Though I'm more into Alter Bridge, the band that features Myles Kennedy as lead singer, Creed had some good songs. For just a cruise and not permanent reunion , Creed are getting back together to headline the Summer of ’99 Cruise in 2024. They’ll be joined by fellow hit-making bands of the era, including 3 Doors Down, Buckcherry, Tonic, Fuel and more. The Summer of ’99 Cruise will set sail aboard the Norwegian Pearl on April 18th from Miami, and travel to Nassau, Bahamas, before returning on April 22nd. Joining the aforementioned acts on the boat will be Vertical Horizon, The Verve Pipe, Tantric, Dishwalla, Nine Days, and Veruca Salt’s Louise Post. Radio personality Eddie Trunk and the stars of AXS TV’s The Power Hour (including Matt Pinfield) will serve as hosts of the cruise.

I grew up with this song when it was popular. I never thought it was about parents. I thought it was about someone who beat cancer or came out of a comma years down the road. And has to be reintroduced to the world because of what ever complications they had. And the opening tears of joy were him speaking to God and he answered back with how to guide them through that person's new life.

After shooting pics for what I found out later to be 4-5 hours, he still stayed and talked with me and my two brothers!! He was just a down to earth guy. The video depicts symbolism of all the bad and sinful things he has done or lived. Represented by the meteors. Then you see him in the water being born again and changing his life now that he'll have a child. Scott's dad was a preacher and alot of his music has religious symbolism.

Along with this song my favorite is Michael W Smith "Hello Goodbye" Alexis may not like this one because it deals with the death of a child. Up to this point I wondered how people could function with such underlying grief. The day my wife "at the time" miscarried our 5th child I found out. I found myself carrying on conversations as a spectator. I felt so disconnected from myself, so distant, so lost. I hope you review this, it would mean alot.

Creed was a Christian based rock band, even though they really didn't introduced themselves as a Christian band, but they did from the get go. As a Christian myself, and not knowing the story behind the song, I did not see the lyrics as though coming from a dad to a newborn,... but rather, my Heavenly Father God expressing His love for me as I had just gave my life to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. And throughout the song God was telling me... "with His arms wide open" how much He loves me and how my life was going to change and "become the man I was meant to be". A father's role non-the-less but... my interpretation came from my Heavenly Father - Jesus Christ. Powerful lyrics, really.

Yes. I remember it like Ernesto said, they were a Christian Rock band that sounded so good, people didn't notice or care and they were played on all the rock stations, and on the Christian Rock stations. IIRC Scott said this song had a dual meaning, you could choose which one you wanted for yourself. Similarly, Debbie Boone had a song called You Light Up My Life, which everyone assumed was a love song and it was played non-stop on all the pop radio stations, even though she said it was a song about her relationship with her God
@ErnestoSanchez-ce2fu9 ай бұрын
@@allenwhitmer8192 Awesome Allen. There are a lot of artists out there that have created lyrics that had "the relationship with God" behind it all - but never present it to the public listener. The only ones (without having to tell me and you),... that are going to be able to hear is as a spiritual song or addressing it to Jesus Christ,... are the ones that already have a relationship with Christ. Because the sheep knows the shepherds voice - and He speaks through people without them even knowing it. It will minister to those that will listen for "the message behind the song". Bless you bro. ☝
@allenwhitmer81929 ай бұрын
@@ErnestoSanchez-ce2fu Bless you, too, Ernesto. I kept thinking of another song that crossed over to the pop charts, and even the country charts, but couldn't remember the name. I don't know how, but some people thought it was a love song, although the message was clearly a Christian song. Then it came to me. It was I Can Only Imagine, by Mercyme. I had the CD and had to smile at some of the girls I knew that wanted to borrow it and had no idea what it was about. I let them. Another song that is clearly about God and having a relationship with Jesus is none other than Norman Greenbaum's Spirit in the Sky. People just think it's a cool classic rock song. Lol

I saw Creed live in 2000, and of the 70-80 concerts I've been to, I'd have to rank them number one on the list for how they sounded. Other bands like KISS, Def Leppard, or Bon Jovi maybe put on a better "show" with all the pyro, lasers, flame throwers, etc. but I can't think of one that sounded better. I'd say Judas Priest and Skid Row (on their first tour before Sebastian started losing a small part of his range) came close, but I'd still put Creed just above them.

I get emotional every single time I hear the lyric "...I hope he's not like me..." And I think y'all should check into Alter Bridge...it's basically Creed revamped. Singer Myles Kennedy is one of the most amazing rock vocalists of the last 30 years. 2 songs stand out, for me. "Who'll Watch Over You" "Blackbird" Studio versions are phenomenal. But the live version of Blackbird that's probably the most watched version on KZbin...guitarist Mark Tremonti just blisters the solo. Kennedy's voice wasn't 100% that night, as free was battling...I think it was the flu. Anyway...Birch, if you've not heard either one before, I think you'd really love those songs.

This is to the comment below @ErnestoSanchez-ce2fu. Creed was never were a Christian based rock band. Never. Scott wrote those songs based on his upbringing and how strict his father was about faith and religion but he has said a million times that they never intended to be that. He wrote about his experiences growing up under his fathers rules. The problem is most, like yourself, put that title on them because of the lyrics in some of their songs. This is not intended to be disrespectful, as I respect your opinion, however, I know this first hand having known Mark for 20 years. There's nothing wrong with Christian rock but Creed was a hard rock band that got labeled and received way too much bad press and unwanted hate. Today, I love Alter Bridge, Mark's band, and what Scott is doing with his solo career. When your 58 and have been a fan since day one, you do your homework, and I know these guys like the back of my hand. Long live @creed and @alterbridge
