Thanks for all the vids. They’ve really helped get back into fishing after 20 odd years away. I don’t have a dedicated feeder rod and it seems these days you can’t buy swing or quiver tips at least not at the shops I’ve been to. So my question is… is it completely wrong to use a bobbin and bite alarm for indication? I did this at the weekend and caught a good size bream but on 2 occasions I missed fish. I was hesitant to strike due to bites seeming tentative and fish not running off with the bait . Does a tip give better bite indication in this instance? Would like to hear some thoughts on this.

This is my go-to technique fishing for carp and buffalo here in the US, except we generally use our normal carp rods and alarm setup. Also, we generally do not clip up because the runs will either result in a hook pull or a lost rod!
@leebh8607
@leebh8607 2 жыл бұрын
the clip is only suitable for when you sit beside watching the rod and fish that are not too large or powerful runs. It does suck when you hook the odd big fish and the line hit the clip and break. There are some reels with patented line clip design that will release the line in the event it reaches the clipped up part.
@d-uns4468
@d-uns4468 2 жыл бұрын
Using the clip is only there for casting. Why would you leave your line in the clip? That would be disaster if a carp takes the bait and your still clipped up.
@brian1204
@brian1204 2 жыл бұрын
@@d-uns4468 exactly. However, match fishers routinely leave their lines clipped in, casting directly back to where they had cast before.
@elsesiy2ronaldo
@elsesiy2ronaldo 2 жыл бұрын
@@d-uns4468 Yeah, but if you don't keep the line clipped in afterwards, you can not reach the exact same distance, so what would be the point in clipping it in and out anyway?

Do you always leave the line in the clip? Even when playing a fish. What if it's a huge fish do you unclip? No one seems to explain this.
@fishingtutorials
@fishingtutorials Жыл бұрын
If you get a big fish that is taking line, you’ll need to lower the rod to give yourself some slack, and un-clip the line. Practice this before fishing and you’ll be fine! The only time you’d have a problem would be if you had a bite whilst away from the rod, so just be sure to stay near the rod! :)

The only gripe I have with this reel is the weight, but that goes with the size of the reel kzbin.infoUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . I brought this salmon fishing up in Oswego, NY. I coupled it with a Cabela's Whuppin Stick. I had no problem pulling in a 14lb salmon. I will probably use this for surf fishing this summer and downgrade to a 3500 series Battle II next salmon season to save my wrists. All of the operations are butter smooth and the bail is nice and thick and has a solid flip to it. Everything about this reel is sturdy and strong. The drag system held up to the salmon and was also super smooth. I did use a scale to set the drag properly before going out to the river and this worked out tremendously. A bunch of other guys on the river would hook up and snap almost immediately. Just because you have a good drag system doesn't do anything if you don't set it correctly.
