Hello, a cake decorator here~ Let me just say that the rosette technique is an absolute life saver - need a cake in five minutes for an event you somehow forgot you were in charge of? Rosette cake! The clients 'ooh' and 'ahh' over it, thinking it looks so expensive. Meanwhile, it's my go-to when feeling lazy!😆😁🍰

@BiwaLuke, I agree! I've been a cake decorator for 40+ years, and this technique is such an easy, quick way to make guests think you spent hours decorating a cake for them. ;)

I decorate ice cream cakes for the froyo shop I work at, Menchies, and This is definitely true, my first ever cake I did was a rosette and everybody told me I had such talent because I was only 16 at the time and It was completely a novice thing I did. It definitely looks better the more you do them but it is still a very basic and good way to start.

Hi! Professional cake decorator here! So, if you’re new to using icing bags, I would suggest a twist tie or rubber band on the end of the bag. Take it from me, you will be covered in icing if you don’t. Also, try “palming” the bag a little more. Basically seal the end once the icing is in, then move most of it to the back until you have a much smaller portion in your hand. You’ll have a lot more control and won’t cramp up as much. Just a few tips (pun intended) to make your first couple times piping go a little smoother 💖 It does take a little practice, but don’t get discouraged! It’s really fun and you’ll have something beautiful to show off that you did all on your own.

Lot of butthurt bakers in the comments, lmao. This video isn't trying to say these tricks will make you into some pro baker, it's just techniques to help make your cake look better than an ordinary one. Sometimes people don't want to deal with some pretentious baker, they just want a cake that's a little spruced up but won't cost them a hundred bucks. If you're mad that someone's willing to try decorating their cake themselves rather than pay three times the price to you, that's your problem.
@shakyrunner36076 жыл бұрын
Bridget Gomez people in these comments aren’t comparing the two, I completely understand your problem with it but I think this isn’t the place to complain about it.
@JustTheTruth-Please6 жыл бұрын
@Bridget Gomez Well, not every cake baked at home is from a box. There are some crazy things nowadays, like cookbooks and pans you can purchase, nuts I know, right? And then you can come on to one of these cool videos and learn how to make your homemade, from scratch, with fresh ingredients cake look a little nicer for your birthday party or special small dinner. And then, when you need a fabulous cake, you go to a professional baker and pay lots of money for the magic that they can do that you can't. I am going to take from all of these hostile bakers commenting that this is an extremely useful video full of tips that scare the pro bakers because you can do these things at home and not buy from them at all anymore. Otherwise why they so mad? If it is bad advice someone will try it, fail and go buy a pro cake, right? So...hmmm...

Thank you 😃. I make awesome chocolate cake thanks to youtube. The decorating is where I gave up on. These days, my go to style is the pink one that look like roses 😂. Even that took me a few try to master. Im from a small town, paying 25$ for a cake is way too much, let alone bouggies designer cake. I dont understand why pro baker would come here to watch this. These kind of tutorials aim for no skill people like me lol.
@nayjohnson44126 жыл бұрын
The Ladycatpurrs exactly! them being hostile means they’re mad that people can start making their cakes look a little nicer than average, thus prompting people to want to make their own cakes instead of dropping money for bakers to make it. not only that, but who wants to waste alot money on bakers for every special occasion? and deal with it say not being made on time or other issues. I’ll come to them when I need a wedding cake, but thats it. These tips are for the at home baker looking to spruce up their cakes and learn new stuff.

Try it with a large closed star tip instead of the open one she used (using the same technique). You will be pleasantly surprised at how much better it looks. Also, if you first ice your cake in the same color icing as the rosettes, the small gaps in between won't be as noticeable as hers were. :)

Thank you. I found an ombré purple naked cake for our reception. His favorite color. So fun to see different ways to do things. May have to do the first nozzle you did up the sides though. And I love the Saran trick. So easy and clean. I will be using it in my quest for a nice cake.

Nothing requires talent. Obviously, if you have it, it'll be easier, but nothing does.

To all the hurt professional bakers in the comments, This video is just to improve decorating a cake instead of just icing it and serving it to people, in *very* simple ways. Yeah, people can read your comment and take away your difficult tips or just copy the video where the product actually comes out good and the way they personally want it.

Can you please make a video about how to make good frosting? I can bake and decorate a cake perfectly but my frosting is never good
@Justice2Hearts5 жыл бұрын
Try ermine frosting. Mine is still sitting in the kitchen (passing by just to figure out how I’m gonna decorate my cake😂) it tastes better than butter cream and it’s super simple and fool proof. This is my first time trying it and I really like how it tastes.

@Bridgette Silva For a really good, basic buttercream, the standard recipe is one pound butter (I use salted), two pounds powdered sugar, two tablespoons vanilla extract, and just enough milk or cream for the desired consistency. Let your butter come to room temperature, then beat until it's soft, fluffy and lighter in color (butter lightens in color when it's beaten longer). Then add about half the sugar, mix it in with the butter, then gradually add the rest of the sugar and the vanilla extract. Now add the milk or cream to the desired consistency (medium stiff is best for most icing/decorating purposes). Beat with the paddle attachment (if you have a stand mixer) to remove any air bubbles and mix until smooth and creamy. If you plan to color it, be sure to color it in batches large enough for what you need, because it can be difficult to get the same exact shade if you don't have enough and have to color more. This icing keep really well in an airtight container in the refrigerator for two weeks, or for three months in the freezer. Just let come to room temperature in covered container, then re-whip.

Vanilla buttercream is my favorite and go-to.

@T. Dee I've been a cake decorator for 40+ years, and salted butter is the ONLY kind I use. It helps cut down on the sweetness, as well as giving the taste balance. But, to each his own; I'm just presenting the other side of the coin for those who may not know that salted butter DOES work well in icings.
@beckah1194 жыл бұрын
@T. Dee they use salted butter on store cakes. At least we did before it started coming in in buckets. Tastes gross now.

Nope. I love cake, but by that I mean once it's out of the oven I just cut it and eat it with some coffee or tea to drink. I don't like buttercream, whipped cream or anything else really. Maybe a light drizzle of dark chocolate on a piece of cake will do, but I hate this whole decorating thing. In my opinion it ruins a perfect cake.
@earlyu79066 жыл бұрын
You're not alone. Im not a big fan of icing either. Whenever I make cake and muffins, I dont put icing on it. I prefer to eat them naked or with a scoop of ice cream. ;)

Aliya Kauser you're not alone! That much frosting will make the cake waaaay too sweet for me, haha. I prefer eating cake with ice-cream or cream on the side :)

I think this is the first time I've seen your videos and I just loved you! You are calming because you don't take this all too seriously. It IS kind of intimidating, but fun if you just let yourself go and try stuff...whose gonna know but you? I know my neighbors LOVE the fact that I am baking cupcakes about 2-3 times a week and letting them eat my "practice" pieces!! I am learning still...tonight I had to try to cover my chocolate cake in ganache that I whipped a bit too long! LOL!!! I tasted like heaven, though!

Just a tip from a baking and pastry arts student. it's okay to hold your piping bag halfway down the bag. just buy the really long ones so your buttercream doesn't fall out! you have way more control with one hand! (specifically, the one you write with) You will have much more control and before you pipe get a piece of parchment paper and just practice piping where you want the frosting to go it will help a lot for future cakes!
