Claudia Hernandez I always notice mine when I’m at the hair salon because I can see the back of my head with their double mirrors. I’m always horrified at how crazy it looks. I have not been able to wear my hair parted like I used to because of this problem. I only part it an inch in the front and keep checking the back of my hair with a hand mirror throughout the day. I have to use hair gel after washing and Paul Mitchell Freeze and Shine hair spray in the back of my hair plus a really fat curling iron. I will definitely try this method. Also problematic is thinning at the temples if I wear my hair back. I didn't realize so many of us have this problem. I used to have so much more hair. I also have been increasing my biotin supplement dose hoping that helps as well.

It's a whirl. Where your hair grows in a Swirl. Some people call it a cowlick. It is a real pain in the butt. I saw a video of a guy taking the ladies hair like you did, but he did a little back comb, sprayed it let it dry and then used a flat iron or curling iron on the teased hair. I tried it and it really helped to keep my hair from splitting. I am a lot older and have fought this my whole life. My husband says I have a bald spot! It's not a damn bald spot lol. (Dry shampoo and shower cap showers) because having to brush/comb it when it’s wet trying to find that perfect, magical “fix” is just too depressing. I will literally not go out or just put my hair back up in a messy bun. I have hair loss and hair damage now at my crown because of always wearing it up so it makes it even worse. Seeing this gives me hope. I’m gonna go wash my hair and try it out. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I’ve been doing some reading up on this and I’m pretty sure it is called a double crown. The hair grows in two different patterns and causes the gaps. I discovered mine about a year ago and I have been so self conscious of it ever since. I’m constantly touching where the split is to make sure it’s covered. I never wear it down anymore but even when I tie it up it still splits!! I think it looks even worse when it splits tied up so now I’m out of options. I thought it was something new that had started happening but I’ve since figured out that I always had it, just my hair was a lot thicker up until now so I never noticed. It is so thin these days it gets me down and I don’t know how to fix it.

I honestly thought that I was balding, too. I was pretty horrified. My hair is very thick from the neck down and it reaches to the back of my knees, but I didn't notice until a few months back that on the back of my head I have this cowlick or double crown that you mentioned. I ignored it, but decided not to anymore because I'm feeling self conscious. What I found is that you can "train" your hair growth pattern. The gist is that after drenching that area of your hair (ideally at night after showering), brush it/part it in the direction that you want it to be, clip it down and let it air-dry. After at least a week or two of doing this, your hair should get accustomed to growing in that new direction. I'm actually going to try this starting tomorrow night and I will document my results. Hopefully it will work.

Yikes. I end up putting it up when I don’t want to think about it but all that spraying dries it out as well and hampers growth. Saw Palmetto, in combo with vitamins and collagen seem to help slightly. I never thought I’d be obsessed over something. I’m 71. Sometimes I think I should go short but I’m not sure that would help.

omgggg this only recently happened to me a few months ago!!! it’s so annoying and makes me so self conscious bc i’ve never seen anyone else with it especially around my campus and i don’t wear my hair up so it’s such a struggle. it also hurts sometimes like it feels sore when i try to mess with it

im so sorry to hear that! have you spoken to a doctor or dermatologist? Mine turned out to be hair loss due to a vitamin d deficiency. I have a few videos on my channel with updates on the hairloss issue. Check them out to see if you have any similar symptoms!
@iwantmytrophy4 жыл бұрын
@@LayanBee OMG I did not know deficiency could cause cowlicks I'm so glad I read the comments because I also had low vitamin D last blood test and have had hair fall problems but I didn't realise that was related to the cowlick, I thought I only just noticed it! (P.S. maybe you should link the vids in description)

I have 3 of those on the back of my head (technical term is hair whorls, swirls or crowns). My grandma would call them remolinos (I probably spelled it wrong so don't judge me) and I usually fix it by spraying water on my hair and using a hair dryer to manipulate the pattern as I dry it again and that normally fixes it for me. Then I use hairspray to hold it in place.

I've struggled my whole life with the back part, I tried this method a few years ago without much success. I found it would only hold together for a short time before it split open again.

I've always had this, ever since I was a toddler! Having short hair hid it but whenever my hair gets past shoulder length it becomes very prominent. I've always just thought that even though I have thick hair I must be doing something to cause a bald spot there (despite there obviously being hair there).

Ugh I have this too! My hair just wants to be draped from that center point in all directions of my head haha. I have straight long hair that falls down smoothly, except for this annoying piece of hair on top of the cowlick that wants to go in the opposite direction and just stands up like a weirdo all day 😂😅. I have been backcombing it multiple times a day to keep it stuck to the rest, but I definitely need to buy some hairspray cause it won’t last long.

