Plus in the first movie when the kids told Hagrid about the sorcerer’s stone Hagrid told them to stop meddling. Then when they went to McGonagall she basically sent them to their room.

Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) is actually a really good actor. The "I didn't know you could read" was improvised because he forgot his line, but boy was it good! Lucius Malfoy kicking Dobby was also improvised, as was the "Let's hope Mr Potter will always be here to save the day" as well as Harry's reply, "don't worry, I will be"

Just think..the whole time Harry was sleeping in the closet under the stairs the Dursleys not only had a guest room but *2* bedrooms for Dudley. It's a 4 bedroom house. Tom Marvolo Riddle is Voldemort's birth name. He hated having the same name as his muggle father Tom Riddle. Marvolo was his wizard grandfather's name on his mother's side. He started using Lord Voldemort openly much later. Remember Hagrid saying in the first movie that he wasn't supposed to do magic? This is why. Tom Riddle framed 13 year old Hagrid and Aragog for Myrtle's death. Hagrid's wand was snapped and he was expelled from Hogwarts. Since he was an orphan Dumbledore arranged for Hagrid to live with the groundskeeper/gamekeeper and learn his job. No. Dobby went against the Malfoys to warn Harry about what Mr. Malfoy was planning. Now Dobby is completely free thanks to Harry. He's no one's servant (slave) anymore.

Ron and Hermione were writing Harry but Dobby took the letters. The reason why he kept hurting himself was because he was starting to talk ill of the family that he works for. That is what he has to do, or if he does something wrong, he has to punish himself by beating himself.

One piece of advice. Dont be afraid to pause the movie, and even rewind it 10 seconds to rewatch something if you feel like you missed something. The commentary as you watch is great, so definitely don't reduce it, just go back and rewatch the last 10 seconds if you missed something because you were giving some commentary. We wont mind and it will definitely help you follow along better, especially as the story starts to get more intricate.

Ron Weasley is actually the 6th out of 7 Weasley children. Bill Weasley is the first born. He graduated from Hogwarts and works in Egypt as a tomb curse breaker for Gringots Bank. Charlie Weasley also graduated from Hogwarts and works in Romania at a dragon preserve. Percy Weasley is a prefect student at Hogwarts. Fred and George Weasley are the mischievous twins. Ron Weasley is the last male in the family and is a second year Hogwarts student along with Harry and Hermione. Also fun fact, because the anagram for "I am Lord Voldemort" had to work in all different languages, Tom's name often changed in the translated versions of the book. In the Spanish version his name is Tom Sorvolo Ryddle (Soy Lord Voldemort). In French he's Tom Elvis Jedusor (Je suis Voldemort). My favorite bc its so ridiculous, is Danish, where he becomes Romeo G Detlev, Jr. (Jeg er Voldemort).

The easy way to know how old a student is in Hogwarts is that it almost matches the school year they are in. You first start attending Hogwarts at year 1 when you are 11 years old. Then year 2 when you are 12. Year 3 at 13 years old. Year 4 at 14 years old. Year 5 is 15 years old. Year 6 is 16. And then your final year at Hogwarts is year 7 when you are 17 years old. In the wizarding world you are considered an adult at 17 years old as apposed to the normal muggle world where an 18 year old is considered a legal adult. 🏰🪄🧙🏻‍♀️

In the books (a future movie) she explains her name is "Her-My-Oh-Knee" almost no one pronounces the O sound or when they do, its very quick. Not unlike my name most people dont pronounce the second O. Thats why I loved the golden girls. 😂

Welcome to the fandom I swear when I started the fandom the first movie was coming out and I got curious so I started reading the books it was up to book for at that time and I had to wait years for the next movies to come out in the next books to come out you in theory to get through the whole series in less than a week but to be fair these movies are kind of long to watch more than one in a day

2 minor details you may have missed: Harry used 'skelegro' to re-grow his bones. The patent on this is belongs to the Potter family: one of the sources of Harry's wealth. Also note the Cornish pixies (not spelling in Cornish! no 'x's) are blue. This is because of the folk tale that if you whistle down a Tin mine, the pixes will turn the Tin into another metal (Cobalt) which in the past wasn't valuable. Kobolt is the German word for pixie and the salts are usually blue!

When you go into the 3rd movie, you should know a few things like the actor who played Dumbledore died so they replaced him with a different one, the movie is way darker and has a new director as well. Also the actor playing Crabbe (Malfoy's guy) at some point stopped playing because he did something bad and had to go to the court. So when you see some people go away, now you know.

