My furnace was blinking 3-1. Tried youtube before I called an HVAC tech and low and behold this was the EXACT problem. It cost me 1hr of my time and now the code is gone and my furnace is blowing hot. Exact same furnace as in the video and exact same problem - Clogged condenser box just needed to be removed, blown out and re installed. THANK YOU SO MUCH MPOPOV69. You the real hero.

--feeling accomplished! My dad would be proud! We are in the midst of an arctic blast and enduring temps well below zero. Thanks to your video, I avoided an expensive service call and was able to unblock and flush the collector box- no problem. I detached the third hose and removed the box to flush it at the sink. Had to blow out the blockage-- channeling my mechanic dad! Thanks again!

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Here is my story....The service guy ran through a few attempts to clear the blockage (error code 31), but to no avail. Also mentioning that it would be close to $1000 repairing this and that, deeming it might be better to buy a whole new furnace. He said in the meantime, just drain the lines every day or two. The next day, the black 1" corrugated hose was still holding close to a half gallon of water every day until I drained it manually. Since it was backing up, it led me to believe the lack of water drainage was the main issue, not replacing other pricey parts. After seeing your video, I cleaned out the clog (about 2 teaspoons worth) of debris in the white condensate connection box. Only, I removed all three tubes and removed the whole box from the furnace (it comes out by angling it 45 degrees, downwards) and blew out the debris in the laundry sink, then ran hot water through and let vinegar sit in it for 30 minutes as a preventative measure or to clear out lime scale, etc. Fingers crossed this was the problem! PS: Mine is a Carrier....Bryant and Carrier furnaces are the same company, (or use similar parts). Thanks again for posting this video. I did a video on removing tree sap from your car. two words: hand sanitizer! :)

1/19/2016 I got home later in the evening and noticed the place was getting a little clod and around the base of the furnace was some water. The error code was 31 but it did not show any codes in the manuals I had. After resetting the furnace it would go through the cycles and run about 15 minutes and go down. I found this video watched it and it took about 5 minutes to fix the 13 year old furnace and save me from a cold night in northern Michigan and several hundred dollars. Thanks.

You were right on! Had just watched a video that stated about a half dozen things could be wrong with code 31. Confused me! When I saw this video I thought why not check, it does not take much to make sure you have the proper drainage. After pulling off the first hose as shown water poured out, more than on this video. I pulled out my condensation collection box and found it to be completely plugged. You couldn't blow through the box as shown by this gentleman. I used hot water, steam and shaking water back and forth to clear the box. Furnace is working great now!! Thank you, thank you!

What an awesome video, total lifesaver! I have an almost identical Carrier 92, no error code but lots of water under the furnace. First I thought it was the Condensate pump which hadn't been cleaned in a couple of years and was totally clogged. Took care of that and thought i had fixed the problem. Next day more water under the furnace. Thought I was going to have to put in a service call and spend $300+ but then stumbled on this video. Followed it to the T and problem was identical. Water came gushing out of main hose to trap, which was completely clogged. Took all 3 hoses off and removed the trap to clean it in the sink. Thank you again for making this video!! I see there's a PayPal in honor of Mihail, so sorry for your loss Ellena, my condolences!

My Bryant didn't get an error code, but was leaking water on the floor around the furnace. The drain hose was dry -- that's funny and an important clue. This video was extremely helpful. This video helped us realize that the condensate trap was clogged, and showed us exactly how to unclog it. Saved us an expensive service call. Checked 12 hours later, no water on the floor around the furnace. Thanks again!

Thanks for the tip on tilting the condensate trap box. While obvious once you see it, I was struggling with determining if the box was actually removable on this unit (some variants seem to have it side-mounted for easier removal). Got the box off, cleaned out a ton of gunk, and got rid of code 31. Thanks again for money saved!

Perfect!! some of these air switches has two contact - one on the front one on the back check both! On my Carrier unit the yellow jumper powered both switches - then there was a brown (signal to control board) and orange (signal to control board) two different outputs signals. Inducer housing pressure and collector box pressure (check all 3 tubing- green, black, and black square tubing vacuumed sensing signal). Blow them out (toward the inducer housing) and you can check them with a OHM meter by gently sucking on the hose and hearing them click. Make sure the hoses are good and tight - a very small vacuum leak can cause them to not work!

Thanks, this solution worked for me. I made it easier on myself and just disconnected the tube between the white box and the inside of the heater, on the end of the tube where it connects to the through hole leading to the exterior drain. I stuck the tube into a shop vac, sealed it with my hand and ran the vacuum until I didn't feel anything being pulled through. The heater is working fine now.

Thank you for the very informative video... I too replaced the pressure switch many years ago... As for the water leak I am in the process of waiting for a replacement hose from the inducer housing to the p trap... My hose wrotted away resently and is un-repairable except for the original part which can not be purchased here in Canada without a current gas license... Fortunately our American neighbours are not so sticklish... Repair Clinic.Com in Michigan sent out the part a couple of days ago... In the meantime I have rigged up a temporary drain into a bucket, furnace still works good...I know you are going to get a lot of negative comments from people claiming liability issues... It is a normal plumbing job not an electrical nor natural gas problem... Thank you again for your help...Frank

Hello and thank you for this video. I see that it was posted 4 years ago. If you can reply briefly, I will gladly buy you an energy bar. I also want to share a way to be a little safer. The repair went very well, I followed step by step as the temperature in the house dropped steadily. The outside temperature was 4 degrees when I started, and up to 12 by the time I finished, and now dropping again as evening approaches. The additional safety procedures I implemented were: 1. Turn on a wet/dry shop vac before loosening any hose clamps, place the vacuum nozzle right next to the clamp, and then loosen and remove hose. The vac sucked in all the water from each of the hoses, there was no spillage at all. and there was a lot of water. 2. As you suggested, I removed the whole canister before blowing out the junk in it. This seemed safer to me to blow it out in the kitchen sink rather than around electric potential. 3. I wore heavy duty rubber gloves while working on the furnace, in addition to disconnecting the electricity. I am grateful for your unselfish video and the money you saved me.

