This is his song too...his story too. He owns this great song from the moment he started to sing it....goosebumps from start to finish. Thank you for your insightful reaction and for honoring his legacy.

Great commentary. Thank u Loved the comment about Elvis going to another level above the ceiling. And speaking of presidents, Elvis' home Graceland is the second most visited home in the U.S. after the White House.😊

I don’t know if you are aware that this was the first international satellite broadcast ever and it was viewed by over 1 billion people. That night, Elvis Presley made music history.

I feel drained listening to him. I can’t imagine how he felt. It looks so easy for him. It seems whatever he sang, he did make the song his own. Thanks so much. Beautiful reaction. 😅❤❤
@carolhayar303729 күн бұрын
He certainly did make it look so easy, & then you see what he looked like afterwards, plus bp that shot up extremely high & you can see the toll it took on his body. That's because I don't think anyone ever put in to a performance what he put into it.

Utterly brilliant. You have taken the 'review' medium to another level. Perceptive and inciteful another great review of another great Elvis performance. Even after over 50 years I remain in awe of Elvis' innate ability to interpret and communicate aided and abetted by some of the most talented musians on the planet. Elvis Presley - I and so many millions of others salute you.

Really great detailed and interesting reactions. There is a video out there of Elvis and Frank Sinatra performing together on Frank's show.

Frank Sinatra called Rock n Rollers "cretins", reflecting the older generation's opinion of this what became the new popular music. On Elvis' return from the army, Sinatra shrewdly presented Elvis on tv - The "Welcome Home Elvis" Timex Special. And the respect and appreciation for Elvis continued through the years, right to the end. Sinatra was performing on stage when Elvis passed away. His words to the audience that evening were heartfelt: "There have been many accolades uttered about Elvis’ talent and performances through the years, all of which I agree with wholeheartedly." I shall miss him dearly as a friend. He was a warm, considerate, and generous man.”

This is a perfect version and Aloha from Hawaii is my all time fav Elvis concert but his 1977 live performance of this is just emotional and powerful, and then if you listen to his 1971/72 studio recording he takes it to another level again, what a performer

Mom was huge Elvis.. Dad huge Sinatra.. I love both.. grew up with them.. But Elvis, to me, did it better.. because this was his life. Sinatra was a crooner.. great voice.. Elvis had it all. That's just me

Nobody did it better than this.Sadly Elvis never really looked as good as this again but his voice never failed him to the end some 4 years later.He did a blistering version of this on his last TV appearance Elvis In Concert in 1977 just weeks before his death when he was ill and overweight.The King to the end.

I cry every time I see his last performance even though it aired on TV months after his death. That was his goodbye to all his fans and he put all his heart into it even though he was short of breath. Emends talent will never be another.❤😢

He and Frank became good friends. Frank even gave Elvis the use of his plane for his honeymoon. You should react to the 77 concert version of My Way.
@MarkRogersVOCFBАй бұрын
Elvis was a paradox in many ways. He conducted his life "his way." But he certainly didn't conduct his career "his way." For eight years he did movies he generally despised and he never toured the world which he wanted to do and discussed as early as his military days.

Love your reactions thank you😊 you speak such truth 70's Elvis is the one for me too the power in his voice and like you say the control is mindblowing. There is video footage of him and Frank Sinatra if that isn't already on your playlist
@MarkRogersVOCFBАй бұрын
He started in Vegas in July 1969. He focused on his vocals during Aloha. He didn't move around much. He abused his body (crash diet) to get ready for this show. It's a great show, but a low energy show compared to his early 70's shows and especially his earlier self. This show is the last great achievement of his career. As it details in Peter Guralnick's book "Careless Love" it was a free fall from here.

I missed this one. I'm having issues w-"notifications" that don't pop up but I do search. At any rate, another power-packed emotional one, not surprisingly. Background Info: The original song is the French song entitled "Comme d'habitude" by Jacques Revaux, Gilles Thibaut & Claude François. The English version (My Way) was by Paul Anka who re-wrote the original version for Frank Sinatra. Anka changed the lyrics & subtly altered the melodic structure. The original French song has nothing to do w-Paul Anka’s version as we know it, for the translation of "Comme d'habitude" meaning is “something that happens regularly” or “that isn't surprising.” There is a video of the original French version w-English subtitles entitled "Claude François Comme d'habitude French / English Lyrics Subtitles." Thx for another on-point reaction. I do believe he made every song his own, no matter who sang it w-a their own good voice, because it was Elvis who put in that powerful emotion that no one else did. It's been said that Sinatra’s daughter Nancy said Sinatra did not like the song to the point of hating it. Sinatra said it was "self-serving" but performed it many times anyway.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Elvis's version of this song, he really makes you feel it deep in your soul. The arrangement is fantastic too. I became a fan in the 70s so that's my favourite era. His voice just seemed to get better and better, and even when he was so ill at the end the power in his voice is incredible. Can't remember if I've given you any suggestions yet but some of my favourites are: Just Pretend, Just Can't Help Believing, The Wonder of You, Love Letters, Until it's Time for You to Go, Peace in the Valley, Suppose, It's Still Here (I could go on but I'll stop there!).

You have great comments yourself as always, it's very hard to add to what you say. Did you notice he moved forward a little at a time? The thing is Elvis could do what all singers did. But none could do ALL that Elvis done.

I Love Elvis's Version of My Way, I actually prefer it to Sinatra's, there is an earthiness, to Elvis's version, you can feel his life's story and pain in the words. I didn't get notified that you reacted to "My Way" until two days after you uploaded it and I am subscribed, with notifications on ! Just wanted to let you know. Love Your reactions, Thank You.❤❤❤

Thank you for another great reaction. Everything you said is so true and so well said. In 1957 Frank Sinatra wrote a short article for a French magazine on his thoughts about rock'n'roll and I quote: “My only deep sorrow is the unrelenting insistence of recording and motion picture companies upon purveying the most brutal, ugly, degenerate, vicious form of expression it has been my displeasure to hear-Naturally I refer to the bulk of rock ’n’ roll. “It fosters almost totally negative and destructive reactions in young people. It smells phony and false. It is sung, played and written for the most part by cretinous goons and by means of its almost imbecilic reiterations and sly, lewd-in plain fact, dirty-lyrics, and as I said before, it manages to be the martial music of every sideburned delinquent on the face of the earth … this rancid-smelling aphorodisiac I deplore. But, in spite of it, the contribution of American music to the world could be said to have one of the healthiest effects of all our contributions.” When Elvis was asked about his reaction to this, he is quoted as saying: “He has a right to his opinion, but I can’t see him knocking it for no good reason. I admire him as a performer and an actor but I think he’s badly mistaken about this. If I remember correctly, he was also part of a trend. I don’t see how he can call the youth of today immoral and delinquent. It’s the greatest music ever and it will continue to be so. I like it, and I’m sure many other persons feel the same way.” In my opinion, Frank only had Elvis on his show to welcome him home from the army in March1960 because he knew it would greatly help his failing ratings. A quote from Wikipedia says that when it was suggested to Frank that he made his fourth and final TV show a special to welcome Elvis home: "He accepted, aware that a Presley appearance would attract huge ratings for the hour, something that his three previous specials had failed to do."
@carolhayar3037Ай бұрын
I read this article or something almost exactly like it long ago so I know what you're referring to, & was not surprised at Sinatra's comments in the least, & yes, I think he agreed to have him on as a ratings booster for himself, just as Sullivan did, to increase his own ratings against Berle because Sullivan originally turned Elvis down but was incensed when Berle topped him.
