I spent 2 months in CDMX last summer and I fully agree with all you said above. I would add that besides being friendly, the people are also almost unfailingly polite and despite the US's boorish behavior towards Mexico in general over the past few years, Mexicans actually like Americans and can separate the poltics from the people.

Living and working on and off in México city for 30 years it’s truly a wonderful place. How about getting your shoes perfectly shined on the street, getting a perfect shave, hearing laughter early in the morning, the smell of fresh wood oven pan dulce, combinations of fresh-squeezed juice, cultural museums in every Colonia, and outdoor markets selling handicrafts around this special city. I agree across the board Andrew. A few additions from my own experience in Mexico City; as bustling as it is, you can remove yourself from the bustle as easily as sitting on one of the innumerable benches, in the parks or even on the Paseo de la Reforma, and it's as relaxing as a quiet park in Europe, to me anyway. And while I am very fond of Bogota, and Colombians, I prefer Mexican music over the salsa that is so ubiquitous in Colombia. Last time I was in Colombia I found myself gravitating to places that were playing Mexican music. Ultimately it boils down to the Mexican people, who are some of the best in the world.

I've lived in Mexico for five years now and been coming to Mexico since 1954. I've been most everywhere in Mexico. The Mexicans are the best. They'll give you the shirt off their back even if they don't have one.

Spot on. Mexico City is definitely one of the great big major cities and political/economic capitals of the world. Comments: 1) The taxi ride from the airport might put some people off. Just think of Mexico City as a sea and the great neighborhoods as islands. The less-than-great neighborhoods aren't bad, but sometimes there's an unwalkable gap in between (like the airport to the good parts) 2) that said, for such a big city, the airport is close and really easy to get to especially if you avoid rush hour. The ability to get anywhere else in the country non-stop (the Pacific beaches, Oaxaca, the Yucatan etc.) is a big plus. General note: Avoid trying to get anywhere during rush hour. 3) the food culture is off the hook, one of the best in the world. It's worth getting a book or two and reading up on it so you don't miss anything great. 4) it's a VERY cultured place, has as many museums as London and every kind of music you can imagine 5) MANY excellent neighborhoods besides the ones Andrew mentioned. Here are not mentioned that are definitely worth a visit: Coyoacan and San Angel 6) the subway is modern, handy and super cheap. Just avoid rush hour. 7) The city is at a pretty high altitude so your first day or so you might feel a little lightheaded when you arrive and truth be told air quality is not always ideal 8) Dynamic place. It's not only a magnet for talent from Mexico, talented people from all over Latin America flock there and increasingly Europeans and North Americans too 9) If I was planing to start a business esp. a virtual one, this is a much better choice than impossibly expensive places like NYC and London.

It´s a magnificent city with history literally on every corner, hidden restaurants within courtyards and plenty of street action. Have been going for 40 years and seen the progress, changing neighborhoods but still remains a friendly, walking city. Saturday bazaar in Plaza San Jacinto and Cuyoacan are favorites.

I have lived in Bogota and Mexico City and there is no doubt in my mind that Mexico City is a much better place to live. I like to call Mexico City “Foreign Light”. The people make Mexico City special. They are generally very kind and open to making friends with new people. The food is amazing here and if you haven’t had a taco al pastor this is the place to get it. It is the most popular food in the city. I drive in Bogota and CDMX and Mexicans follow US driving etiquette and rules for the most part. Bogota driving is best described as organized chaos with everyone only worried about themselves. In Bogota you can’t use a turn signal because all other drivers will take that as a sign to cut you off. I can take $60 round trip flight to almost any coastal city in Mexico for the weekend whenever I want. Passing through airport security usually takes less than 10 min. I can grab a direct flight from CDMX to most major US cities. I could go on but Mexico City is a hidden gem.

Absolutely. CDMX (Mexico City) is my home for a year now. The pandemic has interfered with my acclimation, but I have met lovely, kind, warm friends. This is a welcoming city with great weather and a wonderful vibe. People ask, “Is it safe?” Yes, if you take the same precautions you should take in any big city.

Mexico is definitely on the map for me as I work towards a Nomad Capitalist lifestyle. My GF is Hispanic and has family there, and when I think of things like climate, natural disasters, and likelihood of consequences from war, Mexico seems like a low level risk. I'm 32, and have never left the US. I applied for my first passport a month ago, and Mexico will be the first country I visit. Starting your book next week!

As a Mexican citizen who has lived in Mexico city my whole life here and I'm just 25 years old now. I have visited some other cities and by far Mexico city is my favourite, ofc ourse some times the traffic and some areas are a let down, for a middle class family it's great to live, there are a lot of malls, parks, museums, great food from cheap tacos to michelin star restaurants with international mexican/foreign chefs. Middle eastern, mediterranean, Asian cousines, a lot of american grills or vegan food if you are that type of person. Winter is cold but not extremely cold, let´s say 7 celsius degrees to 12 degrees which is perfect to rock nice outfits but without layering it that much, spring is sunny and hot and autumn is windy. Internet its pretty fast too with optical fabric up to 1GB of internet speed for around 70 usd a month. There is a lot of places to visit, night life and there is people from all over the world the whole year to hang out with. Love my city and of course it's not perfect but it's more than a decent city to live with if you are a city person and some nice areas around the city like Malinalco with amazing spans, Valle de bravo, Puebla which is also increasing their life quality pretty fast.

went to mexico city for the first time to meet my wifes folks 15 years ago - being a northerner (anti-hugger) it really threw me off how wonderful the vast majority of people are. we were going to people's homes that my wife barely knew, it was always the same thing - they treated me no different than they were treating their own relatives - food, drink, always hugging. from there on - i was hooked. not to say bad things don't happen - but i loved it. also loved the fact that you could go at 2am and grab taco's!!! and the places were packed @ 2am!!!! like whole families out... just the vibe and the feel - i loved it. would highly recommend it. being i don't speak espanol i would highly recommend Azcapotzalco to walk around - love the little markets in the morning and spaghetti and chicken on every street corner. Really like Polanco as they have the shops and if you need to go to Costco or any of the more Euro/American places. Great video!!!

