Brett, I never thought of him as a heart throb but, of course, I'm a guy. It was his voice. His voice captivated us all. He blew us away. I loved that voice. :)

I think Randy Travis was kind of a shy country boy. There is a very cute video of Dolly Parton at the ACM awards one year and she walked up and sat on his lap and flirted with him and then then next year, he was a presenter and came out on stage and Dolly followed him out on stage and said she was just making sure he didn't need her!

I've heard the lie of you can fall out of love with someone. No if you can fall out of love than you were never in love! REAL LOVE IS FOREVER. My dad has been dead since August 13th 2021 and my mom still says his name everyday and how much she misses him.
@peterbeard9000 Жыл бұрын
I think the first part of the song was written so politely that you may have missed the meaning. Cheap perfume, pretty faces, Fallen angels (think strippers) fill the places, He is going to bars and strip clubs to talk to other women and paying for their affections while his wife is home in bed crying. He is making “token promises” (empty/unkept) that he will stop going to the strip clubs for affection and come home to her. She realizes he will never change and she leaves him.

Randy Bruce Traywick was born on May 4, 1959 in Marysville, North Carolina. He is a Gospel singer and country music, he was married to his business agent Elizabeth Hatcher 1991-2010, and second wife Mary Davis. In 2012 he was arrested for being drunk , crashing his car and passed out naked on a highway in Texas. He also had an additional charge of terrorist threats of police State Troopers. He was let on bail of $ 21,500, and he was arrested again the same night for trying to buy a pack of cigarettes in a 🐅 Tiger Mart Conventions Store, while naked, he demanded to serve him. He realized he didn't have money to pay for it. In 2013 Travis pleaded guilty to driving drunk on the August 7 incident and received two years probation and a $2,0000 💵 dollars fine. His marriage ended two years ago, and his career was on a downward spiral, he was falling apart. Caused these incidents!! It's extremely heartbreaking and sad. 2013 he was hospitalized for viral cardiomyopathy, and had a stroke, he lost his voice. He was hospitalized again for aphasia, after his stroke he relearned walk short distances without a cane play guitar 🎸 again. He remarried in 2015. Promises was released on May 29,1989 . It was written by Randy Travis and John Lindley.

Randy had it so hard, he met up with an older woman that heard and discovered him, I guess some type of music agent, and she did everything, set up the studio and band and had him cut some demos. This is the short version and I'm not sure of every detail, but I do know this, she knew when she first discovered him singing, that a gold mine was standing there before her eyes, (I mean come-on, it's Randy Travis, and although very young and definitely inexperienced his voice was always Golden!!) After cutting these demos, this gal pounded the streets and radio stations as well as sent every record label to hear this amazing young artist that was clearly was mega star material..after all the work out in by this woman finally a label did call them and the rest is history right? Not so fast 😐. From the beginning, Randy and this woman were intimate, I truly believe that Randy's intentions were always upfront they both agreed and that his main objective was to become a music artist, and hers was to help and promote him, and when all was said and done they'd both be wealthy. After a couple years and Randy established he wanted to cut ties with this woman and was offered a better record label contract and he was never in love with this woman wanted to move forward on his own and with his life. All hell broke loose when he talked to her about them going their separate ways and this woman had more than enough 💰 to get her in a great life style forever if she wanted. She said to him, NOT SO FAST BUSTER, We are a sealed deal!! He said no, we helped each other, you don't love me & visa versa! She said and meant every word, that she'd not only sue his ass for every cent he had, but would destroy his career, and she knew exactly how to do it! Scared the crap outta Randy believing that she could and would do just that! It was settled right then and there, and she told him they were getting married right away! They were married, for many many years over 10+ more. Talk about miserable, they didn't sleep together but out in public she made sure to make them look really in love, and all Randy could do was grin and bare it. Finally after a show he went to have coffee not exactly sure, so I'm only assuming here, but his current wife today was introduced to Randy, he ask her to sit and visit for a bit. He told her everything, she told him that the woman was breaking the law by blackmail, threat of ruining him, she told him that she had a lawyer friend and if he'd like to talk with him? Sure did, although still afraid of what would ultimately happen to his career. This lawyer was so damn good that he told Randy to just keep their meeting to himself, and he'd take care of the rest...By the time Randy's lawyer got through with this greedy no good woman, she was gladly willing to finally walk away or spend a good length of time behind bars and completely broke!! You can go on utube Britt and check out the story yourself, really good stuff lol...

I love the creative writing of the opening lyric "Sweet perfume and painted faces, fallen angels fill the places, where I go when my troubles pull me down." In my mind, I interpret it as being a strip joint. But it could simply just be a bar of some kind.. To those who aren't familiar with the Bible, "fallen angels" aren't a good thing. And it's ironic that some people use that as a pickup line, when they ask someone if they fell from heaven.

This one was sad enough already, but he Reeeally slowed this one down from the original. If you like the "speaking voice" you should check out It's Just A Matter Of Time. Then you'll completely belive he's a Heartthrob! (although, to be fair - - he's more of a beloved icon and legend, than heartthrob )

I remember you saying young George Jones looks like Woody. Lol Ironically, my grandpa who recently passed sounded and looked like Randy in the face, and my grandpa's son (my dad) kinda has some facial similarities to George Jones. They even wear the same style shirts, which makes them look even more reminiscent.

It's funny that you should mention Randy's "country twang" because it took him quite a while to get a record deal back in the 1980s because record companies said that he was too country with the "twang". However, when he did get a deal and then released his first hit album he was embraced by the whole country community who saw him as the saviour of "real" country music. BTW, don't forget to check out Brad Paisley. He's great...and, if you like deep voices, listen to Josh Turner.
