How to fix your depression?
Retired psychotherapist turned attachment specialist Adam Lane Smith discusses his years of treating depression, how male and female depression function differently, and how you can finally end the struggles you've dealt with for so long. If you or someone you know struggles with depression, this video is a must-watch exploration about emotional pain and how to relieve it for good.
This video is part of an ongoing series related to attachment.
It can be hard to tell when someone is depressed. If you're not crying on the floor or leaving society to live in a cave, people assume you're fine. You may even assume you're fine because you're "not that bad." Men who struggle with attachment feel they have no purpose in life, or they believe it's impossible to have a life of meaning. Women who struggle with attachment often feel lonely and disconnected from others, and even if they do have relationships they feel useless and like a burden. No one wants to feel pointless, useless, or unloved.
Depression isn't going away. It's getting worse. More people are on anti-depressants than ever before, and we still aren't getting better. Alternatives are needed to stem the suicide epidemic.
People with depression don't need to live with the pain. And they don't need emotion-focused therapy where they just process feelings all day without solutions. They need answers to the depression they live with every day. That's why Adam Lane Smith created this video, to guide people who've been left behind by a mental health system which focuses on drugs and talking instead of practical solutions to fix what's really wrong. There are solutions which can work, and Adam shows you how. Through healthy attachment, you can achieve things you never imagined. It all begins with attachment.

Just very much summed up my own current struggle along with someone who I recently split with who struggled with her own stuff. And I've been trying to do things in an insular lifestyle in a cold dark city with a job where I'm not interacting with anyone in the day, sitting alone at night working and miles away from my family who although not bad people are very poor at communication and gave me no direction. But whenever I connect with friends / find success in my side hustle I feel more on an even keel. And have started to connect properly again with my mother more which has also helped , let go of my anger towards her and now trying to get her early retirement understanding how hard bringing me up must have been for her

Realizing I decided at a young age after a funeral "I don't want anyone to cry when I die", and began to distance myself from people, to look at them clinically while avoiding detachment(while also having horribly broken attachment issues myself, of course), and as I got older to feel that rubicon of being alone but only saying "This is the road I've chosen" without any real idea of why this is somehow *better* than leaving behind people who loved me but unable to figure out how to change course. Suffice to say I've been binge-watching this series and it has given me MUCH to think about.

I’m glad you’re thinking. Challenging our lifelong beliefs is the first step. It’s also the hardest. Convincing someone there’s a better way is the toughest part of my job. Once you accept that, the battle is already half finished.

@@AttachmentAdam first of all I am very grateful for your work and I hope you will share with us your experience, so I am thankful. In the book, and from your clips I learn a lot about my toxicity. I believe that I am a fearless person, and every time I saw a person that can not cope with their fear, I will be honest, I was very judgmental. But, fun fact >))) through the stories, I find that I have fears and attachment issues. So, from the book, I learn a lot about how to really connect with people. And I really want people to read your book because it helps a lot.

@@AttachmentAdam No that is the amazing thing. Because people always tell you to 'focus' on something good etc.. but you cant its almost like you re just able to have negative feelings and only want to have negative feelings when you are in that mental state. This concept 'solved' that. After realizing that it lifted alot of weight/struggle (not saying I m not strugelling no more but now it is not 'hopless') I dont know if you get what I m trying to say xD I m not a native english speaker

What do you recommend to identify our attachment issues specifically? What do we do exactly to work on these ? I would also recommend looking into hormonal issues/testing and doing neuro adrenal testing as well before jumping into meds. Also consider other things like meditation and working out before meds as well.

When I add a guy in the social media I keep annoying him every day every minute and the person ignore me the whole time although he knows I'm interested in him. I started doing this when I was 13 now I'm 21 and I still suffer from this issue. Although the person is ugly 😭🤣 Some say I have OCD idk I'm afraid I'll marry a toxic man because this is what I attach to. Also I wasn't loved by my own parents

Why do we not see your formal training listed anywhere? I can't seem to find it. DO you have a PhD in Psychology?, MA in Social Work? MA in Psychology? Retired psychotherapist? Why? Personal choice, or did you lose your credentials.
@AttachmentAdam
@AttachmentAdam 2 жыл бұрын
MA in Psychology. 3 years of licensure apprenticing under 5 clinicians with 4 different license types. Fully licensed for years. Published 2 books on my specialty which clinicians across the US use for building treatment plans with patients. Gave seminars to healthcare professionals on my specialty. Voluntarily terminated psychotherapist license because a license bars you from practicing outside your state and I got so many international requests I couldn’t refuse anymore. Thanks for asking. 👍
