You can see that Dan & Linda were being assholes by not giving her the China. Betty was pushed too far. Either side could have stopped this ,seeing that it would not end well. Biggest losers in this are the kids. if for no other reason, I wouldn't kill my kids father for their sake.

Linda did some pretty dumb shit! Like sending notes like "Eat your heart out Bitch!". Refusing to hand over the China, which would have smoothed things over. She was a complete homewrecker alongside Dan, and neither cared about the damage it did to Betty or the kids. Kids coming down with Lice, Kids not having clothes to wear, so Betty had to use here Alimony to pay for stuff. Dan using Tax law to screw Betty out of any and every liquid asset available. He also was so scuzzy he devalued what his practice was worth so he didnt have to pay Betty its true value. Dude was a complete sleeze, but even so, Six thousand a month is enough to live off of. The problem is divorce law was not in her favor. Instead of restitution checks, she should have gotten everything as a lump sum. Her representation was incompetent, and was awful at arguing crime of passion during her 2nd trial. Not to mention one jurist didnt even know sentencing her to 2nd degree could result in life behind bars, and said post trial she would have hung the jury knowing that, so that would be 2 hung jury's in a five year span. Betty Broderick is a simple case of the Law not protecting domestic engineers. Dan Broderick would have never made it as an attorney without the help of Betty, she put food on the table and a roof over their heads, without knowing whether or not Dan would even graduate, or get disenchanted with Law like he did medicine. The defense was awful.
@dustinbarlow1623

@@christinehutchins123 What I never understood was the defense not pushing the fact that Betty made Dan! Dan was a wish washy college student who had no direction till he met Betty. She brought him stability. Financially and emotionally. They failed to argue that she financially supported him through med school and law school not even knowing if he would graduate, then when Dan complained about work, she emotionally supported him and brought up that he should create his own practice. The defense should have put the squeeze on Dan to prove he would have been anything without Betty. The Following are irrefutable facts. 1) When Dan met Betty he had no clue what he wanted to do in life except possibly be a doctor, while Betty was successful in her own right attending Notre Dame and working on the side. 2) Dan coerced Linda to quit school and her job so Dan could go to medical school, had her pay for all the food and housing during that time, and also forced her to be his study partner 3) Dan Quit medical school and decided to go to Law School, most sane women would have said I am done with you! You have no clue WTF you want to do in life and I am not supporting you! Betty stuck on and supported him through Law School, and bought all his clothes for him. 4) Dan was a promising attorney tired of the political drama of climbing the ranks, ran into a career roadblock and Betty brought up he should start his own practice, and even mentioned you are willing to risk losing everything for me to do this? She said emphatically Yes! All I need is you and this Family. Thats what is important to me. 5) Dan starts his business, hires a younger looking version of Betty and the affair ensues! Its an absolute fact Dan would be nothing without Betty Broderick. In fact one could argue he needed her to achieve success, and when he didnt need her for that he left her dry.

@@valerierodger7700 I’m glad more people are catching on, and realizing she isn’t the victim she wants to be. After educating myself on this case, it’s obvious Betty was never going to be happy with anything he did. She drove him into Linda’s arms in the first place. She was always a lunatic. I also hate that she feels she won in her head. She doesn’t mind staying in jail, as long as she knows Linda and Dan aren’t enjoying life together; and most of the public is on her side. In her head, she won. That’s the saddest part. Everyone feels sympathy because they only heard her side. She killed the other side to the story so it can never be truly told.

Pretty nerve wracking that when Dan moved on, remarried, he still held shared property with his divorced first wife, she could not be sure he wouldn’t sell her home out from under her. Even today, putting yourself in her shoes.. it would make you pretty upset and so hurt. Especially knowing what was sacrificed those first years of the marriage for Dan’s future financial success- and when it is finally achieved and all should be well, he loses interest in his ‘old’ wife and upgrades to a younger one who doesn’t have to endure the sacrifices or birth and raise the children.. Old wife watches while new wife gets to enjoy what took years to accomplish, including being ‘friends’ with their children. Old wife is put on an allowance, none of the local attorneys want to touch your divorce case and definitely don’t want to fight it, all your mutual ‘friends’ are now friends with the new wife.. on and on 😔 I would be getting serious counseling, self-care, spiritual guidance.. any and everything to help heal that kind of hurt. I have zero clue how she was as a person and a partner, and absolutely 100% do not condone what she did. Just looking at her situation as the ‘ex-wife’.

