I don't know if anyone answered your question yet, but the reason you can't climb walls in the shrines is because it would destroy the puzzle if you could just climb to the end.

My favorite Zelda game is Ocarina of Time for the N64. If you’re new to Zelda Breath of the Wild can be quite a bit overwhelming with how much larger it is than older Zelda games.

Don't worry, I got him not wearing any gear (even in totk) all the way till the 1st town because (this is canon by the way), he moves and swims faster without any fabric on. :)
