When I was 23 years old, I was in a car accident due to the driver being drunk. I was terribly stupid for being with a drunk driver AND in addition I wasn't wearing my seatbelt. I think in the 80's many people didn't wear their seatbelts. I still can't believe how lucky I am for being alive. Despite the car rolling over several times, (not on a street but on a highway) I was NOT ejected, I had No other injuries besides my skin being peeled off from what seemed being dragged against the pavement in one of the turns. It's just my guess, I can't tell what exactly happened during the accident, but I was aware and alive. I have many reasons to think I've been super lucky in different situations!

Luck was with you that day and it wasn't your time to go neither your fault in the first place. Life is the best experience in our short lives and we have to take care of it the most we can. Of course everyone does not think at a young age but we learn as we grow. I was rear ended by a drunk driver. I ended up in the hospital with fractured shoulder pain in both legs 2 concussions my head had 2 open wounds and I was thrown out my truck which I think is what saved my life looking at how bad the vehicles involved ended up. My truck was crushed when it collided with on coming traffic. 2 people had their vehicle cut in half in order to get the victims out and rush them to the hospital. The drunk guy they sed suffered minor scratches and was arrested also he was laughing about it. Drunk driving is a really bad crime and yet local or state government aren't doing anything to slow people from drinking & driving.. they should go after stores that sell beer to people who are already buzzed.. the one behind the counter should be accountable for selling beer to people who are already buzzed.

I think accidents can happen to people. For example one video I saw just now was of a small car that had a truck carrying mulch tip over onto it after the driver of the truck lost control. I understand for the small car driver he could say that he was involved in an accident. The driver who lost control of the truck could say he had an accident, because it could have been caused by a malfunction of the mechanical parts, the road surface or environment. I also see your point that accidents don't just happen, there are things that you as a driver can do to reduce the possibility of accidents. Driver training, checking the truck over before you drive, proper maintenance, making sure you don't overload the truck (I think he had way too much mulch in it), being alert to possible dangers,etc. So yes many accidents are preventable, and drivers can play their part in reducing risk/danger and the rate of accidents. I hope I make sense
@dotcassilles14883 жыл бұрын
I think many accidents could be prevented or at least the accidents could have less serious results if we all (anyone on or near a road or vehicle) were able to focus our attention on, to be more aware of, our surroundings and what is happening moment by moment. No distractions such as music or phones, no speeding, no having just one drink, no driving tired or drugged, etc. This would be in a perfect world of course... Maybe we can just spread the message and learn from past mistakes. That way hopefully we can be alert enough to identify danger or threats and take steps to avoid or minimise them as we see them
@thesongbird23833 жыл бұрын
I think we can all agree that one huge problem causing fatal accidents are these WRONG WAY drunk drivers. Dang, just way too many of those happening on freeways between 10:30PM & 5:00AM. Even if drunk, it's hard to imagine so many people entering a freeway via an Exit Ramp and not realizing something isn't right. Bottom line: There's still just too many people getting into the driver's seat drunk or stoned. Ugh🤯

It's difficult to say but most of the time speed is a factor during collisions & lack of being aware or at times people staring down at the phone while driving is a horrible distraction for something like this. I myself was rear ended by a drunk driver while sitting waiting for the green light.. The guy was doing 50-55mph (according to witnesses) never braked when he collided with me. I blacked out suffered concussions big gash on my sculpt, fractured shoulder, injured neck, injured knee and my truck was totaled.. I'm glad to be alive after seeing the aftermath on pictures taken.. my truck hit an oncoming vehicle, they also did not have time to react & their vehicle was crushed trapping both driver & passenger & trapping me in my own truck.. Drunk guy only had minor scratches & was arrested on scene. This happened almost a year & a half ago.. His insurance accepted responsibility but ridiculous to what they offered me so I filed a lawsuit against both driver & his insurance. Drunk driving is a serious crime, yet nothing is being done to slow people from driving drunk.. laws should be made & enforced & places that sell alcohol knowing that in some cases they are aware the person buying alcohol is already buzzed but they go ahead & complete transaction. They should be accountable for selling to drunks. I've seen it many times. More should be done, it can happen to anyone or a loved one etc.. everyone is affected by it somehow.