I have fine wavy/curly hair and I noticed the same thing happening at the right side of the back of my head. It would be very visible whenever I leaned over to pick up stuff Q_Q It made me very self conscious at work but it's nice to know that it's a normal thing and I'm not balding haha (I'm only a 24 yr old woman this would be shattering to me)

Great way to fix the dreaded crown part. But, does her hair color look entirely different in the back than it does in the front?
@laaser19853 жыл бұрын
Mind blown! I know this is old but I just found it!! Ps. My tip for getting the back really curled nice is I start from the back and work my way forward when curling my hair! I also do two layers, splitting around the circumference (?) Of my head
@lucyinthesky46823 жыл бұрын
I'm 43 and it just started happening to me. I would use a ton of mini bobby pins to hold it in place but then the split would separate the hair on the right side of my head. Most people think I'm in my early 30s but the bald spot started to make me feel so bad I'd have panic attacks getting ready to go out. I know it sound superficial but I take care of myself (diet and exercise) and my hair made me feel inadequate. I also have very long hair that's actually thick and really curly except that one part. I can't wait to try this.

Have you tried a dry shampoo or a texturizing spray to help hold the curls?

I’ve only just started to see a gap in my hair and a pink scalp showing through. I have very thick and wavy hair. My thoughts are it’s appeared because my layered hair has got longer so it hasn’t got the same lift it used to have and I’ve not coloured it during lockdown. I’m grey under my blonde. I’m wanting to keep my hair longer and try out my natural grey look too, which is why I You Tubed this problem. Glad to see it’s a common problem for people with thick hair and it’s not just because I’m going grey. Thanks for the video and tips.

Curling tip for you, have a large wide or full length mirror behind you at an angle so you can see the back of your head when you are curling the back, makes a huge difference for me anyway. Plus helps while you hide the cowlick. I have always worn my hair long and not that it is cut to an above the shoulder shag POP goes the cowlick... Super annoying so thanks for your trick. Appreciate it!
@anncarol43204 жыл бұрын
True its not a permanent fix, I mean how can you to that? I thought I'd made a bald patch from putting my hair in an updo with comb to cover the area! After noticing it yet again I bought a hat but cant exactly wear hats all the time so this idea is actually an expansion of what I've tried. I think by setting it with the flat iron would make it last through the day. I think drying off your hair in this area with some volumising product might also help it last

Happy to view how you addressed this problem...however, flat iron on hair sprayed hair, then tease it?.. seems to me the abuse will cause more harm! I say dampen with water, blow dr in desired directio then iron it close to part only and then spray

I have been experimenting and using a round brush to dry it the direction I want my hair to go also helps. Just do thin sections. It's probably harder to do on yourself than her method. But her method doesn't always work for me. Also brushes with the rubber tips seem to help...

I tried this and it worked, only thing is it only lasted about 3 hours!! And I was out and about, had to put my hair up to finish the day 😔, but I was wondering if I kept doing this would it in time be trained to stay ? But it could be just my hair???? I'll keep doing though, and thank you so much for sharing ❤️❤️❤️❤️

26 year old male with fine long hair here. I've got this kind of thing though it isn't as noticeable until I sleep on it. I can see it before I shower in the morning, but even with clean and dried hair it's still noticeable if I shine bright light on it. Worried it might be a sign of balding, but it might not be. Everyone I've asked says it's just my part and it's normal, that I've just got fine hair and that's making the scalp under my parting more noticeable, and I've got the feeling it might have become more visible since I went a few years letting my hair get really really oily and sleeping on it a day or two before washing it multiple times a week. So it's possible I've just damaged my hair somehow and I need to take better care of it. Really hoping it's not a sign of balding, not sure what my chances are since the men on my mom's side of the family didn't go bald, but the men on my dad's side all went bald except for my dad which is interesting. I could be wrong and I could be starting to show signs of balding, which is why when the whole social distancing thing is over and I can go out again I'm booking an appointment with a dermatologist to look into this. If it is something like that I'm going to do my best to stop it and make it look as good as possible if I can't.

waj9876 Hey please don’t despair. I very much doubt your3 going bald. I’m You tubing this problem because I’ve suddenly discovered it during lockdown. I’ve not had my hair cut for 16 weeks. Usually a 4 to 5 wk person. I’m female. I’ve got thick, layered (because it’s so thick) wavy hair and it’s usually a job to see my scalp. But I’ve just noticed a parting on the crown at the back of my head and I’m so paranoid about it. I feel like it’s an old lady bald spot because I’m also letting my hair go grey. But I know I’m not going bald and it’s just my hair parting on my crown, probably showing up because my hair has got longer and I need to find a way to deal with it. Don’t go wasting money on a dermatologist. See your hairdresser first and mention it.

Do you do this for when you style your hair straight? I always wear my hair straight cause that’s how it is naturally but it looks like I have a bald spot because of my part 😢
@LayanBee6 жыл бұрын
I do! Also try pinning your hair on the opposite side that it seems to be settling if that makes sense. Hair follicles can be trained to grow a certain way so I’ve been pinning my hair in a cross cross over the bald spot while I sleep to train it to go the other way
