I once had a student that was super agressive and even hit me. He was failing and always skipping class, and the only thing I did was talking to him on a regular basis and found out he had a huge depression. Sometimes all we need is to find out more.

You're literally so sweet. I studied art in school and everyone kept asking me "what are you going to do? teach?" like it was a negative, and knowing I have never been fond of younger kids, it was a joke to them, so I never pursued it. I went back to school and studied communication, because I thought it would help me find something I was passionate about... Here I am, 6 months later, and all I can do is think about wanting to be a teacher. Your videos have really shown me that this is what I want to do. After watching all of them, and following your instagram account, I applied and have been accepted into a lateral entry teaching program where I can get my license, but finding a job is looking to be extremely difficult. I have applied for a ton of them in my area. Hurricane Florence just ripped my town (Wilmington, NC) apart, and I don't know how to move forward. I have also always wanted to start an instagram, youtube and/or blog about my life and experiences. I know you have been through a lot, and I just need some guidance or advice from someone my age, who has been though a rough time, and finally pursued something they have dreamed about. As I sit and watch my various social media account be flooded with posts about the Emmy Awards, I just really want to take a moment to thank you and teachers like you who wake up everyday so incredibly excited to come to work and make a difference in the lives of our future doctors, activists, lawyers, writers, engineers, teachers, mechanics, artists, mothers and fathers, like just, you are making such a difference - the impact you leave behind is beyond actual words! I’m 32 and when became a teacher i just turned 23. I taught physics to juniors and seniors and had “grown men” who were in their way to college. (PS I’m also 5foot!) i admire your positivity but i taught for 6 years and I actually got very jaded until I realized that when i had to pep myself up mentally to get through the next block it was time i bow out! I was really good, won awards and students saw me as a role model, and kids came back from college to visit. I have multiple cards and letters from various students but in my heart i just fizzled out. My advice to you is don’t burn the wick at both ends and go 100mph all the time, i believe i did not balance my personal life well and it caused burn out. Stay strong and keep up the good work!
