I am also a new grad dev, but not at a big company. It's been 6 months since I started my job and honestly a 9-5 really makes you appreciate the rest of the day so much. I'd highly suggest developing a good routine when the workload is light, a lot of my friends, including myself, ended up doom-scrolling after our work hours, I have been trying to break that cycle and start a routine relaxation time.

Please keep recording! Your video helped me with the anxiety I’ve been feeling since tomorrow is my first day as a frontend developer! I’m super excited and nervous at the same time. Your video eased some of my overthinking and fear of the unknown. You’re still about 10 days ahead of me in this journey, so please keep going! 😄 Love from Serbia

Congrats! you look truly excited about what life is giving you and this spreads good vibes, I want to give some advices about not burning out in 2 years like many SWE : 1) do breaks: every 50 minutes take 10 minute and get some fresh air or some water (maybe avoiding social media) 2) do not work too much just because you feel like you should, amazon will survive anyway 3) make connections with people from other departments 4) ask me for a tool to help with this good luck!

Good for you for recording this and sharing your experience. I totally get the idea of "oh this is for the next 30 years", but I've been in tech for 2 years, and I'm still adjusting everyday to new things and learning so I think it's a journey, but hey I don't really know either. I think it's smart you're opening up and sharing, I hope I can do that more, but you're doing A-okay!

Hey. this reminded me of my first day at Amszon 3years ago. I never filmed it but I wish I could've. I had the same energy almost. The first day I was coding for a internal hackthon till 9pm. so.. xd But I learnt a lot and I wouldnt trade it for anything/ Just dont forget to take care of mental health and its not supposed to be your next 30 years unless you want it to. I left 2 years in for studying and more. Enjoy though, being a new fte just feels so good and is once in lifetime phase!!!

Wow! That was such a great video. I really like your style of storytelling. I think it is good for your career to be on site all the time. Especially in the beginning. I have learnt so much on my first five years of work and I did not do any home office at all (except the covid lockdowns). This way I had the chance to learn a lot from my colleagues. Now I work for another company and I do home office three times a week. While thats pretty comfortable for me I do not learn that many new things anymore and I dont think that I would have learnt that much even if I was at an earlier stage of my career. While it is nice that you are saying that you will work the next 30 years at amazon please dont put your career and amazon over your self. There could be some great opportunities for change at some point in the future. I love that you are a Beard meets Food enjoyer. I love Adams videos as well 😂

Hi. Can you tell me how is the work culture and if you have to work on multiple projects and complete tasks by the end of the day or week etc. For instance, if you learnt Java, JavaScript and Python etc do you have to work on 3 different projects with multiple features all in one day as Python involves data analysis and machine learning, Java is to do with back end services and JavaScript using React or Vue is to do with front end user facing features and node js for back end. I find it difficult to learn and code in multiple programming languages simultaneously and do you have to be fluent in all these languages to code and complete the given tasks? I am surprised if you can handle so much pressure at such a young age.
