Eloquent. Nailed it brother. Jacksons, Carpenters, Everly Brothers, Osmonds, Beach Boys/Wilson brothers. Some of the most talented families including the Carter's in country music. In many ways the Jacksons are the epitome of perfection. People forget how hard Mr. Jackson trained, practiced and pushed his sons every single day. What we are watching is the result of thousands of hours of hard work. It paid off but these boys suffered for their art. We get to enjoy their legacy on video and vinyl. I was lucky to be alive when they first made it big.

As an 11/12 year old The Jackson 5 abd The Osmond Brothers were at the top of my playlist. The music was fun but it was mostly because Michael Jackson and Donny Osmond were great singers who were only a bit older than me.

It's even better growing up watching the Jackson Five and Michael rising on his own, exposing all his talents. I got my first kiss to "I'll Be There". I was in a sports bar when I heard Michael passed away and I burst out crying like a baby. I felt like I lost a brother.

I remember listening to The Jackson Five on the radio as a child, and I remember watching The Jackson Five animated cartoon series on Saturday mornings on ABC, which featured some songs by the group. Later in the decade, The Jacksons had a short-lived variety show on CBS, to try to compete with “The Donny And Marie Show” on ABC. The Jacksons were, and are still, a great music group. Their work on “Dancing Machine”, “Can You Feel It?”, and “Torture” is proof of this statement.

My first concert ever was J5. It was about '74. Tavares was the opening act. The Jacksons came out wearing white jumpsuits with J5 belt buckles in electric blue. As you can hear, Michael's voice as a pre-teen & a teen sounded much different than his later career. Boy, he could belt as a teen--please listen to Never Can Say Goodbye ( if you haven't already). Also, if you've never seen them perform Dancing Machine, check it out--pretty sure it was on The Carol Burnett Show, they had on some cool green outfits

I always kinda felt bad for Jackie. He stood out so much for being the "adult" in the group from Day One, and because he didn't play an instrument or sing solos, he was always just dancing with Michael and Marlon when they were still little - which made him stand out even more for all the wrong reasons - like he was just "lucky to be there." He had to be SO HAPPY when Michael and Marlon got taller and the age disparities weren't so pronounced. At the same time, I just don't believe that Jackie would have independently pursued a career in music if he wasn't born into a family where his younger brothers took the lead - and there's nothing wrong with that; I don't think Janet would've done it either if her older siblings hadn't taken the lead (and her father all but forced her to do it). He seems to be a cool person though, and it had to be hard to be stuck with his little brothers almost 24/7 in his late teens/early twenties. An 18 year old guy doesn't normally want to hang out with his 10 year old brother ALL THE TIME. And on top of that, the annoying little brother was the darling of the world. It had to be just... ugh. It seems that all of the older guys (Jackie, Tito, and Jermaine) got married young primarily to get out of the family house and escape that dynamic.
@amontaineaurore47003 ай бұрын
My understanding is that Jackie was getting all the girls.
@KB-xp6dq3 ай бұрын
@@amontaineaurore4700 Maybe in the very beginning, (and then it was Jermaine), but he was still stuck with his little brothers (probably against his will). And he probably wanted to be doing other things as a teenager before there was any realistic hope that they'd be successful. MJ became the lead singer at 5; that would have made Jackie 12-13 when Joe started forcing them to practice almost nonstop. All of his teen years could have been caught up doing something he never wanted to do. I heard he really wanted to play baseball.

Don't you dare compare J5 to the Kardashians . They had talent, and the Kardashians are famous nobody's. We don't diss Jermaine he was supposed to be the lead singer of J5. He sings well as a young man here. He left the group to go solo. MJ asked to join, and at first, his parents thought he was too young. However, he had the pipes. Janet tried acting Good Times Different Strokes and Fame. She did have some mediocre hits before she had her initial successful solo album Control. Thanks to Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. This is 1969 or 1970. Janet is not a great singer, but she had good songs by 1986. Michael Jackson was a superstar by 1982. Randy was better fit than Jermaine because the songs were more mature. Technically, Berry Gordy wanted just Michael Jackson and replaced the brothers with Gordy's background singers. Papa Joe was like hell no. The brothers could dance play instruments but except for Jermaine and Michael could sing especially MJ. It's extremely hard to be a good child singer until adulthood especially as a male's voice matures. I wouldn't call them Kennedys They are the musical family period.
