Plastic works!! lol Love the fried mushroom accompaniment!!! We only have a handful of restaurants around here that do fried mushrooms tho more should!! I love yellow perch too you are right so buttery tasty! Great camera angles! That comment about looking for the parents had me in stitches! I'm Utah bond on Saturday! New adventures await! Have a fun, relaxing, enjoyable weekend Pops! Tonight my dad requested seafood enchiladas. Wish me luck! lol

Hi Ty! Yes, a tiny piece of plastic convinced me that fish are really dumb! 😁 These fried mushrooms weren't thickly coated like some are, but oh wow, they were so GOOD! I know you and your lady love fried mushrooms . You'd both like these. The fried fish were delish too. I got lucky with this recipe. Yes, your Utah trip comes Saturday! Yay!!! Will you be taking your van and the pups too? I know you're looking forward to it. The snow should be gone from the mountains by now, right? Or maybe not yet? Have a super great fun and safe trip! Keep in touch! Thanks for stopping by and leaving the really nice comment my good son!

Oh my gosh Miss Lulu you crack me up. Wow 53 years. You guys are meant for each other. Hopefully now your getting better spring weather for fishing. The fried fish and mushrooms look sooooo good. I’ll have to look into the LC breading. I wonder if it’s also Gluten Free. Sorry I’m behind my friend. We went to Cape Cod last week. It was nice to get away for 4 days. Chris knows just what I need to bring me peace. Chemo has been real hard on me lately. 😔. Hugs to you both. Love always 🤗🐟🐟🐟🐟
@Juanelo19465 жыл бұрын
Hi Brenda! So nice to see you again! Spring has finally sprung here, and the fish are starting to bite a bit better. This meal was a real winner. I can't wait to make it again because both the mushrooms and fish turned out crispy outside and tender inside. Somehow Carbquik "flour" is made from real flour, but is mostly protein, So I doubt that it's gluten free. But there will be gluten free recipes in the future. I'm happy that you had a little respite from the Chemo when you traveled to Cape Cod. I remember it. It's one of the places we went to on our honeymoon in 1969! It was so nice. Chemo must be utterly miserable. I'm so, so sorry that you have to endure it. Our thoughts are with you every day! Say hello to Chris for us. All the best to you both!

Hey, Juanelo! In spring, smaller lakes will often be better fisheries than larger lakes because they warm a little faster. And the rain effects water clarity less, in my experience. What an amazing fishing trip! From shore, no less! You are a lucky guy, '46. The recipe looked great! At a kitchen store, you might be able to find a frying basket that will fit inside the one you have. You could set it over the mushrooms to hold them under oil next time. Awww. Miss Lulu was merciless tonight! Don't worry. I'm sure she'll be back to her charming self next week!
@Juanelo19465 жыл бұрын
Hi Ted! Yes, the little pond does warm faster! I think though, that in this case, the reason I could catch fish in the little pond was that it has NO runoff. The only water source is the rain falling directly on to it. So it's clear! The big lake, by contrast, is fed by a small creek. It's a reservoir, and boy does it get muddy during high water and a lot of rain. Wow, what a great idea!! I would have never thought of getting a second smaller fry basket to hold the mushrooms under! I love it! Ouch! Ms. Lulu's zinger hit hard, but I think she was just teasing me! LOL! She'll be back for sure! Thanks for stopping by and leaving the very nice comment my friend!

Let's see , Lake Ketchabigwon is flooded and muddy, like most bodies of water here in Kentucky, so you stroll on up to Little Ketchabigwon and it produces an assortment of fish. Throw in a boat house cameo, a few geese cameo, Miss Lulu, and a slow motion knife flip. How can all the other youtube channels compete with that? Great video and congrats on 53 years.

You cracked me up when you hollered SHUT UP to those geese! i thought only aussies said that? I thought Americans "hush"? In my time living in the South, I always got strange looks whenever I said shut up to the dogs/stepchildren when they going nuts. (LOL). Keen to try this, it looks SO yum. No bisquick/carbquick here so i'll have to improvise. Almond flour? All your recipes turn out great. I love them. Thanks so much for all your efforts... and entertaining us into the bargain!!! PS loved Miss Lulu's comeback!!
@Juanelo19465 жыл бұрын
Hi again, Marilyn! Hahaha! I grew up hearing "shut up" every day here! "Hush" was too mild a word for my family! Actually I think shut up is far more common than hush. Maybe the English say hush a lot? I dunno! 😁 It's a pity that there is no Bisquick or Carbquik there. If you have any kind of pancake mix, I would guess it would work the same. I use almond flour a lot, and I think that it would work well with this recipe. The secret is not so much the type of flour, but the deep fryer. Deep frying seems to make everything crispy and delicious! • Hahaha, Ms. Lulu really got me good here! Once again, thank you immensely for your visit and especially for your kind words my dear friend! All the best to you and yours!

