You can’t go wrong with Tom Petty. His sound and song writing is as purely and uniquely American as anybody out there. Made for rolling down the highway in wide open spaces. My personal top picks would be “The Waiting”, “Even the Losers”, “Free Fallin’”, “Runnin’ Down a Dream” and “Mary Jane’s Last Dance”.

His birthday concert we have here each year is so fun! The BEST is when we sing "Won't Back Down" before the 4th quarter of each home football game. 96K people singing it sounds amazing - Tom would be so honored. Brad & Lex: lots of videos of it on You Tube - check it out. Huge shout out to our other home town boys, Sister Hazel. Ken Block & Andrew Copeland started singing here together 28 years ago - joining them Jett, Ryan, & Mark to complete the band. Their song "All For You" hit #11 on Billboard. Amazing albums & they never stop touring. Nicest guys ever! ❤🎵✌ RIP Tom - we miss you so much! ❤

Today two songwriters write the majority of songs for several artists. Then you have artists that have an entire team of songwriters. Back then the singers usually wrote their own songs, played instruments, and often produced their own recordings. Tom Petty has a massive number of songs he wrote as does Stevie Nicks.

If my memory serves me correctly Tom Petty was a born and raised Floridian. He died a couple of years ago of a heart-attack in his sleep,I think. And I believe they both started out in the late sixties if I'm not mistaken. You two are nailing these artists you've never heard! I grew up listening to most of the songs you're covering. Too many hits here to lists from T.P. ''Wild One'', ''Refuge'' and ''The Waiting'' for starters. Keep on rocking - you two are the best! An old country boy from Sophia, N.C. ( Bobby)

He died opOctober 2 2017, of multiple organ failure after an overdose of prescription gpfentanyl. He'd been touring with a fractured hipbone, but not, according to his wife, not using any prescription painkillers. One week after the tour ended, the fracture progressed to a full break, and, he took the painkillers, and, went into cardiac arrest.

One of my favorite all time songs. Been listening to it for 30 years and never once did I wonder if they were both dragging each other's hearts around. Just let it be Brad. A lot of music is about sound and rythm and feel or moodl (and sometimes cool lyrics thrown in) but not every song means something or is based on a true story. Sometimes words just flow together and the "meaning" behind them isn't meant to be held up to a hard interpretation.

This is one of my top ten favorite songs. Reminds me of high school.
