Fix leaking Caroma Stylus toilet for under $6. Stop that flushing sound!

Our toilet's cistern was leaking water into the bowl and the inlet valve wouldn't stop filling up. We thought that the inlet valve was faulty but it could be something much simpler.
For us, we just needed to replace the washer and no more flushing sound! The washer is either worn or has bubbles in it, causing the water to drip down to the bowl. This causes the inlet valve to keep filling up (flushing sound) because it detects that the cistern is not up to its optimum level of water yet.
Hopefully, this will save you a bundle of money as the solution is only about $6 at your local hardware store.

Perfect thank you! Fixed one issue I had! Don't forget to clean any bits of old rubber in the bowl from the old washer or it may still leak 😊 The other issue for anyone in a similar situation was my float switch (the white thing on the right) had come loose, but was as simple as re-inserting the prong into the hole on the left hand side 😊

Good video, the removal of the flush mechanism is not obvious until you know. You can also reverse the washer to get another life out of it. Mine is still going well after doing that. Happy New Year.

Right on target. Your video really helped me. Replaced silicone washer. All is well. First time for me so valve was a little tight removing. Applied a little soap on replacement washer and it went right back on. To test, put a little piece of toilet paper on back of toilet bowl up high, waited 15 minutes and it never got wet. - Thank you

So it turns out I bought the washer for the older cisterns 😶 Turns out removing the washer a flipping it over fixed the issue 😊 ... for how long, I cannot answer that. Will be making another trip to Bunnings to get the right washer at a later date 😉

The washer in the flushing unit usually lasts up to 5 years. My current issue is with the unit on the right, the Caroma Quietflow 2 Bottom Inlet Valve, which I have already replaced about 5 years ago. I thought the leak (hissing) was due to a worn seal in the Cap Assembly. After replacing that seal, the stopping mechanism failed entirely (component which relies on buoyancy). It's gonna be another trip and $30 to Bunnings (which is still cheaper to the RRP $47.53 listed from Caroma website).

Turns out there are 2 sizes that I know of, there is an older styles dial flush cistern and a newer one which is bigger than the old one, there maybe more \_0_/

Strangely I changed the washer but the water keeps leaking. I realised the water kept filling to the top... above the thin pipe on the left and flowing through that into the toilet. Is there a way to solve that?

Yes, pull the pipe up, If it's leaking around the rubber seal on that I used plumbers tape

You probably need to change the inlet valve. You can buy it from Bunnings. Very simple installation

You must twist it quite hard if it is your first time removing it. When i first tried twisting it almost feels like it will break but it pop right out.

@@tbperth My only guess is the twist is not hard enough and it is still stuck in the catcher at the bottom. Try twisting it to the furthers you can go and pull gently to lift it out. Otherwise the plumber might be your next option.

I had this problem, I twisted it back and forth to loosen it up, and mine went around a 1/4 turn, not the small amount that his moved.

I can’t get the washer off, it looks like it’s attached to the outlet in some way, there isn’t an inner circle to the existing washer. The cylinder is also enclosed, not open like his. It looks like the washer and attachments are clipped into the cylinder somehow. How can I remove it to replace it?

From your description of the mechanism, it sounds very different from the one shown in the video. You might have to look at a different video which is similar to your model type to figure it out.