Hi Dan! Yes, this fish sure looked like a green sunfish. So I looked at the catalog from the place I ordered the fish. Hi Mega! Yes, I'm now sure that you're correct. When I had the pond stocked in 2012, Jones Fish Hatchery undoubtedly threw in some hybrid sunfish along with the bluegill, bass and perch. Hi BBBY! You are never late to watch my video. You're always simply "welcome!" We all have real life to deal with so I understand. The fried fish and mushrooms turned out even better than I had hoped. The breading device is still available. After making the video, I looked up the name, "Cajun Flip N Fry," and it's still found online . Others like it are available on amazon. I guess my "get firm" tactic with Miss Lulu backfired, huh? Terrific show, John! Lake Lil' K (K2) was on fire! That tiny panfish jig (piece of plastic - ha!) was just the right size and color for the stained water. It really was interesting to see the coloration of those bluegill; they were sure beautiful. I don't know if they were hybrids or not, but the striking green/yellow color combo was most likely the result of the water's color and their surrounding environment (grass, etc). They weren't green sunfish (sometimes called largemouth perch) but they sure were beauties. I recently fished a pond where the coloration of the bluegill was also astonishing (spoiler alert - ha, ha). Oh, BTW I'm using the yellow Mr. Crappie line on my light rigs for the stained (Mamma Nature's muddy) spring water this year and find it really helps to visually detect the little taps and line movement after the fish grabs the lure. Your Carbquik recipe was really good and both the mushrooms and fillets looked delicious. Miss Lulu agreed and gave dinner a rave review. She's so lucky to been able to feast, slurp, gobble and passionately polish off 53 years of your magnificent recipes. However...attempting to put your foot down simply wound up in finding your foot in a place it doesn't belong! What a great show, start to finish and a wonderful way to start the week. Looks like it isn't raining today, for a change, and temps will be warming up tomorrow. Hopefully the waters will clear up a bit and things like yard mowing can get accomplished. All the best from Jefferson City from your fiends, Don, Brenda & Lorraine
@Juanelo19465 жыл бұрын
Hi Don! Thank goodness for Little Lake K! The water there is always much clearer than in the big lake because it's up on a hill and receives almost no runoff (no flotsam and jetsam either!). We stocked the little lake with bluegill, bass and yellow perch from Jones Fish Hatchery in 2012. So, I was studying their catalog. They offer hybrid bluegill. The pictures in their catalog, as well as the photos I found from other sources online, make me fairly sure those two beauties were hybrid bluegill-sunfish. It seems that several hybrids got thrown into my bluegill order. Those visual clues are sometimes all you get when a bluegill takes the bait. I see that the lure suddenly stops dropping before it ought to, or the line twitches ever so slightly. If I pull back, it's often a nice fish! In the end, I was lucky to capture enough fish for a great fish fry and mushroom dinner. The Carbquik breading was outstanding! If only my latest "get firm" approach with Ms. Lulu didn't have such deflating results, it would have been a perfect day! 😆 Now, if only the incessant rain would stop and the temperatures climb a bit, this next weekend might finally mean easier fishing, right? I have to hire a guy to do my grass cutting. It became too much for lazy me! Thanks for stopping by and leaving the great comment my friend! All the best to you, Brenda, and sister, Lorraine! - - John & Jeanne

