Your buffalo at 7:10 and 7:40 were common carp. You can tell the difference for certain because carp have barbels (whiskers) and buffalo don't. They tend to be different colors too, but there is some overlap.

Bottom fish with a sliding egg sinker in those little ponds later in the day and you will catch catfish, mostly bullheads. Use corn and get carp. Most bigger fish, catfish at least, will go back into the river before the ponds get cut off. Catfish usually bite best after dark. The one channel cat you caught was awesome. I would have filleted it and fried it up for supper... yummy.

If you want to catch bait fish in a trap, just bait it with bread. It won't last long but gets results. We used to catch kellies in Long Island in a milk bottle (yes they were glass) tied to the end of a string. Caught a ton of bait that way.

Use sliding sinker on the line for finding structure and depth and tie a hook off at the end of the main line with a bobber attached to the hook. Cast and drag and when you feel something catch release the line by hand off your reel to the first eye on the pole (measure from reel to eye on pole beforehand" and count how many times you have to do that before the bobber pokes up and that give you depth and structure

I caught my PB after some record floods in South Carolina in like a 30 by 10 foot retention pond that was more weeds than water, surprising the places you can find big fish. I think it may have been connected by a pipe to a bigger lake, though, as it was raised up on a hill above the lake.

Set your minnow trap the night before in a small creek where you can see lots of bait fish and use bread sometimes it's best to leave the trap out of the water because your bait floats and they'll just pick at it through the trap instead of going into the trap
