vini Poncia, has stated that it was a conscious effort on his part to prove how easy it was to write and record a hit disco song. Child confirms that he and Stanley wrote the verses together in an hour at SIR Studios, while the "Motown-influenced" chorus was penned by Stanley and Poncia after Child had left the studio. Gene Simmons revealed in a 2018 interview that he always disliked the song because of his vocal part.

"I was made for lovin' you" was disco hit by Kiss in 1979... at the peak of the disco era. It was the closest that Kiss came to being a 'pop' band... The song became a huge international hit from Australia to Asia to South America... It gave them another platinum record - the 'Dynasty' album. At the time, Kiss was signed to Casablanca Records, which was catering to disco artists like Donna Summer and Parliament Funkadelic... and they mistakenly thought that Kiss needed to go in that direction after years of being a hard rock band. The problem was that Kiss was also selling a boatload of merch w/ the Kiss name on it (They did say Kiss wanted to be a brand, like Coca-Cola) and were selling everything from Kiss comics to Kiss radios and Kiss dolls... That brought in a lot of pre-teen kids into their fanbase, and as a result, their hardcore rock fans felt that Kiss had 'gone soft' or 'gone disco'... A fad to make the big buck$ (They were not wrong, really...) When Kiss launched their 1979 tour of the USA, they were asked to "tone things down" cos kids were coming to their shows... Kiss would appear in glittery super-hero costumes and be playing on a massive lighted stage that was expensive to take on the road... But their concerts were not selling out anymore; parents were bringing their kids to see Kiss and it looked like a circus act coming to town... not a rock n' roll show. Their teenage and young adult fanbase were disappearing... But when Kiss went overseas in 1980, their international appeal was reaching cosmic proportions... Their European and Australian tours were massive and packed, even after original drummer Peter Criss was out of the band, the fans abroad didn't care. In America, it was the opposite... When Kiss tried touring the in 1982/ '83 for the album 'Creatures of the night'... the tour had to be canceled because attendance was so poor that they couldn't even sell out the floor of the venues because both Peter Criss and guitarist Ace Frehley were no longer in the band... No one wanted to see Kiss w/ Paul, Gene and 2 other guys. But when Kiss went to play Brazil on that tour, they would play to massive, sold out stadiums... and they even knew the new songs by Kiss. It was a bitter contrast to see Kiss hugely popular in parts of the world... while they were discarded in the USA by 1983. It took the act of taking off the makeup and re-launching Kiss in 1983 that got the band critical commercial airplay and fan interest back.

You should do rock and roll all night LIVE version 1996 - current. Use any live performances from those years. That would light you up a bit.

Funny you said dressed like businessmen. Their 3rd album was called Dressed to Kill and they wore suits on the cover.

Most of the songs on the Dynasty album have a similar sound to this one. Overall their usual style is more rock but not heavy enough to count as metal. Try 'God of Thunder' for a very different sound with the bass player singing.

mmmmm..... this version..... isn't that great - - if this is Dubai, I guess it's a pretty recent show - - yeah, just looked it up; 2020. So Paul Stanley is almost 70 years old here. His upper register was super-powerful when he was younger (as is normal for singers as they age, losing top and bottom of their range); he sounds like he's struggling; also, they're using a different key. It's worth checking out the original recording or any of their performances of this from the 70s/80s. Glad you like it; but, you'll like other versions so much more. If they'd dressed like businessmen, they wouldn't be them. They have performed out of 'makeup' but, not too often. Anyway, thanks for reacting to this!!