@@frozenboot68 He was complete ass, if you look at younger Betty and Linda, he dumped the old model and went to a younger model. Younger Betty looked just like Linda. Dude was going through a mid life crisis, bought a sports car when he said he never would get one, lied to his wife about an affair. Took his time finding ways to liquidate all his assets and tying it all into the company after his company was valued, which in all honesty is devaluing your business with the intent of not giving your wife shit, as you lie to her about an affair. Dude went away and said he just needed some time to himself, then liquidated all their bank accounts, and again tied it to his business after it was appraised. The Dude made 2 million a year, but his assets alone alongside the business were worth 10 million. The problem is that Lindas husband was the head of the San Diego Bar, whether she had great representation or not, the judge was his friend. They'd go get drinks together. I wouldnt even be shocked if the judge helped him find ways to screw Betty. Dan was worth 10 million, and the best Linda could come up with was 28K in lump sum payments and restitution checks of 6k a month that would end if she remarried! Dude screwed her before the marriage and after the marriage. Ive known some POS in my lifetime, but this takes the cake. John Meehan wasnt even this bad.

Betty Broderick is no victim. The children are. Dan and Linda are. Not Betty. She's a cold blooded murderer. She dropped her kids iff to him one by one. It backfired on her. She lost them. She used her kids just like she used everyone else in her life. If you didn't agree with her then she thought you was on Dan's side . The woman is very sick. Even today she believes she did no wrong. It shouldn't matter about anything else except that she murdered 2 people. Please don't forget that. Her own daughter even said that her mom lied on her Dad and people shouldn't look up to her mom for that. I agree 💯. I feel bad for the children in all of this. I've seen very few people say anything about the kids. It's all Oh I feel for poir Betty Broderick. Please. She knew exactly what she was doing. And I believe she planned it. I knew a "Linda" back in the 90's. She was a doctor but wanted to be an actress/model/singer. When that didn't pan put she went after musicians. She eventually married one but would spend her time complaining about his womanizing. Never mind that he was married to wife number 3 at the time she met him. He would later come home from touring to find her dead on the bathroom floor from an OD. Seems they had also been into drugs like heroin and coke. She was being investigated by the DEA and her state's medical board for her prescription writing patterns for her patients. She had no morals just like Linda.

Live in La Jolla and followed this case as it was happening. To answer the question of why the defense attorney asked Brian Forbes if he was Irish...Dan Broderick was deeply involved with The Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick, a fraternal group still active today that exists to drink and play up their "Irish roots." (They also occasionally raise money for a charity or cause.) The FSOSP membership included many attorneys and a few judges. The defense attorney asked the question to establish a possible bias of the witness Forbes, i.e., You're Irish, too, and sympathetic to Dan. Elizabeth's entire defense was that she was fucked over by the San Diego legal fraternity in her divorce and was so frustrated she resorted to breaking into her former husband's house to "make him listen." In fact, she was awarded a very, VERY adequate monthly spousal and child support payment but felt deep humiliation at Dan's desertion of the marriage. Instead of moving forward in her own life and circumstances (as so many people do when faced with the dissolution of a long marriage), she chose to continue with extreme animosity in all her dealings with Dan. While not minimizing the trauma resulting from Dan's adultery and desertion, Betty behaved abominably. She stated many many times her sole focus was her children yet her grotesque behavior and vulgar language toward their father created a miserable environment for them. She was sanctioned by the court for her antics.
@leigh231
@leigh231 3 жыл бұрын
Asking a seemingly 'non-relevant' question often gets the jury thinking, or involved emotionally, via a bias on the jurors' parts... Sneeeaaakiness, was on both of the attorneys' agendas, this whole trial. 'Over-ruled' & 'Sustained' are just words uttered, while everyone takes all in. Very interesting to see it all play out, but sad overall, for the victims & the families (Dan & Linda, Betty & the kids 💖, of course) --- Let's just hope that society has learned something from this entire play-out. Fingers & toes crossed. No human is perfect. Lawyer, murderer, wife or husband, judge, detective, etc.

