Coming from a Ford Technician for about 38 years, (I also own a Jeep TJ) This is a big step for Ford, They will improve it as time goes on. So far we have not seen any in for repairs since it's release, But we haven't sold a lot of them yet (about 8 have arrived) I highly rec you take the time and read the owners manual, There is a lot of helpful advice even for a season guy like yourself. Very fair review from a Jeep guy…always find those interesting. I have my Badlands Sasquatch set for production the first week of February and can’t wait to get it off road. For me the Bronco is perfect living in Arizona, as I’m more focused on higher speed Baja driving and trips. Neither a Jeep or a Bronco are “Better” than the other….only “different”. People need to figure that out.

You are exactly correct. I have a rubicon and want my wife to get a bronco…the two best out of the box off road vehicles available.
@BrooklynNY19792 жыл бұрын
As a Jeep guy myself, I'd almost agree with you but the Bronco DESTROYS the Jeep on-rode. Jeep needs to SERIOUSLY step its game up in that arena. The Bronco is comparable to the Wrangler off road. These facts ( backed up by vehicle specs and customer reviews) put the Bronco on top, folks may take issue with a computer glitch or 2, but let's face it, the majority ( 90% ) of folks use our vehicles as daily drivers, so comfort is a MUST! I do love my Jeep but it's not comfortable to drive, and the cost you pay to make it somewhat comfortable is ridiculous. I do hate that theres a wait on all hard tops, as I overland and have a rooftop tent. Jeep shot itself in the foot, they got lazy at the top, charging folks a premium price for a subpar vehicle. Ford listened to its customers ( and Jeep complaints) and created a great product

@@SilverSleuth i get what you’re saying but I honestly didn’t take this as an “in depth 6 month” type of review. It was more of first impressions and looking at all the bells and whistles. I dig that Bronco though. If the markup wasn’t so high and there were no availability issues, I likely would have gotten one over my 21’ JLURD. Still no regrets though. ✊🏾

One good thing about the returning of the Ford Bronco is that it will keep the rest of the class more competitive and that will result in better vehicles for the consumers in general. If they are doing a raptors version on the Bronco then they should go to a solid front axle on the regular Bronco and leave the raptor with independent front suspension.

I enjoyed your review, thank you I don’t think it was totally unbiased (and that’s ok), when you only ask how it’s worse than the Jeep, but don’t ask how it’s better than the Jeep. I’ve owned a Rubicon for 7 years and love what it can do off-road. I’ve done extensive wheeling in it (Moab , Rubicon, most of the honor badge trails in the west) and really enjoyed it. My Jeep spends at least 3-months a year in the shop, not for trail damage or abuse, but repeat issues that the dealership really should have been able to figure out. I recognize that most don’t have as many issues as I’ve had, so I’m not saying all Jeeps are bad, but mine is the least dependable vehicle I’ve ever owned. My Badlands should be here in a few weeks.

I have a new bronco with the new redesigned hardtop. It’s still pretty loud in the interior at highway speeds (45+ mph). The b&o stereo on my wildtrak lux covers it up nicely but still. For overlanding from a so cal base, where freeway drives exceed 4 hours, I’d rather own a full size truck, Tacoma, or 4Runner. Like a wrangler, the new bronco isn’t much of a freeway cruiser. I’m putting my bronco for sale and using the profit to put towards a build similar to your power wagon and 4 wheel camper.

The way you guys filmed this and the way you spoke about it it’s hard to deny the Ford bronco esp in this Sasquatch edition. I recently off-roaded in my hemi v8 2020 ram 1500 4x4 properly for the first time and even though it was effortless my biggest grunt with modern 4x4s is the sensors and alarms that can signal when putting a vehicle through terrain. When I waded thru a trail that had 20+” of water my truck did it with ease even though the base was muddy and I had stock tires, but the sensors went crazy. My 2006 Dodge Ram regular cab manual doesn’t have any sensors besides check engine light and ABS so when I do anything technical it doesn’t alarm and it makes me feel much more comfortable.

I've been following your channel for a year now as I patiently awaited my Bronco, I hope to see you guys on one of your adventures one day! I did upgrade the tires immediately to some Nittos, as there are complaints about the factory ones throwing up rocks and causing chips all over the body. I agree with you 100% I also have 5 Jeep JL 2 Soft top convertibles 2 Sahara 4xe 1 rubicon 4xe and Honestly can't say that I like the Bronco more than my Jeeps. Every single Jeep and Bronco offer something unique, Jeep feels much smaller and easy to drive especially on tight turns, less tech makes more enjoyable on the trails. Gas mileage is much better on the Jeep. Both my Bronco 2.3 and 2.7 horrible on gas. But of course we don't buy this for gas economy. BRONCO has the cool factor that is new and shiny and boostefull. Jeep is the classic that no matter what you can't duplicate. So, for my experience I am 51%Jeep Rubicon 49% Bronco with Sasquatch. That's how close the experience is with the two rivals. No better, Not worse, just different. By the way is this Anza, Borrego desert territory?

