How do I know if the hearing element needs to be repaired,

I was able to replace the heating element (10082892) on my Kenmore DW (665.13193K902) without removing the dishwasher from the cabinet. It's much easier using a 3/4" deep well socket and a ratchet. Be sure to shut off power at the circuit breaker before proceeding. No need to shut off water or disconnect hoses. You will need good dexterity using your fingers to feel the tooth washer. The red wire connects to the right terminal and the white w/ red stripe connects to the left. Remember to finger tighten the long plastic nuts the use your wrench to tighten about 3/4 turn (not too much or you'll strip the threads). Total time about 30 minutes.
