LoJo, us “old timers”’ that just turned 50 have a challenge for you. Please, get on eBay and buy some tackle (Reels, rods, lures) from late 80’s - early 90’s (even the 60’s man) and see how it stacks up to today’s gear that has been R&D’d and designed using modern computers. My buddy swears that the old stuff is better than today’s far superior gear. Please keep valued price points similar. I think this is a genuine challenge for you!

The best cheap baitcaster reel at Wal-Mart is the Quantum Pulse. $36.00. Put power pro 20 pd braid moss green color on it. Your good to go! I have had this reel for two years. Never let me down. Put it on a Berkley Cherrywood medium heavy bait caster rod. For $29.00 online at Wal-Mart. You have a great combo. For cheap! Try it! Shawn

I had the same exact reel last year . Worked fine all season , no problems at all . Worked as well as my black max . Last week I bought an ozark baitcast Reel , the green one For $ 30 . Right out of the box the thumb stuck . Keep on doing it so I took it back and tried another one . Didn't even take it out of the package . Pushed the thumb button , same thing . Crap canned that idea and bought a $ 35 Shakespeare combo . To bad it's still winter.

1. I have a Granite spinning reel. It does pretty darn good. Got it at...you guessed it...Walmart.2. I live in South Georgia and the fishing is tough right now too. I feel your pain. But, I caught one today. Super windy as a storm was coming in and I got it on a spinnerbait. 3. I don't have any real tips for you but I have a question. Why 50lb braid? And why use flouro if braid works? I know because it is harder for fish to see-but I really don't think they care. I use 30lb braid on one of my baitcasters and 17lb flouro on the other (only have 2 since I'm kind new to bass fishing), But I prefer the braid any day. Just my 2 cents. Keep the vids coming.

Ardent arrow at big country sporting goods don't even consider anything else it's only a few bucks less than $5cheaper than this reel $33 or so it's only more from $6.99 s&h or it would be the same price as this would with tax make sure to get the 6.3.1 model and don't get the flipping reel with no flipping switch or level wind if you accidentally order it it ain't got a level wind and you won't be able to cast it the 7to1 model will cost around $50 or so I had this reel for nearly a year and ain't tried it yet but it looks like a winner it's the economy version of the ardent arrow grand DONT advertise it like these channels so they won't jump the price like they doubled them on Becker bk survival knives it was the best survival knife around for $50 until that is nfo flooded KZbin immediately went to the best knife for $100 if you don't cause this with the ardent arrow economy reel you can keep getting them for about $40 a piece and build an arsenal of 5 if them if you save your money they LOOK AMD FEEL as good as a lower end economy Shimano but much more buttery smooth that's from the ardent reel butter grease people condemned them on KZbin because the reel butter will collect debris and it will start clacking but somebody on KZbin showed with an ardent arrow grand version all you have to do is take the left side plate off(without dropping it in the fuckin river like reel test with his Mr roboto' curado DC reel) I've guessed not using ardent reel butter would lessen debris also but it shows on KZbin ardent arrow grand all you have to do is take off the side plate and clean the trash flecks out with a qtips and good to go in 3minutes.most Walmart and other reviews condemn the reel for the clacking and failure after short use cause they don't know how to or even too clean it I think don't put reel butter in any part of a reel you caint open to clean yourself(removable side plate) 3in one oil works fine tri flow almost sure to work even better never put clp brand or any other "CLP"OR G96 OR OTHER TRIPLE ACTION OR rem oil in a fishing reel no clp or triple action anything I gummed my revo with them oil

I think it would be really cool to do a blindfolded lure challenge, but here's the twist. Starting at one end of the aisle, you have a stranger pick 3 numbers between 1 and 10 (maybe 15). So lets say they choose 1, 5, and 10. You take one step, turn to the lures, pick something out. Then, you take 4 more steps, making 5 total steps, turn and choose something again. Obviously the same with 10. I don't know. I think it could be pretty interesting.

You must have got a defective reel. I was given one of these by a friend of mine who bought one of these reels and couldn't lern to use it. I offered to teach him how to use it , but he did not want to. So I took it not knowing what he had paid for it. I assumed it was a much more expensive reel and did not know it was the cheapest baitcast reel Wal - Mart sold till I saw this video. The reel I have is identical to the one in the video. It performs flawlessly and casts as smooth as butter. I have had less problems with backlashes with this reel than with some of the reels that cost $200 or more. I used for catfishing one trip out just to see how it would do on a big fish. I caught a channel cat over 20 lbs and worked perfectly. The drag was smooth and it brought the fish in with no problems. I have never had the reel not trip the cast button back after turning the crank. I have used this reel for bass fishing and it has done very well. I use 50 lbs braid on it with a florocarbon leader. For bass I use a 20 lbs leader. For muskies and heavier bass lures I use a 50 lbs leader. I have used 80 lbs leaders for muskies , but find I get more bites / muskies on a long 50 lbs leader ( I make myself). I caught a very fat healthy muskie on this reel and worked great. Strong fish that fought very hard because the water is still cold. He pulled drag off the reel twice and I have it set pretty tight so I can get good hooksets. The drag was really smooth and the reel worked as well as any of my way more expensive reels. I can't believe this reel is only

as far as cheap reels are concerned, i think shakespheare alpha low profile is probably as cheap as you're going to get. everything is plastic, including the spool. i got one on clearance for $9 for rod and reel combo. Rod's ok, reel is surprisingly castable, but i'm pretty sure it won't last more than 2 trips before it falls apart.
