Born and raised in London to Irish parents and recorded this in Memphis because she was a literal British Dame (bestowed by Queen Elizabeth, Order of the British Empire, Dame Dusty) who had soul. She was part of the so called blue eyed soul singers of the 1960s.

Fun Fact: Dusty Springfield is literally why Led Zepplin got signed, when they were struggling and trying to get a record deal. John Paul Jones was a session musician for her during one of her life shows and she went and told management to pay attention to him, then the rest is history.

This is one of the great British female singers from the 60's. She had such a beautiful unique voice & covered many genres (blue-eyed soul, pop ,ballads, country, jazz). Her biggest hit was "Son Of A Preacher Man" in 1969. She had a lot of hits such as "You Don't Have To Say You Love Me", "I Only Want To Be With You", "I'll Try Anything", "Wishin' & Hopin' ", "The Look Of Love", "The Windmills Of Your Mind", "I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself" & many more.

I grew up listening to Dusty Springfield. A great singer. She was called white queen of soul.

The great Aretha Franklin loved this song (& did her own version) & loved Dusty's voice. When this became a hit, Aretha & Dusty ran into each other on an elevator. Aretha laid her hand on Dusty's shoulder & just said "Girl...." in that knowing, admiring way. I love both of those great ladies. 🩵✨️🩵✨️🩵✨️🩵✨️🩵✨️🩵✨️🩵✨️🩵

Just FYI, Elvis like Dusty, too, and covered at least one of her songs (You Don't Have to Say You Love Me). The wig and eyelashes may be dated now but the voice is timeless.

Dusty Springfield was born in London on April 6, 1939 and died on March 2, 1999 in Henley-on-Thames, England. IMO, her best song was You Don't Have To Say You Love Me. Then there is The Look Of Love, A Brand New Me, I Just Don't Know What to Do and o manymore.

The singing of the Son of a Preacher Man between Dusty Springfield's version and Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin's version, I love Dusty's version better and still do. Your reaction takes me back to the mid 60's when I was teenager and for the first time hearing her on the radio, I was hooked.

My second favorite d.springfield song is ‘The Look of Love’ because it shows how versatile her talent is - it’s a jazz standard. Although different versions are better than others. I prefer the version that ends with lusty sax solo; as opposed to extended trumpet solo

Why do black male commentators always make a bit of a joke about Dusty and patronise her? She was one of the true greats. When it's Aretha or Gladys it's like we're on hallowed ground and it's serious respect.

Sexy is a feeling from within not how much skin you can show or clothes so tight you can see their organs. Dusty does sexy with clothes on as does Kylie minogue.