Can’t wait to see more Bronco content! For everybody hating on the Bronco think it’s important to compare it to a stock Jeep. I think the solid front axle is better for rock crawling and the IFS is better for everyday highway. If most people are honest, that’s 99% (or more) of the driving they do.
@azdarylbrown2 жыл бұрын
Speaking honestly for me, I’d respectfully disagree with the 99%. For many of us, our Jeeps are not daily drivers, instead purely for recreational off-road use. Sure we often highway drive to the trailhead, but I simply don’t have an expectation of superior road performance from my TJ as long as it takes care of me off-road. The Bronco is cool tho. Like others have alluded to, it’s kind of a transitional option, great for long overlanding excursions, but maybe not your first choice for more technical trails. Fills a gap between Brad’s Wrangler and his Camper pickup. Would also be a reasonable option if you rely on it exclusively for all your transportation needs like driving to work, long road trips and weekend wheeling, but then again, a new 4 Door Wrangler…At the end of the day, competition for Jeep doesn’t hurt.

Going from a ‘92 Explorer to a ‘97 Jeep XJ was eye opening. The XJ was way more tactile and felt quicker off the line. I can deduce from your video a solid front axle would’ve made the Explorer a much better vehicle for it’s weight and design. Though Ford had great success with the twin traction beam (TTB) front suspension.
@JEEP-N-DIRT2 жыл бұрын
Great stuff. As I've stated to many folks already, both the jeep and bronco have their place. Ford copied the JL layout to compete and so far they're doing a good job. but at the end of the day, we'll have our favorites and each will have their purpose. A jeep is a jeep and there is no other. It started out life in the WWII days as a solid axle do anything type vehicle and it maintains that careful balance today (although there's a large population of mall crawlers in the world). No matter which vehicle anyone chooses there's pro's and con's to each every day, every year, every decade, and every generation. As long as we team together to keep places open and accessible we'll all have a place to wheel what ever we choose.
@richardwheeler37682 жыл бұрын

One of the things for me on your channel is your mods and upgrades , now your comparing a stock bronco to a fully kitted out jeep , cant wait to see what you do with this to make it better and your own.. if you find the support from aftermarket manufactures guess that will come with time ... but i must say i love that the jepp it is like leggo where you have everything you need to build a dream truck, have to see weather you can do the same with the ford ..lets hope so ,not a big fan of where electronics is what's needed to make it move, where mechanics in my view outshines this for bush fixes and survivability when your out there in the wastelands and something goes wrong , not sure a zip tie and gaffer tape will do the trick on the bronco !!!

This is terrific guys. Loved the video and the thoughtful comments. I also drive a decked out JK (on 35's tho) and have had a Bronco Badlands/SAS/Lux/2.7l reservation since day 4. Order has been in with the dealer since early this year, but I refuse to compromise on the soft top so I'm now in the 2022 production queue. Not sure when I'll get it but I'll be living vicariously through your channel for now. My biggest issue is to figure out how to get a winch on the Bronco while preserving the camera and front radar (ACC) functions. I'd love to see what you come up with there Brad. A few aftermarket options are just starting to come out - most sacrifice one or more sensors! My main use case for my JK is over landing to remote places on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon so I can hike off the rim. I beat the piss out of my JK off road, but I'm not really doing stuff (like Moab) where you're flexing the crap out of it. The JK will surely win a flex contest, but that's not why I bought the Bronco anyway. I'd be quite interested in what you do to the Bronco to make it more over landing friendly. Of course, I'm surely looking forward to the road manners of IFS on the long drives to the canyon. Any comparison between your JK and the Bronco on-road would be interesting too even though many folks watching your channel may not care about that. Honestly, I bought the Bronco hoping for better reliability and better on road manners than my JK. I know that off road the JK will win in the end, but I think the Bronco will go to 99% of the places I'd take my JK anyway. Biggest decision for me: keep the JK and the Bronco or sell one. That all depends on how the Bronco performs because the JK does a lot of things well.

I agree -- One Pedal is not something I would use that much. It seems you have to push harder on the gas to get it going. I'm surprised you didn't mention Trail Control one bit. Trail Control is one of my favorite features. It's the same middle button, but setting your speed in half mph increments on the steering wheel. It's cruise control for trail crawling and quite amazing! I guess you need to leave stuff out for future videos . . . Anyway, great video. I hope to see a new adventure soon!

Agree with ya here. During the Bronco Off-Rodeo in Moab, I was able to use Trail Control and absolutely loved it.

Great review! There are some things to like about the new Bronco, but a Jeep configured in a similar manner is some really tough competition. I'm thinking all those sensors are going to help tremendously at the mall.