Just like in New York, if you see a couple of guys arguing in the mercado, they are probably best friends who have known each other since childhood. They still pump your gas for you here. The food is way better here than in most countries (especially the US). You can go to Costco or Walmart (if you must). And even in the biggest cities in MX that are maligned by the American and Canadian presses, you can still find quiet safe neighborhoods. But you have to look for your peace here...Get out of the tourist hubs!...

I just walked into my home from a three day stay in Mexico City. It was my fourth time visiting. I love the city. If you can stay in your own 6 block radius neighborhood there is no other city like it. I always stay close to the torre reformer and in a Sunday evening there’s literally no one on the streets. I could see myself living there if I could work and live in my own neighborhood.

I remember a travel editor with the San Francisco Chronicle had lots of praise for Mexico City. I know, what a job he had. He was down there during the Olympics in Mexico City back in 1968. One comment that stuck in my mind during his daily write ups while he was down there. He said the people in Mexico City loved to party. He said it seemed like there was a celebration for one thing and another. He had lots of praise for Mexico City.

We are living in San Cristobal de las Casas for now. We truly love the weather. And the people are as you say helpful and friendly. Our Spanish is weak, but improving. We’re not keen on big cities, even after living in NYC. I hope Mexico doesn’t succumb to Americanization any more than it has already. The absolute worst place to get the feel of Mexico is Cancun and Isla Mujeres. Beautiful beaches, though. Love your channel

I couldn’t agree more. To me, Mexico City is the relatively undiscovered jewel of the Americas. I used to go to New York all the time for my city “fix”. Who needs it - over priced, over rated and increasingly sterilized. CDMX has it all. I usually stay in the Bella’s Artes area so I can walk almost anywhere. If I can’t walk there are subway stops nearby. The subway, by the way, is just great. There are so many interesting neighborhoods, great restaurants, wonderful markets -everything one could want in the world class city that CDMX is.

I just wish people stopped calling America "The Americas". It's a U.S. made thing to feel superior over the other countries in this hemisphere. Mexico City is the best, the lack of unnecessary zoning and rules makes for incredibly vibrant neighborhoods and cheaper housing. And as far as getting around the city, the subway (Metro) is only five pesos and the Metrobus is six pesos

I'm in Roma Norte, just got here from Bulgaria. CDMX is so pet-friendly, hardly any stray animals in good neighborhoods, pet food stores & vets everywhere, dogs in outdoor cafes, water bowls everywhere. This makes a difference, it's so relaxing to be a tourist instead of a rescuer. Minor issues: preoccupation with masks, hand sanitizer, temperature checks. Also, very high security presence in many shops & malls. Yesterday I went to a mall to look at coffee gadgets, but it wasn't fun because I had too much "help," so I left. Trust me, I don't look out of place in a nice mall, so they do that to everyone.

Hello , Having visited Mexico City back in 2011 , it truly blew me away !! …the service was just incredible….everywhere !!! …having flown all the way from Australia and transited in L.A ( what a nightmare that was ie the service in L.A was let’s say a culture shock ! ) and when I landed in Mexico City ….beautiful people and service . Mexico City to this day is still my number 1 city , I have visited. Besides the service mentioned , it has all boxes ticked !!! ( ok , the beaches are a little further away but there ain’t no such thing as perfection) !! Take care

where in Haïti do you go and what about it do you like? Jacmel seemed nice. PAP seemed dangerous. i am of haitian origin but found it difficult to imagine myself living there . it looked like the only way to live well is to be rich and social life happens only at people's houses.

I spent 1 week in mexico city .in 2016 .first its very pocket friendly.nice people. Awsome food .icecream . Much easier if u speak a little spanish .but have to careful in some areas .in genral great place. Good hotel .low price .you dont feel pinched in mexico citu in terms of money

Love love love love Mexico City ! Just like you said it's so beautiful and diverse, friendly people, and US dollars/Euros go farrrrrrrrr once converted to pesos. And the lifestyle options are very similar if not better than what one may have in The US.

@Gororoba just walk the blocks in each city. Guadalajara is much better preserved. Less of the historic sites have been knocked down. You don’t have to go to a museum to find out the history. BTW, the quality of the museums are better. Guadalajara is the pearl in the mountains of Mexico. Mexico City does not have the cultural structure of Guadalajara.

Mexico City is great but If I wanted to distill what I like about it into way more manageable sized city and bit slower pace , it would be Ciudad Oaxaca. Wonderful, delicious place with more....‘Mexico-ness’ ie More indigenous culture /less colonial. Obviously though, traveling to the rest of the world takes an extra hop.
