Kris Kristofferson was a Rhodes Scholar, attended West Point, was a military officer and song writer, a singer, and actor. Just to name a few of his many accomplishments. Great reaction Stan.

I followed Kristofferson through his career - and I don't like country music, which is what he was often pegged with. But I love good writers, and he was absolutely one of the best songwriters of his generation. Add to that - enormous integrity. He was bigger than life and REAl. From Oxford to Ranger training - hard to compass his scope. The way he stepped in and held space for Sinead O'Connor when the audience turned on her was legendary. It was a Dylan tribute - Kristofferson was sent out to bring her off stage - instead, he stood with her. (She was early in focusing on church sex abuse - ripped up photo of the pope on SNL and it caused an enormous backlash. She was right of course...) Look it up - the film is out there. He was authentic. The thing is, as a woman, if he'd "rescued" her it wouldn't have impressed me. But he didn't. He simply backed her. Takes a really big man to support a woman while letting her fight her own battles. He had his flaws, but lack of empathy and compassion weren't among them. Our world is dimmer place without his light.

I saw Kris in 1973 when he had John Prine open for him. The crowd was rude to John and were booing him. Kris came out for his set and lit into the crowd for disrespecting John Prine and opened his own set with John Prine's song "The Late John Garfield Blues". It was a great moment I'll always remember.

Genius, in all of his life experiences. Definitely look up his bio, and absolutely more songs. Massive loss, but he lived a very full, successful life.

Kris wrote this song & many others, including Johnny Cash, recorded it. He also wrote & recorded 'Me & Bobby McGee' which Janis Joplin made even more famous & is a spunky song. He has written many songs for many other famous artists. His song 'Why Me' has a mellow vibe like this too. I also love his love song 'Loving her was easier'.

So sad to hear of Kris Kristofferson passing away recently. He was a great singer songwriter & actor. He wrote numerous songs for himself & others. Most famously "Me & Bobby McGee" which was a big hit for Janis Joplin. In 1985, Kristofferson joined fellow country artists Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson & Johnny Cash in forming the country music supergroup "The Highwaymen". They were known as part of the outlaw country movement. Kris also starred with Barbra Streisand in "A Star Is Born" in 1976.

If you have the time read the Wikipedia page on Kris. What a life! His father was a major general in the Air Force. Kris was a Rhoades Scholar and studies literature in Paris. He was also an army helicopter pilot and was an instructor at West Point. He quit to write music and books, was disowned by his family and moved to Nashville.
