Metallic paints can be a real bear to run through air brushes due to the size of the metallic flake that is suspended in them; it can help to look at brands that are formulated for airbrushes, like Vallejo Model Air (and there are heaps of others, I'm just mainly familiar with VMA). I really like your idea for a fold-away spray booth and intend to build one for myself.

Yeah, it was a pretty big ask, for a budget airbrush to spray budget metalic paint, lol. Hey, if you never try..... Thanks for the advice.

Cool paint box. Add a fan + filter to suck the airborne paint away from you

Was gonna say. That’s something you’d use next to the open door of a garage.

It's all non toxic acrylic, but I will consider adding a wee fan or something, just in case.

That came out well! The problem with the silver paint may have been that it was just too thick to properly spray through the needle/nozzle combination on that airbrush. I don't know what size needle it has, but for that silver paint I'm guessing a .5mm needle/nozzle would be needed.
@ScottRails
@ScottRails Жыл бұрын
Yes, I think the needle in this is like 0.2mm, which is way too small. Had to try it though, now I know.

Looked for you at the train show. Good show. If you have some loose ball bearings or small stainless nuts drop them in your paint bottles for a better mixing solution. Shake them up like a spray bomb.

Nice to see a vid where, just as for me, not everything goes according to plan right away. Paint splatter is usully caused by too low air pressure or too thick paintmix. But really nice result in the end!
@ScottRails

I could maybe have stirred it a bit longer, but as you say, it turned out fine. I'm making sure to clean it the instant I'm done. I know these things can clog and get ruined forever.

WOW WOW, WOW! I recently been unpacking and figuring out what to do with my train stuff. Most of its been packed away since the late 80s, but I found some receipts for 2008. Among this trove was a similar airbrush starter set, new, unused, in the box. I’m thinking, I’ll need a spray booth. Then 💥 BAM! You post this video 3 days ago. Like you answered all my questions, 3 days before I had them! Thanks! Thanks 🙏

@aircooledhead

@@ScottRails Actually just unpacking boxes and saying “What will I do with this?” Most likely to be a shelf layout/diorama as Its HO scale and I have very limited space. There’ll be no “running trains” here.
@ScottRails
@ScottRails Жыл бұрын
@@aircooledhead What about making a hinged shelf, so you can drop it down when you want to run trains. Obviously you'd be limited with buildings and scenery, but at least it could be "alive". Just model Florida, it's pretty flat, lol.

I just bought 4 sheets of that plastic foam from the dollars store and duck taped them together. Cut some diagonals and added some magnets. I would like it a little bigger. Might make another one.

Hi Dave thats a great little airbrush kit but i have a couple of suggestions . My first is to get yourself a quick release set , its the same as you have on your air tools in the garage but smaller , much smaller but makes life simple when you want to clean the brush . Others have talked about thinning the paint but no one has mentioned tip drying . This is very common with acrylics and its where the paint collects and then dries around the tip . Pull the front cap off and if there is a build up around the tip/ nozzle pick it off with your nails or use a soft brush and the same thinner as you're using for the paint . You can spray without the front cap but you have to be careful as the needle is exposed . My almost last tip would be to watch a guy who has a KZbin channel called Airbrush Asylum. Lots of good info plus he's an Aussie . My last tip , wear a respirator. I know you have one as you clear spray Bugsy . Remember that the paint coming out of your airbrush is made up of finer particles than your normal gun so a lot easier to inhale , nasty . Cheers Paul.

Thanks Paul. Quick release would be awesome, I'll have a look. I did remember to remove that front tip to clean it, that needle is tiny, and looks very breakable. I'll look up Airbrush Asylum. Thanks again.

Do you mean with an aerosol? or just a prime paint through the airbrush?
@keithkarbel2000

Agreed, I always start with with gray or black spray primer (depending on the final colors) before switching to the airbrush. Helps not only with coverage but also with “sticking power” for acrylics.

I really like that portable, cheap, and storable fold up magnet secured paint booth. You could get a company to make that for you with something stronger than duct tape, and you've got a side income that could become a primrary one. Just saying, great idea. (the airbrush is neat, but I'm biased because of my dad; Badger all the way; and you'll have better performance with a small tank system; more powah!)

Dimensions? hahaha. Iet me check... The base, back and top lip are made from one piece of foam board at 30 by 20 inches. The sides are from another piece of board and just made to fit. I'm surprised as much as anyone that it worked out so well, lol.