You cracked me up when you yelled at the geese. 🤣🤣 I noticed that you have a windmill there. Does it actually pump any water? Your breading mixer looks like it would make a lot bigger batches than Booger's would. You could have a huge fish fry with yours. Those mushrooms looked better than any I have had in a restaurant before. Ms. Lulu had a fun time with today's joke. She was smiling before you even started then she was smiling and laughing while she was delivering her lines. It always makes me happy when she is enjoying the "scene". Hugs to you both.
@Juanelo19465 жыл бұрын
Hi April! That is a windmill to pump air to a bubbler on the bottom of the lake. The bubble activity produces oxygen. It's suppose to help the fish thrive. My neighbor talked me into it. I don't know what fish did to survive all these millions of years before aerators! 😆 I never thought of that, but you're right, this breading mixer is about the biggest I've seen. I'm gonna have a fish fry probably on Memorial Day for Ms. Lulu and her culinary arts students. I could use it then! I was amazed too! These mushrooms were only lightly breaded, not like the double coating they do so often in restaurants, yet they were exquisite! I took a chance using the fish breading on the mushrooms, but it worked! Hahaha, she was smiling but my heart was breaking with her zinger! Not really... I knew she was just reciting her lines. LOL! Thanks immensely for visiting us and for you kind words my dear friend! Love and hugs from us to YOU!
@PidasianHippie5 жыл бұрын
@@Juanelo1946 I have seen many ponds with aerators but didn't know that you could use a windmill to produce the oxygen. It is amazing that nature managed to exist before mankind got involved to "improve" the situation. Don't worry. I am not going to go all "Hippie" on you here. 😁 Your breading mixer should make your Memorial Day Soiree a hit. Ms. Lulu's students should love those mushrooms. Can you believe that Memorial Day is almost here? Where has the year gone? Hahahaha
@Juanelo19465 жыл бұрын
Hahaha, you can go hippie on me! I frankly can't see any difference before the aerator and after. The fish look the same to me! I shouldn't have let my neighbor talk me into that thing. Ah, except it's nice to know which way the wind is blowing! We went right from cold, rainy, almost-winter, to too warm! There wasn't much of a spring here. The year has gone too fast! Let's all slow down! 🤗
@PidasianHippie5 жыл бұрын
I think we had about 2 weeks of spring this year. Like up there, it stayed cold and rainy way up into April and now it is going to be in the 90s this week. That is fine with me. I can handle the warmth much better than the cold. I thought retirement was supposed to be all about slowing down. That has not been the case. I am much more active than I was when working. At least now I am living purposefully.

Hi Sharkattack! Yes, I believe you're right about the fish! The hatchery I got the fish from in 2012, sells both regular bluegill and hybrid bluegill - green sunfish. John what are the hybrid bluegill? How much battery range do they have and how do you plug them in with all that water? Do they come from a mixed marriage? Crappie and Bluegill? Do fish do that? So many questions! Birds usually have one mate for life but perhaps fish are more promiscuous? And you think trying to get Lulu's attention is difficult! I mean they do have the blanket of water for cover so we know they are shy! If anyone knows I am sure it's you as you are the Master of the fish!

weird seeing you fish from bank... nice stringer full of fish. I haven't seen you use my Hoss sauce yet.

Hi MJ! I was desperate to catch fish for this catch and cook video, and luckily the little pond saved the day! It was fun! Oh yeah, I need to get some Hoss Sauce! LOL! Thanks for stopping by and leaving the very nice comment my friend!

As usual, your recipe looks like a winner, and the fish looked wonderful; both on the hook, on the stringer, and most of all, in their final fried-up condition!. If course, everyone's taste buds are different. So, with that in mind, which do you prefer as a breading when frying... Carquik or Carb Counters All-Purpose Flour?

Hi Enduringpatriot! Oh wow, that's a tough question! I don't remember if I've ever deep fried with Carb Counter's flour; I may have only pan fried with it. They're both good, but this method was one of my best ever. It may have been due to deep frying more than the type of flour though. I loved the way this Carbquik browned and crisped up on the fish and mushrooms! I'll pick Carbquik despite it's kinda funky smell when you put your nose in the box. LOL! Thanks for stopping by and leaving the great comment my friend!

@@Juanelo1946 Thanks, Juanelo! It's time for me to get SERIOUS about low-carbing! For the lack of a better term, I've played and toyed around with "partial" low-carb recipes, but I've always fallen off the wagon and gone back to the stuff I don't need to be eating. SOOOO, I'm open to any pointers to help me stay on the low-carb "straight and narrow" path.

I cheat a lot on my low-carb diet, so I'm no paragon of advice! LOL! Pizza is my achilles heel! But if you can stay faithful to low carb you will lose weigh and get healthier. It worked for me 19 years ago. I lost 32 LBS, and got rid of my gout. I've pretty much sustained my lower weight ever since then! Good luck!

@@Juanelo1946 Thanks so much for the info. Yes, gout can certainly be painful, I had not had a bout of it until June of last year, and then 2 flareups afterwards. One more question, Juanelo. Did you follow a program or just "wing it" when you started 19 years ago? Of course, there are all manner of recipes and resources online, and I have many, many recipes (some of which came from you)! I just wondered if you followed some sort of structure way back when....

I bet when you start losing significant weight, your gout will disappear! Almost 20 years ago, I bumped into an acquaintance of mine, a female doctor. I noted that she had lost a lot weight. She explained that it was from following the Atkins Diet. So I bought his most popular book and started cutting back on carbs. I used to count them, and tried hard to keep the net grams of carbs below 40. But I don't count them often these days. I did nothing very formal after the first year. Some days I'd count carbs, other days I didn't bother. Cutting down helps a lot though. Good luck!!

What other cameras other than your iPhone do you use
@Juanelo19465 жыл бұрын
Hi GL! I use my newer iPhone X and my older iPhone 6s, but that's it, nothing else. I keep them charged by running them off of batter packs.