That's the thing though, the vast majority of the time, these vehicles aren't being driven off-road. The biggest weakness of the Wrangler IMO is its on-road abilities are pretty atrocious, and I think Ford was attempting to make a few compromises (such as IFS) to make the Bronco's on-road manners a bit more tolerable. What I'm curious about is, do these compromises lead to the Bronco being significantly worse off-road than the Wrangler?

It may be that solid axle front driver people, drive differently. I noticed when I took my first trail with other rigs on one of the difficult parts of the (not a very difficult trail overall really) Cleghorn, in my 94 range rover classic. That the jeeps were using the travel of the suspension more than I would have expected. My tires were 245 75 16's. All the other rigs were at least 33's and had much more customized suspensions. I didn't have quite the suspension upgrades so I steered up the trail, working back and forth to keep all my tires on the ground I went up without spinning a tire. More simply put, I think if you have rigs that have huge suspension travel, that you approach trails in a more difficult way on purpose, more so if you have lockers. Since you know you have the suspension travel and the clearance you just go straight over obstacles, where people who don't have all the suspension mods, pick there way through the trail. Comparing the Jeeps to the Bronco is certainly natural. But I think they need to be compared as stock vehicles. By people who are not off road kings, used to vehicles with the best suspensions possible. I mean some of the rigs I have seen on your show, have so many custom suspension upgrades that if you get in a stock anything and say. Well I lifted my tire, not sure I like that. The new Defender lifts tires on every trail somewhere, but that is due to the new traction control thinking and rigid frames and independent suspensions. But I am sure anywhere the bronco goes The defender would be right there in the mirror behind it. Hell the moon Rover has Independent suspension, it gets along fine. Bronco is meant to be what both of you seemed to convey, it's meant to be fun. Seemed like you two were having fun. right? so you had a tire in the air, the best part was you really didn't notice that part until you saw it on video.. Great channel, Great host(s)..

Towing is a huge limitation. It looks bigger than a wrangler but it tows ~ the same. Looking forward to seeing if jeep decides to update their ancient motor. Keeping an eye on the 2023 Ford Ranger.

Great video. I've been following your channel for a couple of years now and when this video popped up, I was like Wow! I got my Antimatter Blue Badlands last month and loving it. Tell your son, that he doesn't have to use the GOAT modes, he can manually shift to 4hi and low. :-) Can't wait to see more Bronco content.

As an IFS Toyota wheeler, pack a few tie rods and a spare CV if you're going to do some hardcore trails. Thats the only weakness when pushing a locked IFS hard for a long time. It looks like the rear flex on ford's solid rear sucks compared to a stock Jeep or Toyota though.

Surprised you did not do the Bronco Off Roadeo event, great introduction to the Bronco and the tech even for someone as knowledgeable as your family. Plus, it would make a great video. Excited for mine and looking forward to having a Jeep and Bronco in the driveway.

I'm an old schooler, landcruiser (with a Chevy 283), old school 60's bronco or the Titan (in my opinion) the International SCOUT. I REALLY HOPE THIS THING HOLDS UP TO IT'S LINGUIGE, too many throw backs today aren't matching up.... twist and bend that thing Make her work for that 4 STAR RATING..... LOL👌 GOOD LOOKING VEHICLE no doubt.

I'd like to see how it does on two test trails; on the Mojave Rd zipping along and the Rubicon inching along. That should tell a lot. Nice looking rig. Congrats on getting one!

The Bronco may have a few little issues compared to the jeep, but nothing aftermarket can’t fix or the refreshed model. It’s impressive the package you get as stock. But like every car, including the jeep, there are some areas for improvement. Stock for stock, I can’t see much of a difference.
@Michael-ur5qb2 жыл бұрын
Idk if build quality is something that can be fixed with aftermarket. Everything looks good but let’s see about long term. I was comparing my neighbors bronco to my wrangler and there were some things reviews leave out. 1. The soft top just isn’t there in terms of quality. The Wrangler’s fabric is thicker and seems like its more supported underneath. I wonder how snow will wear on the Broncos soft top. I also don’t like the visibility. Ford could lower the belt line of it and it would help practicality for off road and as a daily driver.
@KingLuis19852 жыл бұрын
@@Michael-ur5qb time will tell. But the bronco soft top is meant to fold up at the back. Lots of guys haven’t had issues with snow already.

Hey Brad great review! I am curious if you had a chance to utilize all of the camera views that are available? Forward camera going over a blind climb? Or the side or over head camera views? Also I am sure you must have done it but I didn’t hear you mention or see you utilize the stay bar disconnect or trail turn assist. I would recommend taking advantage of the Bronco OffRoadeo to get familiarized with all of the features. My daughter and I went and attended at Moab. Something for even you Wylie off road veterans!😉 Love your videos and hopefully see you on the trails!

I've heard that some use the hood tie points as a tire placement guides cause they run right in line with the tires to give you a good general idea from the drivers seat.