You both need to update your skills and learn icema protocols for San bernardino County, the largest county in the country, Mono, Inyo (2nd largest in CA). It is also in riverside county, the 4th largest county in the state. I'm sure its in more,, but i only know icema and remsa. This update was appx 4years ago. This tc happened in San Bern city, which is one of the highest, if not the highest call volume in the country. Protocol is to avoid a backboard and use a c-collar unless they are showing neuro deficits (i.e. numbness in legs), need to be extricated where a break away stretcher isn't available, traction splint, if the patient cannot maintain their own spinal alignment, or if we can't align them properly on the gurney. And of course cpr. FF tend to get stuck in their old ways.and want to backboard everyone, so I just bring them a flat.

I don't know what the conduct and teaching of first aid in North America is, but I found it wrong and dangerous to take people out of an accident of these proportions the way they were, using stretchers with mattresses and not rigid stretchers preserving the servical spine in case of any fracture or trauma. I understand the girl's cries of pain and the way she lies on the stretcher.
@General_Crock Жыл бұрын
The EMTs do an assessment and utilize a spinal backboard based upon that. Clearly here their assessment suggested it was not required. Typically advances made in the western world are shared immediately.

So if my medic is starting an iv or something before we go he may ask me to get piz of the cars especially ours. It is also critical for pictures since this was a fatal crash.

Then explain to me why the white patient was on a backboard and properly secured? The whole point of having an ems on scene is to provide limited hospital care at the scene. A collar alone will not provide spinal immobilization. Backboards are used the world over. You must immobilize the patient given the mechanism of injury and transport to the hospital for definitive care. If the patient is in pain, and she clearly was in pain, then administer ketamine to provide relief. Take a look at how the british treat road traffic accident patients. That's how it should be done.

Idk why I’m thinking this but those roads are horrible! The city needs to repave! There are huge potholes on that street and maybe someone was going to fast and hit one? 🤷🏽♀️ The flow of traffic on Victoria and fifth is pretty low , not many cars on that stretch of the city

How many will have health insurance, car insurance???? In the country legally?? Doesn't matter, you will pay for it. Another day in Cali.
@johnnymedel75783 жыл бұрын
Why does that matter to you?? And who was in this country illegally? I'm just asking because I reading a lot about this all in these comments and I'm not understanding what does it have to do with the accident??

Nope. Read our protocols. Eveb backboarding has been strictly limited due to how hazardous they are
@gerryjamieson18613 жыл бұрын
If you ever get into a traffic accident and are seriously injured these firefighters are the LAST people you want "helping" you. They might just as well dragged that poor girl out of the car by her hair , across to the ambulance and tossed her in the back. So unprofessional. No sedation, morphine, backboard, nothing. No wonder americans pay so much for their health care.
@noelleabra1473 жыл бұрын
If you knew anything about our protocols you would know ICEMA (san bernardino, inyo, and mono counties) and REMSA (riverside county) dont carry morphine. We carry ketamine and fentanyl and versed. There is also indications on when these meds can and can't be given, and from your ignorant statement I am going to say you aren't in ems and was not there assessing her. Another this is backboards have been almost completely irradicated for a few years now. Science proves a collar alone is safer than a board. Based 9n looking at her moving you can see she fits the non-backboard protocol. Kudos on the ignorance.

Yaaa, you can see all her discs, joints, and internal bleeding all from the video right? They survived being rear ended and T-boned, lucky they don't have compound fractures.

Hmm I mean the force itself can cause damage, perhaps she hit the door hard. I rolled my ankle 10 years ago, torn ligament and numb the first 12 hours, after that it hurt alot actually to my surprise. A rolled ankle out of all minimal injuries.

"Looks" and 'is' are two different lived realities. All people experience pain differently. People may also have multiple internal injuries that cannot be seen (and can be excruciating). So, unless you know exactly what you are 'looking' at, you're just speculating.