Her entire life was “his wife” and “their Mother”. That’s who she was. It doesn’t justify her actions at all. She could’ve picked herself back up and moved forward. I think she just felt so used, angry…her entire life, his dreams were her dreams, his wants were her wants…any woman out there can understand what she felt…at least I know I can. Betty wasnt a monster! And its not weird. Imagine if your husband told you he needed time away while denying an affair, had his business appraised with the intent of knowing he was going to serve his wife, then after the appraisal came in he sold all their properties and liquidated all their accounts but one which was in her name, and then tied it into all the liquidated assets to his company after the appraisal was done, what the guy did was damn near illegal. Dude devalued his business with the intention of screwing over his wife, then knew he would owe her money from it, then put all their mutual assets into his company to make up for the losses he would be owing Betty, and still came out 5 million on top after paying Betty her settlement of a whopping 28K, then goes to screw her over more by getting the judge to rule that he no longer even has to pay her 6K a month if she remarries. Dude screwed her over before and after marriage. She couldnt marry Brad because of the money situation. Its not weird, extremely tragic! The fact Dan went this deep into screwing over a wife that put his ass through college speaks volumes of his character. Juror number 7 in the first trial said the following " Im shocked she didnt kill him sooner!" Show me a lawyer with a conscious and Ill show you the number zero!

@@dustinbarlow1623 I totally agree .. this Dan was a piece of poop .. he took away Betty’s whole identity and just expected her to shut up and go away. Betty needed vindication of some kind .. she wasn’t getting emotional vindication so she should have, at least, gotten monetary vindication - but she was denied that too. The divorce judge did her wrong .. Dan drove her to use her voice - it’s the only thing she had left after he raked her over the coals in every way possible. The system failed Betty.

@@macintosh7169 She couldnt remarry or else the money stopped. So all she could do was date. Dan had her over a barrel. Divorce law has completely changed because of this case. What kind of POS devalues their business so they can screw over their wife, while lying to their face about an affair? Apparently Dan Broderick is one of those tools.

Selfish she killed him? Are you High? She paid for all his clothes, food and shelter when he decided he wanted to be a Doctor, then when he decided he wanted to be a Lawyer, she continued to support him even through that process, whats to say he wouldn't want to change from being a Lawyer to something else? Dude was a Scheister before he even met Betty. Told her he wouldn't support her finishing college at Notre Dame, and that she needed to focus on work and supporting him and his dreams. Keep in mind this is NOTRE DAME!! that's a freaking prestigious school that not just anyone can get into. Then the dude starts his law practice which was Bettys idea according to friends and family, and he starts it off by hiring a 23 year old woman who has no experience at anything in life who looks just like a younger version of Betty, and pays her 35K a year, honestly to just sleep with him. The Affair takes off then Dan decides its time to use legalese to screw Betty out of Money. He lies to her and says he isnt having an affair, and just needs time to himself. While that is going on he gets his company appraised , then after the appraisal comes in he liquidates his accounts and sells all the family properties and ties into his business, knowing if he did this, that Linda couldnt touch the mutual asset money, and the money out of the business is all he would owe her. This whole time she was blindly trusting him, thinking everything was ok. Then all of a sudden he comes back, tells her is having an affair, tells her he did sell the properties and liquidated the assets because he does want a divorce, and told her he would be serving her. Then the judgement comes in, the judge said the appraisal for the business was kosher even though it smelled of company devaluation, but Betty could never prove it. Then the judge in fact said Betty owed Dan money. So after the final judgement she got 28K, while Dan made 5 million by selling the properties and tieing it to his business. Then the shot to the nuts was when the judge said Dan only owes her 6k a month and it ends when she remarries. LOL Linda and Dan were killed only 6 months into their marriage. LOL he didnt have time to change his will! I promise you the kids would have gotten nothing if the marriage went on, especially if he and Linda had a kid. Dan was a scumbag.

I used to feel sorry for Betty, but alot of women have been done wrong and don't resort to what she did.... and that was a brutal slaying of two people, one being the father of her four children'; with that being said she should have just moved on, but instead chose to be a victim of mostly her own devices; it seemed like the more she bothered them the more it bothered her! I saw the photos of Dan and Linda and that was awful and nobody deserves that! I just wish Dan had listened to his friend when she suggested that he and Linda might want to move away due to the threats Betty was making, but I think she had made threats all thru their marriage and he just thought that's all they were was her big mouth again; I wish they would have been more secure, especially when they knew the key that Kim had was missing. You will never convince me that this murder was not premeditated; she bought the gun learned to shoot it stole the keys from her daughter and went to their house knowing they'd probably be asleep and blew these two people away!!!
