This isn't a typical nin song, because there _isn't_ a typical nin song - they are incredibly varied, sometimes changing genres in the same song (for example All The Love In The World starts as a sparse glitchy electronic track and gradually morphs into a stadium rock stomper without you really noticing). As you seem particularly interested in the drum side of things, I'd be interested to see what you make of something like March Of The Pigs.

There are two typical NiN songs : "This is a Trent Reznor song" and "Germs". But they aren't from NiN.

My boyfriend introduced me to Nine Inch Nails when we met. Closer and Head Like a Hole are my favourite. Songs that would be played in the rock clubs we used to go to, would always get people up on the dance floor

this album was a great revival/renewal for Reznor.. he had some time to eventually craft this album after some introspective times by himself.. the opening track itself "All The Love In The World" is a brilliant presentation of slowly revealing himself, his ideas, & even took the fascinating steps in trimming 4/4 to 7/8 time signatures during his verses, cutting out what were "predictable" last rhymes of depressing stereotypical lyrics he faced in the past.. then he just peeled like an onion each step into the song, building to an amazingly layered 4/4 harmonized romp stomp ending.. on the same album is the brilliant "Every Day Is Exactly The Same" (oddly my personal daily theme through the beginning of this pandemic).. his play in textures, layers, & unexpected (yet perfectly placed) breaks or shifts in sound/volume are present throughout this album & his entire discography to this day.. i HIGHLY recommend his free gift to everyone his albums "Ghosts V" & "Ghosts VI" during the pandemic! talk about a vast exploration of the musical styles.. thank you for your reaction!

Industrial started in the 70s in the UK after punk with the band Throbbing Gristle. It quickly spread to Eastern Europe, Germany and America and primarily was Electronic. Industrial Rock and Metal emerged in the late 80s. So while NIN didn't spearhead the movement they did popularise it.

My ultimate favorites are We're In This Together Now and Reptile, but for newer stuff maybe Copy Of A (live of course, they're so good live) or Background World. Trent does really "ugly" sounding things good, but he does beautiful as well! Home for example is such a beautiful song. Such a versatile band.

Trent definitely has a more subdued singing voice. Ironically I'd say this song is one of his more intense vocals. It's also more upbeat instrumentality and less layered than most other NIN songs. Trent loves layering. I definitely recommend songs like Terrible Lie, March of the Pigs, Sanctified or even more mainstream songs like Closer (be prepared for that video), Perfect Drug, We're in this Together Now, or Head Like A Hole. Or the recent collab with HEALTH called Isn't Everyone. Also the reason you couldn't find much info on the band is because Trent was the only official member for most of NINs discography and he only recently added Atticus Ross as an official member after working with him for a long time.

Long time NIN Fan . You should check out the Year Zero Record from 07 his concept record about the non fiction we would be experiencing through a fiction based sci Fi narrative in 2022 if we continued to watch purist religious zealotry , deregulated corporate interests , the military industrial complex , corporate media , and the government continue to merge . In tother words.... it aged well and it's a pretty damn good listen with or without experiencing the A.R.G. wormhole of hidden websites , phone numbers , videos and hidden images found in spectrographs in the songs 😉

amen! that album was, in hindsight, darkly prescient! i recall the CD packaging - nay, the CD itself! it's a white CD, but after playing it on any CD player/computer, i was surprised that it thermally reacted to heat, so when i ejected it, it revealed all these lines w/zeros & ones (nod to the track), plus the first pressings contained a flyer informing you of a toll-free # to call & "report a friend who has committed free thought"! i called it...brilliant 1984 nod! of course the graphic designer Rob Sheridan posted all over social media after the f'd up bible-holding photo op disaster a few years ago, pointing out the unfolding of the CD covers to reveal 1 arm holding a gun, the other holding a bible w/the internal art landscape revealing a seemingly dystopian/post apocalyptic vision of a bombarded/burning landscape w/a church remaining if i recall.. very govt-oriented artistic theme to accompany the coinciding themes of each song.. definitely great example to bring up!

This song made in 2005 was a direct shot at George W Bush…at his live shows I went to he always leads the intro by sarcastically saying ladies and gentlemen for my friend George bush 😂….. best song I’ve ever heard them play live is hard to say…but Less Than live from their panorama performance blew it outta the water