The thing about the Harry Potter books is that the author, JK Rowling originally wrote the series for adults. It was the book publishers that decided to advertise it as children's books. If you read between the lines of the story you will see it is a satire. First, one has to understand that you the reader are looking at the story through Harry Potter's point of view as he grows up throughout the years at Hogwarts. In the first book and movie Harry is 11 years old so you see his world from his 11 year old mindset and maturity. But as he grows up and begins to understand things more and more the story gets darker and less innocent as he matures with age. The reason I call the books a satire is that many of the stories deals with racism of a different kind and political corruption. Dobby might be a house elf but nevertheless he is a slave just the same. There might not be any racism in the wizarding world against people of color but there is racism against wizards who do not come from pure magical families. Harry doesn't see the horrible similarities between the wizarding world and the muggle world at this point because he is only 12 years old during The Chamber of Secrets. To a certain extent he is still an innocent little boy and is not mature enough to comprehend it all to the fullest extent. 🏰🧙‍♂️🧙🏻‍♀️🧒🪄⚡️📚📽🎞🖤

When these films (and books) originally game out, it was in pace of one per year...so us audience grew up along the characters and the story line, and yes, the story line did indeed turned into more darker and scarier as well. I'm glad to see you liking the 'magic'. For me the first film/book are always holding the special place as they were the introduction to the magical world and things to come. Third film is where things start really kicking up...this one is conditioning you for it.

The issue with getting Ron a new wand is that the Weasley family is poor and they have to support a whole bunch of kids. As a result Ron never got anything new in his life. Everything he owns are hand-me-down from his older brothers. That also includes his wand. It use to belong to one of his brothers. So at this point Ron has never gotten a new wand from Olivanders. The good news is that because Ron broke his wand he did eventually got a new wand of his own from Olivanders. But if I recall right from the books it was a difficult purchase for the family. But I might be remembering that part wrong. But being that the Weasley family is poor one could assume that a brand new wand couldn't have come cheap and easy to get. 🧑🏻‍🦰🪄

I'm not gonna lie....when I first saw the basilisk in this movie, I had the same reaction Ron had with Aragog. (side note: I am NOT fearful of snakes or spiders). Also, every time I hear Hermione say "She's a little sensitive" to describe Moaning Myrtle, I always have the same first thought: A LITTLE sensitive?" Side note: Hedwig is a snowy owl. They have white feathers with black spots that act as camouflage when they're hunting, their wing feathers are ruffled to muffle their wing flaps so prey animals don't hear them coming (like all owls, really) and they're the only birds in the world whose feet aren't bare, due to their habitat being snowy areas, like the Arctic Tundra.

Clothes, Schoolbooks**and new potions ingredients. * Not in any commonly known way anyway. **There were six more books than usual on the booklist, because Guilderoy Lockhart had put seven of His books on the book list instead of one textbook. Plus Ron felt rightfully ashamed, asking for a new wand, after "borrowing" and crashing the car, I suppose.

This is my personal favorite Harry Potter film, so I am excited to see you enjoying the journey so far. One thing I will say to clarify (and this is not a spoiler): Tom Riddle IS Lord Voldemort. Tom Riddle was Voldemort's name when he was younger, but he started getting into the Dark Arts and changed his name as he became more evil. Please keep going; I'm sure these movies are gonna draw you in deeper and deeper and your emotions will go on a roller coaster ride for real!

Slytherin gets a bad rap, but there are good wizards that come out of Slytherin too. Ron's assertion that "there wasn't a witch or wizard that went bad who wasn't in Slytherin" is categorically false. Quirrel was a Ravenclaw. There's another Voldemort supporter you'll meet a bit later who was a Gryffindor. The only house that hasn't produced any evil wizards (that we know of), is Hufflepuff. It's just that the traits that make a person a Slytherin (ambition, cunning, resourcefulness, pride), while good traits to have, can also easily lead people down a path of egotism and power-hunger.

Less like traits and more like core values. The Sorting Hat matches the student to the House by the values they hod in common. If you went by traits, you'd expect Hermione to have been sorted to Ravenclaw, the intellectual House. But as Hermione says in the first film, "Books and cleverness. There are more important things: friendship and bravery." Courage, fellowship, and loyalty are values of Gryffindor House.

Again though not many read Harry Potter new help tips, so if not read this its fine, but many things can spot easily through somewhat simple connections On this one you said basically a truth though it wasnt countered fully in it but you Spotted a truth in someones view of another. And sometimes the ones that think is for one , isnt exactly accurate, but see within ones actions, thus these tips and truth from the book. If read this, Rons wand cant be fixed wth wands are few things cant be fixed maybe .. 1 thing .. 1 thing only can fix a broken wand. Though the movies dont add it from the books, but that aside, Ron saved Hermione from Troll, Ron stood up when Malfoy called her a mudblood endured slugs to fight in her honor, and in the books Ron was more brave in the forest, though that was actually is FIRST time there was in the books Stones version book, Ron was in hospital wing with a dragon bite. When Ron was in the spiders he faced his biggest fear, and said lets go do it Harry for Hermiones sake, looking back at castle. So Saved her from Troll #1 #2 fought her honor got slugged for it #3 went in to spider area to face his bigest fear in honor of Hermione to get her saved and others ... those id leave you with ..