Thank you, I checked couple of things, the flame sensor, the limiter, the pressure switch, then the clogged drain. And it was clogged. Because when I disconnect the pipe at the top, water came pouring out, even though I emptied the electrical pump prior. But when i put everything back in, I still got an error, because I forgot to reconnect one of the lead to the bottom pressure switch. It works now. Thank you again.

This was pretty impressive for a homeowner to do this to their own 90% furnace. It is not how we professionals do it though. I did this exact job today on this exact furnace. You have to pull out the white condensate trap. Pull the drain tube, pressure switch tube and the little rubber 90 off of it and pinch the two clamps on the cond trap to release it and take it out of the bottom and go rinse it out in the sink with hot water flushing it both ways and also blocking different ports so the water flushes it better and a few times get it full of water in the sink and then shake the condensate trap up and down vigorously to loosen the crud inside. then flush again until it flows clear and clean no matter which way you run water through it. Another thing is...don't ypou dare stick anything inside of that pressure switch to loosen that stuck membrane like you said! if it sticks, replace it! If the pressure switch ever gets water in it even once...it needs replaced, period. Pressure switches are not that much. Poking into it is joe handyman stuff, don't do it! Otherwise, impressive video!

I didn't give it a thumbs down, but there's a much better way to do that. That condensate trap copme out pretty easy and shold be flushed out and backflushed in the sink and shake well! it gets a lot more gunk out of it. and be careful not to drip a bunch of water onto your control board! This man was not being very careful about that! but it was still pretty impressive for a homeowner!

Just what I needed to find to solve my error code 31. It worked. I took that whole dern collector box out because it was totally plugged up with oily gray mud. Washed it out with detergent. Put everything back, and now I have a happy furnace. I had just installed a new draft inducer the day before, so when it stopped working again I was so frustrated. Can’t wait to see what goes wrong next. lol
@mpopov697 жыл бұрын
kgx29 What could go wrong? On both my units I had to also replace the pressure switch: apparently the membrane ages or something gets dirty or who knows what, but over time they started to get stuck and cause the same error code. And on both units I had to replace the capacitors at the condensers outside - they had swollen and the motors could not start: these are also easy fixes and I found the caps locally for about $20 or so. I will make a video about that when the weather warm-up- The caps tend to blow in the summer when the A/C is working (the pressure switches and clogging happens in the cold months). If you have not had to deal with these things yet, be on the lookout : (.
@kgx297 жыл бұрын
You are awesome! so far so good on the pressure switch. I live up north and never run the AC, but this is good info if we get a bad summer and I decide to run it. Btw, I decided to re-route the drainage tubes to the left side exterior position. Found the manual to the Bryant online and it shows that option. Anyway, bought the OEM drain tube on ebay. The exterior position will make it easier to keep clean/shorter lines. Also my condensate pump is on the left, so it is much better all in all!

Same problem here. My large hose on the top of the trap let out about a gallon of water before it started to slow down. I removed the white condensate cup. (Remove hoses) depressed the two clips on top side and it will com out the bottom. The large hose routing inside the cup-trap was clogged. You have to put your fingers over the other two inlets to find this out. Push air or water in from the outlet at the bottom and cover those other two to clean.

i read the reviews(basically said piece of crap out of 50 reviews) on my Keeprite High Efficiency Furnance. this problem exactly why my furnance would not work clogged drainage. Not anything else. . The poor owners changed everything under the sun and within a month stopped working as per the Service Repair Asshole. It was just clogged. So there is nothing wrong with my furnace. Man feel so sorry for the folks have spent more than the furnace in repairs . When if you can get the door of the front of your furnace you can fix it. No more 8 deg cel nights. i have to find those reviews and at this fix . Thanks yes 200 dollars richer in 2017

Thanks for the video, mine ended up being a damaged small black pressure hose going back into the main assembly which is located all the way on the right. It looks like the hose comes out from the back of the fan, I could not see it and probably was stressed and forced at the factory and it eventually ripped at the clamp. Luckily the furnace came with a spare hose that has two barbed ends for coupling and I was able to cut it and fix the problem. I used your video to troubleshoot and make sure nothing was clogged.

Thank you for the video. On my Bryant Plus 90 unit i noticed that the black hose that is further up the line for the condensation trap appears not to be plugged into anything. It has a sticker on it that reads " UPFLOW or HORIZONTAL Left application must be plugged.". It looks like there is a square black box that it may have to be connected to. The sticker also reads " DOWNFLOW or HORIZONTAL RIGHT applications-Remove plug from tube end and attached to condensation trap." One section of the tubing is connected to the trap but the other side is not. This is on both of my units that are close to 14+ years old and really never had any major issue with. Should these tubes be connected somewhere? Thank you.

Thanks for this. I had a clogged trap. Didn't know until I replaced a broken black drain line with clear tubing. It was then that I saw water backing up. I then disconnected the switch tube and blew thru the large fitting of the trap. Could barely blow at first, then added water and blew hard. After a while, the blog broke free and the unit passed water freely.

I removed the hose and hardly any water came out. Took off the pressure switch and messed with it for awhile and tested it...seemed to be stuck. Made it work again and all is well.
