@@PinkPopcast in this movie universe Mr. Darcy knows well 😝
@thatgirlinautumn59953 ай бұрын
I love this concept, because Darcy is not written as a mean-spirited character but as socially awkward, that’s what leads to his occasional rudeness. He’s completely lost in Indian society here, which is understandable but ALSO makes for good conflict without painting anyone as particularly rude in nature. Love how much fun they had with this movie

@@thatgirlinautumn5995 exactly! That’s what I was saying when he first rejected dancing, but then came back to dance because that makes more sense than the original version in he just doesn’t dance period. Lol.

Дарси никогда не был подлым. Возможно, немного слишком гордым в начале истории, но никогда подлым.
@jaimicottrill28313 ай бұрын
But in P&P Darcy is rude, not socially awkward! The whole point of the book is that he thinks he is better than a lot of the country people that he has to hang with in Meryton, he is arrogant and thinks Elizabeth and her family are beneath him. But he is thought of well, he is a liberal master he is educated and it is pointed out in the book that he is easy with his "own kind". Trying to make Darcy socially awkward takes away a lot of his character arc in the book and also takes away Elizabeth's motivation for refusing Darcy in the beginning and then accepting him at the end. In the begimming of the book Darcy is an ass, but after being rejected by the women he loves he goes and thinks about her words and takes them seriously and takes steps to be kinder.
@IslesYankeeLady3 ай бұрын
@@jaimicottrill2831As usual, people who insist on staying only to source specific analysis completely miss the point of adaptation. It is NOT to copy the source. It does not always make for a good adaptation. It is to take inspiration from it. This movie is not even technically a production of Pride and Prejudice in screen or play form. It is clearly INSPIRED by Pride and Prejudice. Will Darcy is specifically not Fitzwilliam Darcy of Pemberly in Derbyshire. He’s Will Darcy, hotel magnate. I will never understand getting mad at artists doing their job and finding new creative interpretations of stories. They are artists. Not scribes. Why would we want it hamstrung by only one possibility? Do we go to every production of Hamlet expecting the actor to parrot the exact same line delivery? Of course not. Ergo, a film adaptation, especially a modern one, is free to portray what is right for its story. In the same vein, it’s a mark of how well constructed Austen’s work is that it is this adaptable. This Darcy lives in the early 20th century, not the 19th. He should react to his given circumstances and modern characteristics. Thinking he’s actually better than everyone is far worse today than in a society that was taught a social hierarchy.
@janicelaccay29263 ай бұрын
I guess the first misunderstanding in the movie was missed. Darcy didn't dance with Lalita the first time around because his pants was literally falling off! It was starting to fall off when Balraj made him dance with Lalita. He was trying fix it right before being introduced to Lalita and her family. He didn't want to say the truth as to why he really didn't want to dance. Then as he was leaving you can see his pants still sliding down his legs.
@PinkPopcast3 ай бұрын
😭😭😭 that’s so much nicer than just… hating to dance 😂
@janicelaccay29263 ай бұрын
@@PinkPopcast Yeah the set up for the misunderstanding was pretty good! If you re-watch it you realize that Darcy wasn't twirling awkwardly because he wasn't comfortable dancing but he kept on letting go of Lalita's hands to pull up his pants, lol! They did show Darcy talk with Balraj and Kira about how his pants keep on falling and even a guest was helping Darcy tie his pants but it probably didn't get fixed properly because then they were introduced to Lalita and her family. Darcy must of been squeezing his thighs for dear life to not let those silky pants fall down in front of a large party of people.

Actually, in the og Pride and Prejudice book Charlotte also knew or at least suspected Darcy had a thing for Elizabeth. She tried to tell her, but Lizzy just laughed at the idea and Charlotte thought it was better not to keep pressing the matter as to not give Lizzy false hope. This happened while Lizzy was visiting her after she got married to Mr Collins, and Darcy and colonel Fitzwilliam were visiting them often. There was a famous and successful stage adaptation of Pride and Prejudice by Helen Jerome (the old MGM movie claimed it as a source, without actually using it), and it reduced the Bennet girls to 3 -- Kitty is necessary for the story, and she could absorb a little of Lydia, and Mary was just gone.
@DelGuy03Ай бұрын
Also (2 months later) there's no double wedding in the book. A few of the (many, many) screen adaptations have added one, as a visual tie-up. Jane Austen actually doesn't give any dialogue for the final proposals (which are either unseen, or described in a general way), so that adapters have to do a lot of invention toward the end of the story.

No Life Without Wife gets regularly stuck in my head. Bride and Prejudice really is so much fun. There's a Bollywood movie called Dil Bole Hadippa which is pretty much the Indian She's the Man and it's my guilty pleasure.

Hi guys, the double wedding is a thing that happened in the book, so that's why a lot of adaptations have one.

First of all guys those shirts are gorgeous! Secondly if you really have enjoyed all the P & P adaptions then I strongly recommend you check out two miniseries, Lost In Austen(2008), Death Comes To Pemberley(2013).

Now that you're open to Bollywood, I'd love for you to check out 'Jab We Met'. It's a beautiful, funny road trip movie with good musical numbers and the screenplay is something even non desis can relate and understand. I might be biased because it's actually my favourite movie ever

Not sure if anyone else has already mentioned it, but if you want to keep the Pride & Prejudice train going I would recommend Lost in Austen. It IS a mini series, but very good fun!

Lost in Austen is so much fun! An early aughts London girl switches places with Elizabeth and messes up the story. The cast is fantastic and there are lots of great twists!

Gurinder Chadha the director of the movie also directed Bend it Like Beckham which i know you'll love and would love to see a vid for that one as well. For Bollywood movies, you'll definitely want to start off with something like Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham or Kuch Kuch Hota Hai these are considered classics of the late 90's and 2000's 🤍

Never in all my days did I think I'd see anyone react to Bride & Prejudice 🤣 I was introduced to this movie by my Jehovah's Witness 8th grade English teacher who made us watch it and write a two page essay on it and I feel that perfectly represents how particular this movie is 😭

Just so you realise… it is Bollywood tradition that there is no kissing shown between the love interests. Only embracing is allowed.
@PinkPopcast3 ай бұрын
We are new to all of this! That’s so fascinating to learn
@theoryofperfection47773 ай бұрын
Actually, that's only half true. There isn't necessarily a hard and fast rule that enforces the whole "No kissing, no sex on screen" in the Indian movie industry. This movie came out in 2004...several other Indian movies also came out during this time period (early 2000's) and also before it (early and late 90's) that had lots of kissing scenes and sex scenes as well. And no...there were no body doubles or anything like that. And in the current day, it's pretty common for Indian movies to have a kiss scene and more.
