Awesome clip Al ! Loved the details on your outfit and how you rig the worms . Can’t wait to get out into the bay and give the Whiting a crack using those tips 🍻

Hi Alan, I noticed you hang your lure hook directly onto your butt end rod ring. You'd be better off hanging it off the leg of the ring or, better still, the hook keeper if you have one fitted. The barbs on hooks are what put micro scratches into the rings ceramic inserts which, in turn, will quickly and dramatically damage your braid. 😊

I reckon one session with you observing and learning from you I would have so much more success on fishing trips! It’s like it all just comes second nature to you, you can assess the environment for the day and area you’re in and adjust and adapt what you need to so naturally and I feel like you can only get this type of knowledge from someone who already has it
@fishingmad3 ай бұрын
Thanks !! That's very greatly appreciated. Its amazing what you can learn fishing with good anglers, I've been very fortunate to fish with some off the best over the years and like a sponge always learning.

Had never tried soft plastics before watching your channel use them all the time now Gulp work the best now after your video BCF and Anaconda won't have them in stock for weeks!

Awesome work Allan! I’ve always wanted to catch a whiting! I’ve heard their meat is some of the finest you will ever eat! Got any flatty fishing coming! Keep up the amazing educational work! You’ve caught/taught me heaps! Tight lines bro! 🇦🇺🎣🤙🇦🇺🎣🤙🇦🇺🎣🤙

Thanks, yeah imo whiting is the tastiest fish in the bay and so much fun to catch on soft plastics. The flathead footage will come soon, as there a lot more active in Summer and Autumn, right now working on some snapper content. Thanks for the kind words !!

Alan! Please look into “spin wright” jigsaw heads. They’re Aussie products and have an extra spot on the jig head for assist hooks. Support the locals!

Yeah, I have used them plenty, great products and I helped them with the design some time ago.

Awesome video. I noticed that most times you catch a fish, the assist hook pulls out of the soft plastic. Does this weaken the plastic to a point where you need to change it every catch?

These are the ones ontheedgelures.com.au/shop/whiting-stinger-assist-hooks however it might be worth messaging Jason at on the Edge Lures and asking him about the refreshed design which I used in this video.

Hi, which is better for softbait fishing. Tubular rods or solid carbon rod? Thanks. Very much needed information on which type of rod should i use when using soft plastic lures.
@pebbleschan60852 ай бұрын
😮I compared #6 Chinu and Octopus hooks. The Chinu doesn’t seem much smaller than a 1/0 jighead hook whereas the Octopus hook is much smaller.

Hey Alan would really appreciate recommendations for a kayak to buy. Wanting to buy one but not too sure what’s good and what isn’t. Thanks mate
@fishingmad3 ай бұрын
It really depends on your budget and fishing style. I actually did a 7 part workshop on this recently because there is a bit to it. Start with budget, then how you fish, how you will transport it those sorts of things. Hobies are amazing but out of some peoples available price range
@brqithx10363 ай бұрын
@@fishingmad thanks for the prompt reply. Budget isn’t too much of an issue I’m happy to spend around 2k if that will get me good quality. Don’t need the best of the best but would still like a well regarded and reliable one. I prefer to fish with lighter gear and use plastics, lures ect and from Bacchus Marsh so going to Geelong, Queenscliff and Werribee. If that can help with a recommendation that would be great

How successful is your rig for estuary bream?
@fishingmad3 ай бұрын
That's a good question, I haven't really tested it on bream but no doubt it would work. Years back I did a lot of coarse fishing with worms, maggots and tiny hooks and it was dynamite so this is almost an extension of that

hey mate, do you use burley? thanks
@fishingmad3 ай бұрын
I rarely use berley when fishing with plastics, but in this case when we anchor and trying to bring the fish on, its a good idea
@bradcarey7617Ай бұрын
Nice vids mate. Agree these Turtlebacks are dynamite and also agree their durability is very poor, often needing replacing every cast which makes them very expensive. Have you found something more robust ?

How do you clean this much fish after catching 😮
@fishingmad3 ай бұрын
It really doesn't take that long, about a minute per whiting. 99% of the fishing I do on the channel is catch and release so its nice to take a feed home occasionally, and whiting is my fav thing to eat in the bay
@ianb48013 ай бұрын
You must've used $$$$$$$ worth of plastics there. Aren't there versions that are more durable than these?
@fishingmad3 ай бұрын
Went through 2 packets of gulps for the whole day, so it's not too bad. Gulps out fish every other worm imitation I have ever tried and we have tried plenty of them on the channel over the years.
